I don't like the men show affection in different ways cliché because I taking the extra effort to be thoughtful for someone in ways that you may not care for is like the bare minimum of empathy. When you don't meet someone at their level what your saying is that your needs and wants are more important and so your going to show you care in whatever is convenient for you. Convenience isn't compassion.

This reminds me of advice I once heard toward men about their wives not feeling affectionate:

When a wife isn’t affectionate any more husbands have to be careful not to put all the fault on her. It’s very possible that they’ve unintentionally contributed to her loss of interest.

Common explanations I hear from women as to why they’re not interested in their partner, even sexually (while still liking and wanting to have sex), can be his:

Nagging
Demeaning comments and criticisms
Never being able to please him
lack of attentiveness to his appearance

Attraction and physical affection go hand in hand, and in order to maintain that affection both partners need to care enough to maintain themselves and their appearance. It’s also possible that’s she’s showing you affection in ways you just don’t recognize.
