Seriously tho, as a college student I see plenty of women at a healthy weight. In fact, I'd say the number of obese women is pretty small and fit women outnumber chubby women. So things ain't so bad in my peer group.

sizewise, yeah, that's about accurate. as you get toward the downtown, hip areas where I live people tend to be thinner but this is pretty close to on in point. most aren't that trendy or put together, though.

and NYC is nothing like the rest of the country. neither is LA or Miami for that matter. get back to me when you've been to Houston or ATL. Like anything else in the US, average weight and appearance varies massively by region but I've travelled the country several times and most women are closer to the pictures in the article than not.

I don't understand why we keep having posts complaining about women who are fat. Why this weird obsession, why this insistence on hating them, calling them names. Don't date people who you don't find attractive. What is the point of all this? I don't find overweight men attractive myself but I don't hate them.

The other night I went to meditation class at a local yoga studio I go to regularly. Most of the women were slim and attractive. If that is who men want to date, go where they are instead doing this montonous shitposting.

Where I live in the midwest, there are fatties like that everywhere. Coastal cities often attract richer, more educated, body conscious singles and thus skew on the skinny side. Come to middle america and it is a shitshow.

Most of those women are hovering around a 2. If she's an actual 5 or 6, they'll think they're an 8. She's a 7 or 8? Thinks she's a 10.

Onwards. Yea basically in middle america and the south where people have to spend more time commuting, and are working longer hours with lower wages, fast food is extremely common and makes up a good portion of people's diets. A lot of people where I live and am from are fat. Hell i was fucking chubby for a long time because food to me was ramen, soda, everything fried, and mcdonalds. This isn't an issue of fat people are gross this is an issue of food companies knowing full well the addictive potentials of sugar and fast food and trying to get children hooked on from a young age or get people to associate eating these kinds of foods with pleasure, with fun.

I mean can you blame a person who works 40+ hours a week, barely takes home enough to cover rent, has no reasonable savings that allow them to actually pursue a stable family life, lives hand to mouth, and is constantly berated by political elite and upper class for being a lazy loser for turning to cheap hamburgers to make them feel better?

I think you need to consider that average means taking into account all ages. The older you get, the fatter you tend to be. Buzzfeed just chose to use pictures of women under 30.

Just imagine how women feel :( Theres a higher % of overweight men than overweight women (75% vs 71%) and men tend to reach their highest weight younger than women (50 vs 65+). And of course, women hold their weight better (hips and boobs vs stomach).

In affluent and well educated areas people are as fit as people anywhere.

But drive an hour outside to Kousinfuck County and you'll see nothing but massive hamplanets rolling around on rascals.

the article seems intended to celebrate women who are larger and still enjoying life (the horror!) so it probably is a little skewed. i'd say the range of women shown are average, but not the distribution, from what i see. definitely nothing there that warrants the overreaction from OP, good grief. people exist that you're not attracted to, and some of them lead happy lives too. the world spins on.

That's fine, but my question is, why is it assumed that 'being attractive to men' is the main reason why women ought to eat well and exercise? If we care about the well-being of women, why don't we talk about cholesterol, strain on the knees, increased chance of a heart attack, and the free radicals with which these fattening foods and drinks are packed which cause a whole panoply of illnesses? Why don't we talk about how being unfit makes a potential pregnancy more dangerous?

It depends on the region. Rural areas have a far higher rate of obesity for both men and women.

A compilation of "average man" would look essentially the same.

The "average" weight of a population depends on region, SE status, and age. Those women would be considered heavy where I live in NY, no doubt. But they would be closer to "average" in the poorer parts of Tennessee, where I used to live. Also, people often put on weight with age. Women in their 50s and 60s are also included in those statistics, but the average 20 yo is going to be significantly slimmer.

Obesity is a socioeconomic issue. You won't find fatties in well heeled areas, but you'll be tripping over them in poorer areas.

Well let me put it this way:

If you work 2 jobs just to BARELY survive and then are going to school part time at the same time, cooking a healthy wholsome meal isn't going to be your priority.

In college, i didn't know many obese women. Now that I work, I do. And almost all of these women fit the same criteria:

poor husband + kids + working full time (one or more jobs) + living in an area where you can't walk outside safely at night after dinner.

Inb4 everyone gets all huffy. If your husband barely can support himself and you can barely support yourself and then you have kids, now you are stuck having to work full-time, leave the house at 7, come home at 6, and then be fully present for the kids from 6-9pm and clean until you have to go to bed like at 10. Add another job into the mix. Are you going to have time to break out the raw fruits and vegetables and chop up everything and juice everything to make a large salad, then cook? Or are you going to pop some crap in the oven and heat up some rice or something then maybe eat iceberg lettuce as your salad. Then after that, are you going to wash everything, go for a walk, etc or are you going to sit down even more?

I gained weight working full time at a desk job. Now I am on a starvation diet because I don't have time to exercise the way I used to in college. I used to walk 10 miles a day and now I walk 4-6. That's like 3-400 calories.

This is just one reason why I don't want kids unless I can be a SAHM and work part time.
