News: Women do this bad thing more: Proof of discrimination against women.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 202 points203 points204 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

And if it were the other way around it would be proof women are forced to be more responsible with their money because wage gap.

[–]King_Joffreys_Tits 51 points52 points53 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

My car insurance is higher than my sisters literally only because I’m a guy. That just means women are more responsible right?

[–]MidWestMind 53 points54 points55 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

There was a canadian on this sub last year that changed his sex to female legally to save 3k/year on insurance.

[–]thatonemanboi 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

no joke?

[–]MidWestMind 48 points49 points50 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nope, he posted proof. It was about $200 to have it legally changed.

It all started with a call to the insurance company and finding out how much cheaper if he was a she. Since in Canada you can easily legally changing your sex (with no surgery or pills to take) he did so. He will legally change to male in a few years. The dude is like 18-20, so young enough and daring to do so.

Brilliant. You've found it, the answer.

Guys. We all need to get the forms, and every last man change our gender to female.

Feminist will have no one left to hate, and their heads will explode.

Men paying higher car insurance for more fatal accidents is just proof that they're dummies though.

[–]goldmedalflower 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"Yes, but men cost more to insure". Funny how that argument never applies to health insurance (2 out of every 3 healthcare dollars are spent on women), only car and life insurance. You know, cause of equality

[–]Okymyo 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was specifically outlawed (for women). It is illegal to charge women more for healthcare than you'd charge men.

But perfectly legal to charge men more than you'd charge women, in lots of other scenarios.

[–]Ody_ssey 452 points453 points454 points 6 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

When will they hold women accountable of their actions?

[–]davilla818 162 points163 points164 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Never it will always be our fault no matter what it will always end up she done this cause he did that or wouldnt do this.

[–]bklee83 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup. This exactly. A few years ago I walked in on my fiance fuking some guy on the floor of my apt, and she told me it was my fault she was fuking him because I wasnt giving her something she needed.....Ok so if thats the case either leave or first have the conversation in order to fix the problem and if you still cant resolve it then leave before cheating....but instead it was just my fault because Im a male and if I had been the one cheating then I would just be a pig who wants more than one woman......mkay

[–]dovakin123489 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

They’re more just neutral. They do a required service and they do it well enough but we don’t quite like them

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

The whole crashing the economy and getting bailed out part is a big reason we should all hate banks.

[–]dovakin123489 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Wasn’t that like a long time ago? Forgive my ignorance but I’m on r/teenagers I don’t deal with banks yet.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The last time was ten years ago but nothing in terms of oversight or prosecution of the responsible parties was ever done about it. Something similar will happen again in the not too distant future and again the taxpayers will have to foot the bill for billionaires to play around with people's money and livelihoods. Watch The Big Short for a better analysis than I'm capable of, it's educational and entertaining, albeit depressing.

EDIT: Heres the lowdown from someone who can word it better than I can with sources. https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/sorry-hillary-you-and-bill-not-tax-cuts-caused-the-financial-crisis/

Here's another source if you're of the more liberal persuasion.

https://www.cnbc.com/2016/05/28/are-the-clintons-the-real-housing-crash-villains.html

No, this is why you're supposed to hate Democrats. Banks didn't want to give out the bad loans. Bill Clintons presidential policies and other Democrats, including Obama when he was a lawyer, threatened banks with lawsuits and fines if they didn't start passing out the sub prime loans. They gave out those loans under duress because they knew what would happen.

10 years later and SURPRISE! All these people are upside down on their homes and getting foreclosed on.

Edit2: Another fun fact, for those that insist on calling Trump an idiot, he also knew what the effects of this would be and predicted it in 2006, and later on used this prediction to make a shit load of money by building a cash reserve and scooping up properties when the market crashed. He may do some really dumb shit and be a complete ass clown on twitter but he's definitely not stupid.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Ok comrade settle down. You care to give any citations on these claims? There were also 8 years of Bush presidency between the Dems which also happens to be when the crash took place. Why didn't he fix this highly illegal activity and save our economy? What was their purpose in forcing banks to give these illegal loans? What's the endgame? What kinds of fines would these upstanding financial institutions be charged with for not complying with some random lawyers' request to do said illegal activities? I'm hoping I'm wrong here and you can enlighten me to these fascinating goings on but in the meantime I think it's safe to say you're completely full of shit. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't like either of the fellows you mentioned so don't pull the party card.

