So before any of you say the pathetic straw man argument that I’m “forcing” people to have certain preferences, I’m not. My title even says you’re entitled to your preferences even if it means you’d only date some she hulk looking chick or whatever.

Lots of preferences have to do with just not being attracted to a certain trait or being incompatible with certain people. That’s fine. But there’s no denying that some preferences have to do with less innocent things like bigotry, and while you’re entitled to having preferences for such reasons, I’m going to want to know so I can avoid dating you.

Here’s an example based off a true story. Imagine you’re a short man. A girl you’re currently dating tends to prefer dating taller guys but likes you enough to give you a chance. You don’t think much of it. However, a couple dates later she admits she doesn’t like being seen with you in public because of how short you are. How are you not supposed to question wether or not their preference has to do with bigotry? They literally don’t want to be seen with you in public for no better reason than your height!

Someone with racist beliefs isn’t going to date certain races even if they are attracted to them. Someone with homophobic beliefs isn’t going to date someone of their own gender even if they literally are closeted gays. Saying I’m just forcing people to change their preferences because I say that is just ignorance. If I’m dating you, it’s important I know why you have these preferences so I know I’m with someone who doesn’t hate on any groups of people.

Not sorry.
