Not just that, I'm not convinced this was an accident. He was cheating on his wife, he was under the influence (in vino veritas), and he made no effort to get help after the fact. But because he could claim they liked "rough sex," he gets a reduced sentence.

[–]povofmeFDS Newbie 67 points68 points69 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wonder if they would give a woman who had choked someone but claimed they liked rough sex would get a reduced sentence as well 🤔

[–]otroniveI 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women don’t even get reduced sentence when they kill their abusers. 90% of women in a Florida prison for murder killed their abusers but self defence laws were made for men.

[–]CDVHSDVD 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He got scared, DON'T YOU REALIZE? The poor thing was terrified! Even more than his victims was /s

Seriously, fuck this guy. He should be used as an example to discourage consensual choking as a defence. He should ROT!

And this ladies is why we are against BDSM in this sub.

According to this article, this murderer claims that they've always had consentual rough sex, the post-mortem did not find signs of active or prolonged resistance, and now a woman is dead and there's no one to speak for her because she was one of the "undesired" in society and it's easy to explain away her death, because she has mental health issues and other "problems" that society can conveniently blame her death on, as if her destiny were to die in one way or another at a young age so why not this way. At least, according to the murderer, she "seemed to enjoy it" when they've done this in the past. It's so easy to spin this story about her and make the reader feel like it was an accident, there was nothing that anyone could do to help her and at least she didn't suffer.

The problem with this whole story is that none of it is in this woman's words. She is dead. She can no longer speak. I imagine that if she could talk to us from the beyond, she would say how sad she is to leave her children without a mother; how scared she was when this murderer was choking the air out of her lungs and she felt her life force departing her body; how she was desperate for something good in her life and thought she would find it through the validation of being wanted, even if it meant having "rough sex" with this married scrote who couldn't even be bothered to call the police right away when he found her unresponsive in bed next to him.

No, her side of the story will never be told. It will be suppressed like so many women's stories, because they're no longer there to tell it.

[–]AyemHerselfFDS Disciple 182 points183 points184 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Even if his side were true, it communicates that kinky women are acceptable targets for extreme violence. Killing a woman during "rough sex gone wrong" isn't as bad as killing a woman in any other circumstance.

[–]Unlikely-MarzipanRuthless Strategist 53 points54 points55 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It’s absolute BS. Even when consensual how come it’s mainly women who are violently assaulted and murdered during “kinky” sex. I’m sick of “sexologists” and certain relationship counsellors saying this stuff is ok and normal if consensual. No, it’s not. Any psychologist who is worth their weight in gold, knows that there is issues with control/ sadism/ anger towards women with men who like to do this, and 90% of the time, trauma in the woman’s history who says she likes it. And trauma can also come in the form of social conditioning.

[–]otroniveI 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And when men die, it’s usually self asphyxiation.

[–]pitiful_cherryFDS Newbie 57 points58 points59 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This could have been me. I once expressed curiosity about BDSM to a guy I was dating and he decided to spontaneously put me in a choke hold from behind on a later moment.

I thought I was dying and needed therapy for the ptsd this experience gave me. Even if you don’t die on the spot there is a chance that you get complications later on. Choking is not something to play around with!

[–]PhilodendronfanaticFDS Newbie 38 points39 points40 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No active or prolonged resistance could also mean she didn't want to provoke him so that the whole thing is over quicker, especially if she thought the alternative would have been more dangerous.

It reminds me of a case that happened during lockdown in the uk where a long time abusive husband killed his wife and the punishment was lower becuase he was used to abusing her and didn't expect it to kill her. These things disgust me.

[–]MuffcakelordFDS Disciple 160 points161 points162 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Even if she was alive to tell her story, noone would listen in court. Difference is; he gets 4 years for murder whereof he would get 0 days for rape without anyone dying

[–]BoogelyWoogely 29 points30 points31 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Holy shit, our system is so broken.