He isn't blaming women in his comment, he's saying that the ideologues don't want to hold women accountable.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The question is, who will hold then accountable? Men won’t because they don’t wanna be sexist

[–][deleted] 157 points158 points159 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

ever notice how much women complain about things that are 100% within their control to change?

Pink razors cost more. Solution: buy black/blue razors
Womens pants don't have pockets. Solution: buy pants with pockets.
Heeled shoes make their feet hurt. Solution: wear comfortable shoes
Toilet seat left up. Solution: put toilet seat down.
Manspreading. Solution: Say "excuse me" to manspreader

I wish the biggest problems I encounter every day were this trivial.

[–]snoozeflu 128 points129 points130 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Umm, you are mansplaining all of this and that is problematic.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 60 points61 points62 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

you don't know the half of it...I'm manspreading like a motherfucker too.

[–]MrTyko 17 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If a man has his legs removed (for whatever reason), does he ever stop manspreading? Or does he just manspread at increasingly large distances as he moves farther and farther away from the removed legs?

[–]that-guy-with-art 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Please stop giving me an existential crisis

[–]Historybuffman 79 points80 points81 points 6 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

No joke, if you talk to them about a lot of these things, like asking why don't they take action (like buying clothing with pockets/comfortable shoes) their excuse will often be something along the lines of "Well, SOCIETY expects us to do this!"

It is never their fault. They are a victim of everyone. Literally, I mean that is what society is, everyone in a given area. "Oh no, we have to do exactly as everyone expects or (gasp) they won't LIKE ME!"

There is always going to be people that don't like you or won't approve of what you wear/do/say. Tell them to suck your ass and walk away.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 63 points64 points65 points 6 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

the really ironic part (ok, not irony...I know) is when they say "society" they're really talking about other women. Men don't give a rat fuck if your pants have pocket lines or not, or if you're wearing Sketchers instead of Saint Laurent pumps (hell, I had to google "what's a fancy womens shoe brand").

this is all shit women do to impress other women, but they're just self aware enough of how pathetic it is that they blame men for it.

[–]TheBelowIsFalse 27 points28 points29 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. They blame men for these expectations, but in reality, they all impose this bullshit on themselves/each other.

Guys are clueless, most of us don’t even know our pant size, let alone notice your fucking pocket lines.

[–]azazelcrowley 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Straight up there's a study that shows men don't enforce these norms if it's just men around. Women enforce them all the time no matter who they are with. Men only bother to enforce the norms sometimes if there's a woman around.

I think that suggests that men are only pretending to care because otherwise women will try and make them care. That study also reveals how utterly pointless womens spaces are, but suggests mens spaces have utility.

[–]summonblood 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

[–]McGauth925 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sorry, I don't think you're out to demean men. But, I don't think men are clueless. It's one of the common characterizations of men. Our focus is elsewhere. What we focus on, we're not clueless about. But, men are often ridiculed because our focus is different from that of women, by women - you know, those women who have so much to say about misogyny.

[–]goldmedalflower 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

they blame men for it

Much like how straight men have never endorsed the anorexic look of the fashion industry yet of course men are to blame

[–]McGauth925 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Men have become the all-purpose scapegoat for women. Every problem that women face is seen as being somehow caused by or. at the very least, exacerbated by men. That viewpoint is inculcated into women by a general female culture that endlessly looks to find evidence and examples to prove that point. Anyone who questions it is a misogynist, or a victim of internalized misogyny. This is female group think that they've worked endlessly to convert to a general cultural group think.

Again, I think the most widespread and pervasive cause for misogyny is the past 50 years of misandry. It's obvious; tell any group over and over and over, ad infinitum, that they're what's wrong with the world, and that group will grow to dislike yours. Suggest that to most women, and watch the shocked look on their faces. Cue the tried-and-true denial spiel about whining misogynists who've had their widdle feewings hurt.

[–]xero-wing 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

What is this internalised misogyny??

[–]McGauth925 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'd suggest doing a search on that to get a clearer idea. My understanding is, a woman who tends to agree with male viewpoints, and maybe especially MRA viewpoints over those of self-avowed feminists' viewpoints is seen as showing internalized misogyny.

[–]xero-wing 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Thanks I’ll look into it it sounds like another way of defaming a person because they don’t agree with the person/ blame men.

