No, I'd expect her to save herself (and the kids) while I fight the attacker.

If my wife/gf has access to a gun or a bat she would most probably use them. I would not expect it but life experience has taught me women are as ferocious as men when defending those they love from mortal danger.

No. I know she is capable of it and if she helped me I would probably be grateful, but it would be more of a surprise. I don't take it that protecting us by fighting and putting ourselves at risk is her role. It's my role.

Fighting always means the risk of getting hurt/dying or hurting/killing someone. Anyone entering into a physical confrontation should be prepared to kill and die. My preference is for the wife to stay out of harm as much as possible so that if something bad happens she can take care of the kids or me if I get hurt. Also, I'm probably more comfortable with the idea of me being hurt in such a situation than her being hurt.

But of course, if she herself evaluates the situation, that she wants to enter it and fight and help me, that's great. I just don't expect it from her.

Its not expected.

While I'm lying on the floor trying to get out of a situation I'm not thinking "its ok my GF will help" I'm trying to figure out how to get out of the situation.

If she so happens to bonk the guy on the head and helps me get out of that situation then great but its not expected.

Side note, any man who steps out of a car after an accident and isn't weary that the other guy could be hostile to the point he starts swinging needs to have a word with himself.

This is why I advocate men to always carry at least a gerber/multitool on them. A quick helpful tool when you need it and a knife when someone is trying to threaten you

If her family is in danger (anyone) you would probably need to hold my wife back and she’s not a big person. As it stands, I’m a powerlifter with surgery scars and tattoos. Looking like someone who is ready to drop a refrigerator on you if you really want to start shit tends to keep people from wanting to see what their face looks like after a fight the next day. And I haven’t ever had to do anything ever.

Put on 30-60 pounds thru lifting and look like a dude who lifts and people tend not to want to do shit.

No. I wouldn’t expect anything. I know I’m simply a resource to be exploited. If I’m being beaten, my value is pretty much 0 and thus the relationship is effectively over.

Plus, if a guy’s already wailing on me with fists, the last thing I need is her handing him a baseball bat with a weak swing from her yoga arms.

In your situation yes but if it places the women in danger no. At the end of the day I think it's the responsibility of the man to be the protector and men would want to reduce the harm his significant other is in. Now this isn't a hard rule but if someone's getting shot its going to be me. You add a child to the scenario and to quote Ryan Reynolds I will use you as a human meet shield to protect the child.

I'd guess some women will join in, many will freeze, many will just be vocal. Some men will do the same, it's just going to be more common for women to do and less common for men. We have a shit ton of nature and nurture that dictates these things.

Look, when we fight, and I mean actually fight, we don't think. Adrenaline is pumping, everything is muscle memory. Even if she's not directly fighting, there will be no coherent thought about it. You go for it or you don't. And that's fine.

The only thing you can do about it is to prepare beforehand if you're worried about it, then it's up to your brain and yourself to evaluate.

Now, what I can say about me, is that if I'm going to loose to some fuck like that, he better be prepared to not come unscathed out of it. I'll bite off part of anything I can get to if I need to.

Generally speaking, No i would not expect my wife to help me in a life threatening physical confrontation. For the most part because she would be relatively ineffective and would have a higher risk of being a distraction and getting herself hurt and or getting me or both of us hurt. There are rare instances in which i would expect her help. She is not my equal in this regard.

In the situation you described I would NOT expect my wife to help me fight a crazed man, she could lock the doors, call the police or sometimes i let her carry my gun, so she could threaten him that way? Maybe. But generally if someone is crazy enough to start swinging on a random man on the street he would likely hit a woman. I would much rather myself get beat up than her or both of us. The very thought of her getting hurt physically makes me physically sick to my stomach, and the thought of another man hurting her gives me almost incalculable levels of rage.

I’ve been in more than one situation, where my expectation of her was to stay on my 6 while I clear the way, other confrontations where yes I just wanted her out of the way. Mind you I have several years of tactical training as well as fight training, and de-escalation

Its a highly specific situation and most fights dont happen that way.

In any real world scenario id prefer her to stay back and not get in the way.

9/10 times i saw a woman interfere in a fight she made the situation worse.