This is so devastating for her family, I feel like crying. You’ve also put into words why the police didn’t lock up my ex after I was raped, they told me in the eyes of the law I ‘consented’.

This sub is so eye opening

[–]MuffcakelordFDS Disciple 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If in the eyes of the law women cannot say no to sex and violence against women is considered sex, anything goes! In a system like that, women always give consent according to the law.

My greatest sympathies for having to have experienced the injustice firsthand, i hope you will be healthier and happier than ever in the time to come

[–]BoogelyWoogely 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Every time I see something like this on the news, I always think a massive shift is going to happen to the way things are done (like with the case of Sarah Everard) …and then it just doesn’t. People move on with their lives and forget about it, but somewhere there’s families mourning the loss of the murder victims💔

Thank you, honestly reading about things like this make me feel lucky to have made it out alive💚 Things are already so much happier😌

[–]Cheeofgoodbeer 23 points24 points25 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

FUCK.THIS.SHIT!!! With every cell in my body...with all of my breath (that I still get to have) Fuck this everloving fucking goddam fucking BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its time for the world to stop so women can jump off 😣

I hope he gets his fair share in jail. Men who enjoy these “kinks” are rapists and murderers.

[–]discoveringlibertyFDS Newbie 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Lets hope he doesn't petition to get sent to a female prison, a trend that is increasing in male sex offenders and murderers.

[–]raggedclaws_silentCsFDS Newbie 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How do they justify this?

[–]BbqchilifriesFDS Newbie 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It makes me think. My ex was a self.proclaimed kinkster. He liked to play with electrodes and rope play and some of the more taboo crap, but after we did it one time he decided he didn't want to do that with me because he was too afraid that he'd injure or hurt me on accident.

And I thought that was weird. Like a guy actually being interested in my safety felt abnormal.

I still don't think I have nor do I ever think I will process through the shit I put up with. It's been 7 months. And it still is as fresh as if it were yesterday..

[–]arnezuaraFDS Apprentice 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am sorry to hear that he’s put you through so much trauma. Unfortunately, most of us have had the misfortune of getting into relationships with NV/LV men like your ex.

We made out alive, unlike so many of our fellow women (may they Rest In Peace). The best we can do right now is learn, take the time necessary to heal, and leave at the first sign of disrespect, inconsistency, and other red flags.

[–]lilac-hiraethFDS Newbie 142 points143 points144 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What an absolute piece of shit! This is why we don’t do kink and casual sex, ladies! No pathetic porn sick dick is worth your life.

[–]lansburysodaFDS Newbie 44 points45 points46 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So he murdered her and had a politically correct excuse and got away with it. Disgusting what this world is coming to for women. I’m glad I’m abstinent.

[–]ProtoetypeFDS Newbie 40 points41 points42 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And how did they know he wasn't raping her again?

[–]Unlikely-MarzipanRuthless Strategist 39 points40 points41 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We are literally encouraging a generation of narcissistic psychopaths. Too many men go straight for the rough bdsm, the choking, slapping, suffocation, on the rise because of porn. There’s this saying that “they do it because they think women like it, because they do in porn.” - no. I don’t believe that for a second. That’s gaslighting and letting these men off the hook! They do it because THEY have desensitised their brain to levels where they enjoy hurting women during sex - sadism. Part of the dark triad. And these men don’t care when a woman says no, or even really allow her to say no (sorry, but um, a woman’s reaction to being choked by not saying “stop” doesn’t mean she likes it - she could very well be terrified! I know I have been in that situation!)

I have even removed a guy’s hand multiple times and he would put it back. My gfs said “well maybe he thinks that’s part of the game.” - no. He didn’t think that. He just didn’t give a fuck until I finally had to guts to tell him to never do it again after I was bruised and couldn’t breathe properly the next day.

This is a terrifying story.

Counsellors have told me time and time again that a man who strangles his partner (yes. Even during sex) is 7 times more likely to kill her. There’s research on it, which I’ll find another time.