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, in the end, it means that the people who don't agree are brainwashed.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

poor women have real problems to complain about.

[–]Diesel-66 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Even more so when women control fashion and are the ones that would use social pressure against you.

[–]PitaJ 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well they will rightly point out the high fashion designers at mostly men, but it's not really important.

[–]tallwheel 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True, but those men are just designing clothes that they think women will buy. Women could always, y'know, choose not to buy them if they don't like them.

[–]McGauth925 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And, again, women continually tell us they dress for other women. It's other women that they need to change. Again, they do that by scapegoating males. We are very useful that way. Nothing sexist about that, because only men can be sexist. Everybody knows that. Part of the reason everybody knows that is because they never stop interpreting things in terms of sexism and misogyny. The fact that women pay higher fees is more evidence of that sexism and misogyny. Pointing out that women choose how to spend their money the same way that men do, that men in the same income group pay lower fees is seen as reactionary misogyny. It's circular reasoning on a wide scale.

[–]Aesthetys45 points 6 years ago [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

That NYT article saying that it’s men’s fault that some women are scared to poop in public restrooms—Solution: stop being neurotic about pooping in public restrooms.

yeah, like men are just ecstatic about pooping in a NYC public restroom.

[–]ariolander 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am surprised you could find a public restroom in NYC. Most places didn't have one, even if they did it's not often to public, outside if Starbucks it was hard to know if you could find a toilet for even customer use. I am convinced the reason NYC smells like piss, is the lack of public restrooms.

You actually made me laugh out loud reading this.

Thank you my friend. You're totally right. It's ridiculous.

[–]summonblood 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What’s rather interesting is that by taking this approach, it disempowers women from taking personal action. It further promotes the idea that women cant have their problems solved unless society at large steps in to solve it for them.

This would imply that women need community support before taking action, which is counter to feminist narratives about personal empowerment and independence.

I also find it rather ironic that current feminist rhetoric about tackling men’s issues advocates increased reliance on community support - opening up and asking for help - yet are reluctant to make a space for men’s issues that are actively seeking community support.

Heeled shoes make their feet hurt. Solution: wear comfortable shoes

I always wondered why they do that. LOL.

[–]elcheapo17 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As my ex said, style over comfort!

[–]McGauth925 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Women continually tell us that they dress for other women. So, it's other women they need to talk to about those uncomfortable shoes. When they do, though, they put it in terms of demeaning male expectations. One of the functions of any opposing group is to be able to blame them for everything our group doesn't like about life.

Arnold - you know, THE Arnold, said about half the women he ran into were impressed, with the other half horrified. He used to casually give out with a flex to enhance the effect on those who were horrified.

We he only one I can argue is the pants. Men’s pants do not fit at the waist the same way women’s do. I wear men’s pants for work and can’t stand it, I’d never wear them personally.

Though when I do wear “women’s jeans” I usually have a purse or just hold my phone in my hand like a loser. And those jeans have decent back pockets, just shit front ones. Designers could easily add deeper pockets, I got a pair from express I swear we’re made wrong because I can fit my whole hand in my front pocket!

Hey women used to pay more than men for health insurance (because they use it more and live longer). That is now illegal.

Men are still charged more for car insurance though. 100% legal to do that.

This along the same lines as the feminists screaming about certain products being more expensive, then insisting that they only buy the expensive product when cheaper alternatives are available for purchase by anyone.

Best example is women's razors.

Smoother blade, larger and more volumous "soothing strip", but yeah, so unfair that they cost more.

Feminists have a real issue with missing details that perfectly justify differences in financial issues. It's almost like they're deliberately being manipulative to work things to their favour. :/

Not popular, probably, but we could do away with bank charges in general. Fining people for lacking money is psychopathic, and it's not like we have a choice in using a bank or having enough money.

[–]chrisname 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Charges for having a low (but still positive) balance should be illegal, but are you suggesting banning overdraft fees? Because then banks would either stop overdrafts or close people's accounts. Otherwise they would basically be giving people loans for free.

Edit: some good points in the responses. Too lazy to reply individually, sorry.

[–]somellama 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i'm ok with the theory of overdraft fees, but the way some banks game it in their favor is sickening, i mean i'm poor enough already, but you are going to charge all of my incoming debts first, then calculate overdraft fees, then post the deposit when they all happen on the same day? that's fucked up.

sometimes the deposit is held a day while the debt is posted immediately.. anything to tip you over the line and get that fee... this is actually where most profit comes from next to interest on loans.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had a credit union where if I tried to purchase something over my balance it would just deny the charge at the counter, no overdraft for me and no loan from them. Win-win for both parties. Don't know why this can't become law for all banks.

