Most of my girlfriends in the past have acted liberal and (left) amongst their friends but when it came down to it about half of them were actually Conservative in private or didn't know that their core beliefs where Conservative when really questioned about them - because of that and the implicit social adaptability people use in order to fit in whatever groups they find themselves in at a particular time as well as the wider zeitgeist of political correctness, I wouldn't trust simple poll based research to be accurate.

Huh, it turns out that if you demonize and scapegoat an entire gender as being brutish rapists and dogs while willfully ignoring credible data to the contrary, they are less likely to listen to you.

I'm a leftist, but I wasn't always. It was that exact reason that made me a conservative - I disagreed with them on most things, but they didn't pretend like I had it easy. (Pretended women did, though).

Is this unique to Gen Z? Many studies have shown that women are more often liberal compared to men, this goes across all ages groups.

In any case here's my opinion: the common perception of today's left is that it's far more concerned with social justice than any sort of class wars, and this could be disinteresting to many moderately political (not necessarily conservative) men who are probably more interested in economic equity such as adequate compensation and reasonable home prices; without the left's primary sights set on economic issues rather than on social justice one's, it may not be doing the best job to garner the support of young men who are disinterested in sociology.

Another factor here lies where my suspicion detects an extremely gynocentric attitude in mainstream liberal thought: any average individual who hasn't the time nor care to study male and female nature might suffer from myopia when analyzing the morality of both genders: "well, looking at crime statistics and wealth control, it's obvious which gender is evil."

This naïvety of liberal-minded individuals who are often blind to the soft-power of women as well as to women's expressions of psychopathology which often differ from that of men's, could lead to mainstream liberalism being rather gynocentric, and this has played a great role in aliening many young men.

The way I see it, history will move in pendulums: an era of women-centrism angers the men who will usher male-centrism, and that in turn will radical feminism and so on...

The explanation is simple. Conservativsm appeals to young men with the aspects of self improvement, physical fitness and embracing masculinity. Meanwhile liberalism is usually very feminist, rejects masculinity, and preaches female liberation while not caring about men.

The left needs to appeal to men way more in order to win them over.

This makes sense to me. Men, by practice, are demonized, then follow politics of “keep.” Women, by practice, are lionized, then follow politics of “take.”

Or women are liberal when it suits (female only grants, stipends, quotas, DEI, etc. And men dont face social issues as we have "male privilege" etc) but women are also conservative when it suits (e.g. when dating the always pays)

Well I think part of the problem is that many liberals still discuss our social problems like it’s still the 50’s. That can turn a lot of people away. For example, the hyperbole about race relations in America. I am well aware that there are racists out there, but I don’t think there’s a noose on every corner anymore. 👌🏾

My experience is that most self-described leftists or liberals are only as liberal as they're either pushing policies that benefit them directly e.g. quotas for women in businesses or as Maggie Thatcher (not someone I'm usually a fan of) would have it 'spending other people's money'. I'm not surprised this is particularly true of young women as it gels with my experience. I think the average young woman is economically right wing but socially left wing, and the average young man is economically left wing but socially right wing.

Don't think it's that remarkable of a trend. Men haven't changed their politics as much as women, have, and there are still more young men who identify as liberal in the United States. It's only really significant in South Korea.

I've heard a lot of things about South Korean men being very anti feminist, would be interesting if someone there could tell me about it.

I really despise these kinds of analysis. Not because I don’t think they’re important, but because it just feels so meaningless to me as most people are very inconsistent with their value structures. How many times do we talk about frustration with the left and feminism because they simultaneously hold up traditional values for men and want “progressive” policies for themselves? What good is it to label someone as conservative when they may have a completely different value system than most other conservatives? Where do we put anyone who has fiscally conservative beliefs but leans socially liberal? And how do we trust what people say they believe in? I know far too many people who are progressive talkers but any time action is required they are staunchly conservative.

Perhaps on a base level they can be useful because there’s correlations and somewhat consistent beliefs but I genuinely think we need to re-evaluate our approach to political identities.

That being said I think this is a clear trend in reaction to progressive values taking over and trying to push men aside. Boys hear about equality->Try over time to say there are things for themselves are unequal too->Then reach a point where they think as they are consistently unheard, unwanted, and demonized they feel as though the only way forward is not true equality because it well never happen, and the only way forward ironically is backwards to the older social contract because it was at least slightly more balanced and at least feels more honest as to what’s expected of them.

I don't understand this. I used to be militantly MODERATE. Like, I checked the Nolan charts of different politicians in and found politicians who were in the middle of the spectrum and touted how awesome they are.

The older I get the more leftwing I become. I've become consistently further left than most (not all) feminists I talk to. Many of them have effectively conservative positions on things even if they identify as liberal. Maybe I'm an outlier because now I don't just identify as "liberal" I identify as "Leftwing AF". Or, as an "intersectional egalitarian".

The point of my rant is how are so many men going in the other direction? It just boggles my mind.

Probably because it doesn't take much revoke rights that took years to fight for (reproductive rights, reasonable work hours, minimum wage (though that needs to be raised massively), the right for previously unrepresented demographics to vote and own property, etc.). You can vote out peoples' rights easily, but you have to fight to get them back. It's easier to side with the status quo and in favour of billionaires that give no shts about the wellbeing of their voter base than to risk arrest or death by participating in violent protest. I participate in the electoral system but have zero faith in any party under our kleptocratic system.

It's hard to sell a political stance that hinges on seeing most people as lesser / not deserving of autonomy and respect to those people. It's a coddling ideology that seeks to affirm insecure people that their irrational hatred and anxieties are grounded and respectable.