I’m sick of us letting men off with their excuses they thought “women liked it” or “she didn’t tell me to stop” - she was terrified and couldn’t breathe you dickhead! OR maybe she did, but he’s not around to tell the story now is she. And the reason they think women like it (playing devils advocate here, if they do)... it’s Because they cannot empathise with women, they are then as objects - which is exactly what narcissists see their victims as.

I’m fcking furious.

I bet he has no guilt. No empathy. Typical psychopath. When is this BS going to stop.

[–]TechnusgirlFDS Newbie 115 points116 points117 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Only 4 years for killing someone!? He should be in there for life!

[–]Cheeofgoodbeer 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh but you see, it's only a mere woman...and sexy sex was involved...so really we should all be feeling sorry for that frying pan in the face Ed Norton look a like POS... I mean, isn't HE the real injured party here? Sorry I'm just pissed anymore at this fuckery!!!!

[–]bookworm1896FDS Newbie 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And don't you understand she liked rough sex, so he coild do whatever he wants. /s

[–]ciciplumFDS Newbie 30 points31 points32 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

He got in the car after 24 beers, too. Endangering everyone on the road. Absolute insanity.

[–]honeybadgerattitudeFDS Newbie 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I noticed that but the article is more concerned with any perceived faults the victim had! It’s a shame because if he’s have killed her by hitting her with his car while drunk, he’d probably have been given a longer sentence

[–]tzijoFDS Newbie 81 points82 points83 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wonder how many men would consent to getting the life choked out of them especially by another man.

[–]Unlikely-MarzipanRuthless Strategist 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Also, brain damage can occur from just a few minutes of choking. I had an ex who choked me to the point of bruising and he laughed and said “ooops” when I told him to never do it again. Then preceded to gaslight me with a stupid smirk on his face saying I ask him to do it. He was adamant I did. No I fcking did not!!! Anyway, after speaking with counsellors, they advised usually they get women to get medical attention if they’ve been choked to the point of bruising, because brain damage can occur so quickly.

[–]HoneyBouquetFDS Apprentice 60 points61 points62 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A friend of mine (used to be a pickme when she was younger) had a guy strangle her for 10 seconds during intercourse without discussing it beforehand or asking for consent.

She was terrified after and dumped him. All he told her was he liked it "rough". She is doing much better but she dodged a huge bullet.

That man will end up killing a woman someday.

[–]ShittyPianistFDS Newbie 31 points32 points33 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've had a similar thing happen. This is another stupid thing that boys have picked up from porn.

Luckily, I was still competing in jiujitsu and was really strong at the time and knew I could break the guys arms if I really felt like it. And doubly luckily, I think the guy knew that and was considerate when I blurted out, "what are you doing?" I was rather pissed at him, tho with a touch of "why would you even think that was a good idea?"

It amazes me that chokes have become a thing during sex.

There are two major arteries that run along your neck near your windpipe. If anything blocks the blood supply to your brain (aka like these arteries getting enough pressure applied to them during a choke), you can knock someone out. At the end of the day tho, if you block the bloodflow to someone's brain long enough, you will give them a stroke - and the timeframe to kill someone like this is not nearly as long as you'd think. You can find tons of articles like this - people die after 20 or 30 seconds in a chokehold.

When you see MMA fighters and whatnot do these chokes, they're trained in both the application and the defense. They're familiar with what it feels like to lose consciousness, and when to stop the fight. They're familiar with signs of lost consciousness so they don't straight up murder their opponent. Hell, they're still dangerous in that setting, honestly.

And despite all of that, somehow porn has made men think, "oh, I should just strangle my partner during sex" like that's not at all risking a stroke. A literal stroke. Like the one that killed one of your elderly family members. Because cutting off the bloodflow to your brain is literally what causes a fucking stroke at any age.

So if a man likes being stabbed during sex we can just do it?

Look at how much time women who have actual evidence of years of being abused get vs this piece of shit.