[–]DesperateForADwarf 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem is when banks purposefully organize and rearrange your credits/debits in order to hit you with multiple overdraft fees at once. Say, if you have $3.00 in your account and make a $50.00 purchase that causes your account to overdraft. Well, they'll just take the six smaller purchases from yesterday that are still pending, and apply them after the $50.00 charge that puts you into only being slightly overdrafted.

Bam, six overdraft fees due to their re-arranging of your transactions, which they are under no legal obligation to post and calculate chronologically.

That is the shit that should be illegal. You should be charge no more than one overdraft fee at a time.

[–]azazelcrowley 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You forgot that this only applies to womens issues where they lag behind and is not and must not be applied to men.

[–]Greg_W_Allan 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

so their bank fines should be made less so they incur the same bank fees as men.

Men also gain from those reduced fees. Nothing changes in the overall scheme of things.

Men pay a higher car insurance than women for similar reasons.

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points42 points 6 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, except from my own personal experience, I see WAY more women being shitty drivers than men. I have a 30 minute commute every day, and I rarely ever see men distracted driving, but I see multiple women every day texting, doing makeup, etc. The data would reflect that women got more tickets IF they actually got the damn tickets. They get let off so often it's unbelievable.

[–]BraveNewNight 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Men are more risky pre-30. After that, women are worse.

[–]kursdragon 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

From the stats I've seen women are actually worse driver's per kilometer driven, just the problem is that men on average drive much larger distances on the road, and spend more time driving, which means their total accidents caused would be larger, but their accident per mile/kilometer driven is lower. So they are on average better drivers, they just driver more.

[–]BraveNewNight 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Which, even if true, would still make men a worse risk warranting higher premiums.

[–]kursdragon 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well except for it being illegal to give different premiums for health insurance on basis of gender. Since women used to have to pay higher health insurance until it was made illegal. So if we're going for equality then it wouldn't warrant higher premiums

[–]BraveNewNight 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not here.

Entirely part of the equation.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's still compete discrimination and should be illegal. I've never caused an accident in my entire driving career (15+ years) but still had to pay more than my sister who totaled a car less than year after getting her license. Risk is a case by case thing, it's completely unfair to blanket-fine an entire gender. Imagine if whites had to pay more than blacks because they get into more accidents? It would be shot down before it was even proposed.

[–]BraveNewNight 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've never caused an accident in my entire driving career (15+ years) but still had to pay more than my sister who totaled a car less than year after getting her license

Insurance works by creating risk pools based on various characteristics. This is the only way they can insure hundreds of people without monitoring their exact behaviour on and off the road. Sure that's discrimination - if you're lucky and don't have an accident. Statistically speaking as a 22 year old male, you're more than twice as likely to have an accident compared to your 26 year old sister.

The alternative is an insurance that tracks your every meter on the road, including driving behavior, route taken, etc. Most people today don't want to trade their privacy for a lower or more personalized premium.

Imagine if whites had to pay more than blacks because they get into more accidents?

They literally do. A guy from the kosovo here in Switzerland pays ~30-60% more insurance premium than a swiss or german guy - simply because that group of people on average have WAY more accidents.

You can call it discrimination, I call it hard facts.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure that would fly in the US but I may be wrong. People get bent out shape for much less, especially if it's a privileged class being 'infringed' upon.

[–]somellama 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

and which is a longer span of time?

[–]BraveNewNight 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The correct question is, who is worse overall - men in their 12 years or women in the 40 that follow?

sub-25 year olds are a ridiculous risk and predominantly male.

I'm not an underwriter though, so I don't know exactly how it breaks down over time.

[–]Lezardvy 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Personal experience too. Women tend to be more distracted or not paying enough attention. And men tend to be more daring and their mistakes comes from a wrong measure of the situation.

[–]MR_9uy 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As I recall women are more likely to have an accident but men are more likely to write off the car.

[–]KilgorrreTrout 13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Except not really the same reasons. As a man I pay higher insurance by default, without even being given a chance to prove I'm a good driver (I understand that actuaries have done a lot of research and proven that men, especially young men, are riskier drivers, but this doesn't negate my point). Women are not charged more up-front by their banks, it just so happens that women, on average, are less financially responsible and that results in them paying more banking fees.

