When men find out that Sydney Sweeney knows about cars, that’s a turn on. When a chick plays video games or watches football she’s “one of the boys”.

In some ways, men want a hot chick who they can relate to and who can share in their world. They want what Gillian Flynn satirized as “The Cool Girl” in her book Gone Girl.

I feel like people like to stand on the idea that men like these submissive flowers who just fade into the wallpaper and live in their own universe apart from them. Is this really true tho?

Part of the problem is that “masculine” and “feminine” are such ambiguous terms. All the masculine traits are the proactive hero qualities: strength, courage, independence, leadership. What are the feminine traits? Compassion? Empathy? … But… I don’t think those traits are even uniquely feminine (I don’t think the masculine ones are uniquely male, as well). I think the trad people who talk about natural order, and feminine polarity are just reading from a sort of religious script.

I think, mostly, men are just looking for a woman they get along with. There’s the idea that men are looking for a mom who can cook and clean everything for them. I don’t think most men are specifically looking and selecting for that, I think it’s just a dynamic they fall into because men can sometimes suck at maintaining those skills.

Trad people end up with trad people because they share similar values. When it comes to there being a feminine “mask” that women have to put on, I think it manifests mainly in the physical. Makeup is literally one type of mask. Men certainly want a woman to look feminine, there’s no debate there. But… if we’re talking about a set of strict gendered traits that women have to adhere to, I think it’s looser than the ones women can sometimes expect of men.

If this post sounds confused or contradictory or lacking empathy, feel free to call me out on that.