Laws are made by men, for men.

This is why we need more women in law enforcement and government.

[–]catlady4uFDS Newbie 84 points85 points86 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hopefully a big, burly lifer will choke this POS to death during sex in jail.

[–]PhilodendronfanaticFDS Newbie 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's one thing I always wonder when reading about incidents like this: is there any proof she even consented to this?

Edit: I don't mean to say you can, I mean because it's often used as an argument to reduce sentencing.

I don't think choking is justifiable in any way. It shouldn't be done. I'm also against BDSM. But we need to acknowledge that there's a huge amount of pressure for younger women to be sexually experimental or up for trying anything to 'see if you like it' or whatever.

The term 'kink' could mean anything from 'a bit of gentle spanking' which isn't life-threatening in any way all the way to things you'd see in a slasher film.

I wonder if a woman describing herself as kinky online or towards friends is automatically taken as consent to being strangled and therefore it becomes a tragic accident in the eyes of the prosecutors instead of murder.

I wonder how often a young woman met up with a guy and once she was in a vulnerable position did a whole host of things she never consented to and no-one believed her because she thought she was kinky for, I don't know, enjoying a bit or roleplay or something and told people that so as to not seem prude.

Let's face it 4 years is at the lower end of the 2-10 and sometimes life people get for manslaughter. So many cases like this seem to result in little punishment for the perpetrators and I wonder how much of that is because a woman described herself as kinky without going into specifics and that was taken as her consenting to being strangled.

[–]asupernova91FDS Newbie 53 points54 points55 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Note how the use a picture of him in tears, looking vulnerable and scared. Fuck that. He’s not the victim here.

He looks pathetic. Hope he suffers everyday until he dies

[–]Equal-Ear2312FDS Apprentice 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

look at his face.

it's the Pikachu face when the judge tells him he's gonna go to jail.

not a tear shed for the life he took.

he's only sowwy he got caught.

this:

“It seems that strangling a woman to death is still viewed in law as an unfortunate accident, rather than terrible serious violence,” said a spokeswoman from We Can’t Consent To This, which campaigns against the use of “rough sex” defences in cases involving violence against women and girls.

&nThis:

Earlier this year the government clarified the law to restate the broad legal principle “that a person cannot consent to actual bodily harm or to other more serious injury or, by extension, to their own death”.

he used the rough sex that got too far trope.... awwww.... 4 years in prison is not enough!

not only is he utter LVM but he also cheating scum. he is married to another woman and had been having "rough" sex with the woman he choked to death for 3 years, knowing she was a vulnerable individual. She lived alone and her kids stayed with the father. She was known to have poor physical and mental health. And here come this monster...

[–]daisy_0720FDS Disciple 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Please can we stop calling it choking.

It is strangulation.

It is attempted murder.

[–]One_Bat_2525FDS Newbie[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are correct. I should’ve titled it “Four years for strangling her during sex” because that is what the POS did.

[–]Hot_Procedure1648 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

What a vile POS, needless to say I'm going celibate until they fix these laws. That would deter these pathetic toe rags (Plentiful in the UK) from even thinking about shit like this. Because what's stopping these men from crying but my peepee and BDSM, when the women clearly never consented to be degraded by this loser? Usually it's welfare men that's the worse offenders, because the government funds their lifestyle they think they're untouchable by the law and think they can act like a nuisance . Seriously I've heard one of these men's exes yell at them for chasing minors...(?) To think this is what what taxes go towards, they aren't even human at this point.

[–]janestnycrk4FDS Newbie 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And if the woman would have had a chance to defend her self, she would have gotten 30 years. The justice system is a joke.

[–]Jo_Jo-5 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's incredibly heartbreaking. 4yrs is not even close to being long enough for taking a life. Things regarding sentencing needs to change

[–]muiegarda1FDS Newbie 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Boo hoo, look at him crying, let me play you a song on the world's smallest violin. Poor scrote 😭