They get equal opportunity, followed by the outcome they deserve based on their behavior. With car insurance, I get charged more just for being a man, not necessarily because of anything I've done personally.

[–]FrogTrainer 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

IIRC men are actually safer per miles driven. Its just that men typically drive a lot more miles.

Even though she couldn't afford it. She even had a renter in her basement and a second job on occasion. I helped her straighten things out when we married in 1995 (actually before) and the first thing was saying NO to her kids. Her girls, ages 10 and 13 at the time, hated me with a passion. Still do. Too bad.

School loans in default racking up hundreds of dollars of interest a month. Her problem was that up until she met me, no one ever said no to her or taught her any sort responsibility because that would be mansplaining. Long story short, within a year of me assisting her she paid off most debt and actually had spending money. This is a perfect example of the pink tax.

Men and women are subject to the exact same rules and treated objectively the same. But women act in a way that doesn't benefit her so some women cry sexism.

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's all propaganda. The more women can point to discrimination, even when it isn't discrimination, the more they receive special considerations of all kinds - considerations that men don't receive. More and more, men will be forced to earn what women are given, while people become more and more blind to what's expected of men that isn't expected of women. And, because women keep piling on, our culture will continue to try to find ways to appease them, to make them 'equal'. And, men will pay for it.

[–]SketchyPornDude8 points 6 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

This is insane. What are we talking about here?! Are we saying that women can do no wrong? Is everything sexist? This framing is blowing my mind.

Women:
*Are careless with their money to a greater degree than men and thus incur more bank fees.*
Society:
Money is sexist! Banks are sexist! The economy hates women!

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women, as a group - not necessarily all of the individuals we know, are encouraged, and encourage each other, to see absolutely everything in terms of women. "How can I interpret this in a way that could, and should, be improved to make me, as a woman, happy?" Because, you see, men are highly privileged, and it's only right to see the world completely in terms of women, to right the historical sin of the male species.

If it's not optimized for women, it's a fault, and it's sexist...and men are, somehow, to blame. And, they actually fucking believe that. If you hear the same message over and over and over again, you become convinced it's the truth. It helps infinitely that it's a 'truth' that they wish to believe in the first place. And, there's something very, very wrong and misogynist about questioning any of that.

Stash CEO Brandon Krieg attributed a steep disparity in check-bounce fees paid to the fact that women earn less than men, making them more vulnerable to letting their account fall into the red.

...

Those with lower incomes were hardest hit, according to the findings, which were based on 205 million transactions over the past year involving externally linked bank accounts by more than half a million Stash users. Women making less than $25,000 a year pay 23% more in fees each year while those making between $50,000 and $100,000 pay 16% more in annual bank penalties, reported Stash.

If women earning less than men was the cause, we wouldn’t see a difference when broken down by income level. All else being equal, men making $25k and women making $25k would have the same overdraft rates wouldn’t they?

[–]Regs2 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm sure they broke it down by income and found the same results. It's obviously a smokescreen because the CEO can't even imply "women are obviously less responsible than men with their money".

Women over drafts checking account. Men to blame.

Once I saw that article about there not being enough economically attractive men for women to marry, I realized our culture has now gone, full retard. If men and women are equal, why do you need a man who makes more money? What's wrong with making your own?

I also just saw a study of 800ish couples. Only one had a man that was shorter than the woman. Every other couple had the man taller than her. Yet, I'm supposed to believe men are the shallow, toxic, and thoughtless ones? No no no. Pretty sure the people refusing to date or marry people based on height and money are the ones who fit that box. 800 couples, only one with a taller female. I'm six feet tall mind you. That study just really showed me that women are incredibly shallow when it comes to relationships and men. If that study had some variance I'd say otherwise. It didn't, and was 1600 people. That's fucking crazy. Women, can you please stop doing this before our society completely breaks?

Women who make up to 25k is unsurprisingly 23%. This makes sense a lower income person is more likely to overdraw. The thing that blows my mind are women who make 50k to 100k are 16% more likely to overdraw. This is average to above average income in America, yet you're still overdrawn? This proves to me that women are really just 18% worse at handling their expenses than men and living above their financial means. I don't earn six figures but in 35 years I have overdrawn exactly 1 time when I was in college (and broke as fuck). Is this article telling me that I am oppressing women because I don't do it more often? Why haven't you pulled out more money than you have in the bank today you Sexist Pigs/s.

