Everyone here is missing the mark. The simple answer is that his rise to fame happened before the cultural shift of metoo. You won't see any Dan's become popular and escape criticism today or going forward. But anyone who was a celebrity before 2017 or so gets a pass.

People grossly overestimate the power of #metoo. There have been several celebrities who've been #metooed and nothing happened to most of them aside from a bit of media coverage.

When a #metooed celebrity goes down that's usually because they're accussed of a serious form of harassement and have several women offering consistent accounts about the fact, or because there is enough evidence to take the case to trial.

Dan Bilzerian has been criticized many times by the media and also accused of mistreating women so I'm not sure he's immune to criticism as you say.

I'm looked at news coverage on the Jack Ma sex joke incident. I don't see a crazy amount of criticism. Billionaires seem to be more criticized for being billionaires than their sex lives.

Probably because you know what you’re getting with him. He pays women to pose in his photos and I’m sure pays some of them as escorts. And when your whole persona is like that, nobody is surprised. It’s not like he really has a wholesome image to cancel in the first place, so if he’s just doing what was agreed upon, he’s not going to get “in trouble.”

Now I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if one day we find out he’s a real creep who was involved with underage kids or non-consensual activities. Seems most rich guys eventually start thinking they can get away with that shit.

But as long as he’s not, it seems that Dan is proof that men don’t in fact get “me tooed” just for “being men” or some shit like I often hear claimed. No, men get “me tooed” for being rapists and harassers. It’s not something that happens by accident or that you have to worry about if you’re not doing that shit. And in Jack Ma’s case, I would guess people just feel like he’s being inappropriate for someone in his position. Which tbh he is. Nobody’s trying to get him arrested ya know.

MeToo isn’t a take down of men who have a lot of sexual partners. It’s a take down of men who have abused their power in workplace settings to coerce sex or outright commit sexual assault.

Bilzerian invites girls to his mansion parties and they have sex (and he possibly pays them or gifts them). Very different.

I didn’t hear about this Jack Ma incident but Jack Ma is a CEO of a large public company. The standards of acceptable conduct are very narrow when people have billions of dollars on the line.

The above being said, you are partly on to something. When one advertises themselves as “this is who I am, I have a lot of casual sex” society is more accepting vs. A guy who pretends to be asexual or monogamous and is revealed to be a sex pest. However the fact remains that merely having a lot of casual sex with people In your social life doesn’t qualify you to be MeToo’d

Dan Blizerian is a rich and attractive guy who is probably fun to be around and people feel comfortable around. Sure, I guess people who are salty they cannot have the same life might think he’s a “bad dude”, but we don’t even know what it’s like to party with him, how generous he may be with his drugs, etc. For all we know he could be the best host, guest, or client.

If you look at the people who (successfully) got cancelled, it’s the one who swam adjacent to woke / SJW shit in the first place.

Al Franken, Louis CK, Weinstein were all identified with liberal causes, so when the accusations of being inappropriate (or worse) with women came out, they had to go because that is very off brand for them.

Contrast this with Trump who likely for away with what all 3 of those men did, and possibly worse.

Take somebody like Andy Dick (another comedian) who had similar accusations (or worse than Louis CK and barely anybody blinked.

He got away with it because it was very “on brand” for him anyway. Everybody knew he was a sleaze and he basically cultivated that image to an extent.

Why? Partially because he’s not as famous as Louis but also his whole persona was that of a pervy douchebag.

Bottom line: People on the right get canceled for shit like hookers and blow or being secretly gay while people on the left get cancelled for saying / doing something vaguely racist or sexist.