Mobilizing against a common enemy....

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Ok, too strongly stated for your tastes.

NOT an enemy that we need to literally go to war with. They are the opposition, and they see men, as a group, as the opposition. An ideological struggle, if that's more what you need to hear.

It's a zero-sum game, as constructed by women. It should always have been win-win, but feminists discovered they couldn't motivate enough women to support their cause with that ideology, and they actually decided to make men the enemy. No, I can't point to the evidence, but I've seen feminist writings to that end. So, I don't ask you to simply accept that. I ask you to keep your eyes open and recognize it when you see it.

The obvious evidence is in how often feminists, and female, initiatives (and propaganda) are put in zero-sum terms. Advancements for women seldom discuss how they could benefit men. Men, far from being supported in a general cultural initiative to free everybody from gender roles and repression, are pretty much told to stop whining about male disadvantages. Expecting women to live up to the same rules they've created for men is actually seen as misogyny. More radical feminists actually make it a point to abort male fetuses, and discuss that as a means to reducing men to about 10% of the population. That's why people like me speak in terms too strongly put, for you. They are the ideological enemy, the same way the political Left and Right in this country have become ideological enemies.. And, all the signs show that they are winning.

They'll give them tax breaks that will come out of the people who do earn more. And that will be men. Women will receive a gift from this, eventually, and it will be men who have to pay for it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Women in general huh? Dude you’re delusional.

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women are quite happy to receive whatever benefits feminism will bring them. There's a huge overlap between feminism and women in general, despite the fact that many women don't consider themselves feminists. Today's extreme feminist is tomorrow's woman who doesn't particularly think of herself as a feminist.

I'm delusional? That's your best argument? Come back if you ever have something useful to add.

[–]jameswalker43 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i hear you, bro I suppose I can sympathize with the feeling, sometimes it’s not so easy to hold one's tongue but remember - practice makes perfect

[–]dizzybarbarian 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

It's definitely sexist. I [36f] don't much care for banks or banking, and the fact that I can't just spend money that I don't have is bullshit :-)

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

And, how many women do you think are going to speak up and tell anybody at all that there's absolutely nothing sexist about women managing their spending so as to pay more fees? Very, very few. You will probably be the only one you know.

[–]dizzybarbarian 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Not to take an enormous tangent here, but my brand of feminism isn't well received by today's feminism movement. I'm for honoring stay-at-home moms, female executives, and everything in between. I think men should have a say in abortion - both globally and personally. If a woman goes forward with an unplanned pregnancy, then the man's obligation should be nominal, and the same goes for women who don't want a baby but keep it for their partner. I don't think that being "the first woman to do (something) is any credit to them.... As you might imagine, I've very, very few females in my strata who agree with me, but alas 🤷‍♀️

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I wish you were part of a reasonable majority of feminists. But, it's good to know that I really have to be very, very careful to not generalize about all feminists. Honestly, I think most MRAs would have no problem at all with supporting your ideas about what women need.

[–]dizzybarbarian 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Sad that there's so few voices from the female population who are willing to throw their hat into the ring - come what may. As we all know: "Right is right even if no one is doing it; wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it."

  • Saint Augustine (I think)

[–]McGauth925 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I suspect you would be criticized as showing evidence of internalized misogyny.

People are sheep. I've been thinking that that's at least as much one of our strengths as it is a weakness, despite the bad that we hear about it. It means we recognize how much we need each other people, how much we actually create, and are created by other people. But, it also means that there's correct thinking, and woe be unto anyone who thinks otherwise. Conform or suffer the consequences. Be well.

[–]dizzybarbarian 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Again, I pray for forgiveness for another tangent, but are you familiar with the mentality that black people (I shit you not) "cannot be racist, because they're the historically oppressed group"?

[–]McGauth925 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes. Sorry, I agree with that one.

Blacks can be as prejudiced as any white person who thinks black people are some kind of sub-human. From what I've read, black people, as a group, have little love for white people. But, the idea of racism is that the group that holds the power, who populates the higher levels of corporations, who comprise the great majority of the wealthy, who are the people in political positions of power, of law enforcement, of the media, can use that position to systemize the prejudices of that group. I think my people, white people, have done that for the past 400, or so, years, and have quite often blamed the results of our racist system on its victims. I.E., our group often sees it as their fault that they're poorer, have lower levels of education, commit more crimes, have more out-of-wedlock children, join gangs etc., etc. I don't think blacks have no responsibility for some of that, and I don't think any black criminal should receive a shorter prison sentence for his/her crimes. But, for another instance of racism, blacks receive longer sentences for the same crimes, and the same circumstances. I don't know of other explanation for that than systematic racism.

So, I'm guessing we're not going to see eye-to-eye on that one.

[–]dizzybarbarian 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Please don't ever apologize for your thoughts! I love to grow a more nuanced understanding of those positions to which I do not subscribe. I don't think either is "right or wrong," as they're simply opinions 😁 While I respectfully disagree, your position could not be more perfect. Can I, as a female (oppressed group) be accused of misogyny? Given that men (rightly) have been the seat of historical power, mightn't that mirror the sentiment regarding racism?

[–]McGauth925 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You could be accused of misandry. And, lots of people would tell you that that's no more possible than a black person actually being racist, because women are seen as having held no power in Western culture, despite the fact that there were queens, that women actually hold more wealth than men (men die sooner and leave wealth to women), that many laws, along with the implementation of those laws favor women, and the fact that women are a slim majority, and not a minority. Feminists try to draw parallels between racism and misogyny, but women really seem to hold a lot more power now, than blacks ever have, from what I can tell.

Me, I think misandry is simply a name for the belief that women are better than men.

Actually, racism is defined as a cultural phenomenon - a culture-wide implementation of prejudice. But, it gets used about individuals so, if the book definition hasn't changed, I wouldn't be surprised if it does, simply because it seems to be used more often to describe people than it does our culture.

Kinda like how men pay more in insurance due to our risky nature?

[–]serial_crusher 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Different actually. Every individual man pays more for insurance because a handful of irresponsible men ruined it for the rest of us.

In this case, a handful of irresponsible women pay a lot of fees so “women as a whole” pay more.

Financially responsible women pay the same amount of bank fees as financially responsible men ($0).

But with car insurance, safe-driving men pay more than safe-driving women.

[–]ViralInfectious 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Kinda like that except all men actually pay higher premiums, especially for inexperienced drivers, not just those with risky records.

[–]LegendarySouthPaw 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's what was implied, yes.

[–]mcchanical 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is a good point. Young male drivers pay a lot more for their insurance, you don't see too many of them complaining about it and women drivers are happy to accept lower fees without worrying about equality.

[–]McGauth925 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women know that men are privileged, so they have little problem overlooking a few male disadvantages here and there - that men obviously deserve.

No group has trouble believing that their group deserves it's advantages, and that they opposing group deserves their disadvantages. Almost everything unfairly benefits the opposing group so, if once in a long while the opposing group has a disadvantage, that can be safely overlooked. And men obviously deserve it.

[–]MisterHonkeySkateets 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I guess the same thing applies to xx. I say the same thing to xy. Stop giving the man your money.

[–]mcchanical 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is actually comical. It isn't a tax if everyone gets the same charges but you incur them more often because of the way you live. I suppose if I go and waste my money getting drunk every day can I claim that the money I've spent is an unfair tax discriminating against my inability to control my finances?

[–]stianftw 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So it’s ok to charge men more for car insurance since men are more prone to be involved in accidents?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This entire article makes my blood boil.

[–]fogoticus 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If this shit actually goes through and women for some odd reason start paying less taxes than men while being more reckless, this sexist shit will get said banks to pay tens of millions of dollars in damages.

Imagine being held accountable for doing something stupid and seeing a woman doing the same shit and not getting anything done to her. I'd be livid and immediately search to avoid said bank.

Same goes for the streaming platform Twitch.tv. Alinity, a female streamer who is known to have been a brand risk in the past gets protected royally by one of the top employees of the company. She did so much shit that could have gotten her perma banned over and over yet she didn't even a temporary short ban. Yet others do small stuff and not only get short bans but risk losing everything.

[–]claw09 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just a quick PSA:

Please keep the blame towards pop science media and claickbait headlines. The research the article cites is neutral and just reports the collected data. Anyone who reads the research would come to the natural conclusion, "people who make less money pay more in fees. Women tend to make less money. Therefore women are paying more in fees because of their lower income (due to a wide variety of factors, such as preferred jobs, time off for pregnancies, etc.) and not because of sexism.

Keep the research and the article separate from each other. Pop science has had this problem for a long time.

[–]MineDogger 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Reality is brutally sexist... You can't blame men for that. We've got too many of our own problems to deal with to actively conspire against women.

Women seem to have no shortage of free time to conspire against men, though... and each other, apparently.

[–]Tramm 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]14Three8 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It’s the same as guys having higher insurance premiums, but I don’t see them complaining about that

[–]NAWALT_VADER 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is a difference though. Men are collectively punished for the bad driving habits of some men. Not all men are bad drivers, but all men have higher insurance rates. Men that are good drivers still have to pay the higher fees initially.

The bank charges are completely under the control of the individual. The banks are not charging women more. Women are making choices to mismanage their own money, and as a result pay higher fees. The women who do not do this, do not pay the higher fees at all.

[–]ViralInfectious 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the same as insurance premiums No, it is actually different. All other factors considered, if I am M instead of F my insurance suggests a higher price. Only after driving for over 12 years did I find insurance that was able to fix this when I talked to someone.

[–]genericteenagename 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Until they outlaw all "ladies nights" where women get free drinks and free admissions while the men don't, I won't feel very sorry for women are upset that "They have to pay more." 🤦🏻‍♂️

[–]FaerilyRowanwind 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The only thing o think is not an equivalent in terms of pink tax is feminine menstral products. Razors, shoes, pants. Make better choices in purchasing. But feminine products are one of those necessities that are super expensive and is the only thing I would think actually has unfair taxing and such. That said. It’s totally terrible for the environment and using reusable materials are way way better.

In terms of bank fees. The fees are the same if you don’t know you are spending too much money and being charged for overspending then there is a problem with you not the fee. Make better choices.

Okay so this isn't just something that was a study performed on multiple banks across the country, this is specifically an E Bank which is only electronic transfers other than ATMs, I'm not even sure if they have actual branches. As such it probably appeals to a younger clientele, those that aren't in good financial habits yet.

If this was coming from Intuit, using their Mint app, I'd be more inclined to believe that this is widespread enough to be an actual issue.

[–]XenoX101 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Passing blame as always. If women choose to do things that are less advantageous for them than men, that is on them. The format of these articles is always the same. "Women are worse off in some situation X caused by their decision Y this is because of something that has nothing to do with decision Y". Or to put it simpler: "Woman are worse off in X, here is why it's not their fault (even though it is)". Such crock. At least it gives them insight into the decisions causing it, I guess.

[–]abatoire 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Well to me this is kind of sexist? If you are a woman you are presumed to be bad with money.

In the UK we use to have women only car insurance companies and men premiums were much higher because we were more like to have an accident. This was deemed sexist and stopped.

[–]EricAllonde[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you are a woman you are presumed to be bad with money.

There's no presuming here, the study literally found that women overdraw their accounts more often than men do.

Women's behavior is the only reason why they pay more in bank fees. If the "presumption" was wrong and women actually managed their money as well as men do, then they wouldn't pay more in bank fees, on average.

[–]abatoire 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sorry I missed read the information. Women are paying fines and penalties. Not higher monthly rates for the account itself.

It's not really gender based if the fault is with the individual so not sexist. However the article claims is because women are paid less with is then making it a sexist issue. Which might be the case, is very unlikely to be only issue as to why women incur more fees than men.

[–]Needlecrash[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One of my ex's does this a lot. Account is usually in the negative, spending what she doesn't have and when she does, she shrugs it off. In my opinion, that article and all of the shit it stirs is the kind of degenerative mental trauma that all developed world humans are dealing with. What reproductive parts we have are only an iota of the whole alphabet which keeps this language projection in effect. I think that it's more productive of us humans (of humus=earthlings) to study our individual, internal nature and not force our will or project our thoughts on anything else. Buy the materials and commodities, serve commerce all you want; try doing it with a noble dignity to be so capable of those magical slights of hand. Out here, there are bitch boys and bitch girls just alike. All bitching about the same reality. A phallus is that and a vagina is that. You cannot deny the inequality of those parts. Let's stop trying to hurt each other over what we are born as. Banking and commerce is a collective collaboration made up of more than just humans. Without earth's resources, none of the things we do would be possible.
