Depends on what ages we’re talking about. For example, 18-22 yr old girls (especially the ones who are not particularly attractive or popular) are often more easily impressed, more desperate for a boyfriend, and more willing to put up with more shit from a kinda loserish 25-30 yr old guy than women his age would be. But a guy in his 40s is going to have a much harder time dating a 20s-early 30s woman than a woman in his age group, unless he’s rich.

Very small percentage of single older men can date significantly younger (7+ years younger). These men will be desirable for both women their age or younger women. Vast majority of people date around their own age.

There is no reason for woman to go for significantly older man if man 25+ would already have career and is better looking/more active than his older competitor.

i also really disagree with the sentiment that attractive young women are somehow easy to attract. they simply have different standards and care more about looks and personality and less about financial status. and a large percentage of young women doesn't date significantly older men to begin with.

Or it's the other way round. Older women can't meet the standards of a man the same age;

• They don't have attraction from a fertility standpoint

• They carry baggage

• Sexual history and probably have children

• They don't go backwards on their standards, so an older woman if she's ever been with a guy making serious bread, will stick to that benchmark or remain single.

Older men often don't meet the looks standards of younger women, since they look old compared to them. So I'm not sure where this point comes from. Standards are high from women no matter what their age is - they are just different kinds of standards.

Some women become pickier as they age, but others become more desperate as their attractiveness and fertility disappears.

It's also true that the older someone is, the more opportunity they've had to be taken off the market. The remaining single older women are more likely to have unrealistic standards, mental issues, or are just unattractive.

Older women are also a lot more likely to have kids, meaning they have no ability to invest in other relationships.

The problem with this argument is there is an assumption that the best partner is someone your own age. It makes more sense for men to date younger. Better chance at having kids, the woman most likely is more attractive. She hasn’t had kids, or experience toxic relationships. Nobody can explain to me why dating someone your own age is supposed to be the preference

I think the problem stems from the standards that are set are completely disproportionate to what is offered by the demanding party. This is more prevalent in the 'dating market' such as dating apps and such due to the abundance of men in comparison to women on said apps. If there is a high supply of something (in this case, men), then it's rational to expect women to be more picky and demand higher standards. It's not just an age related problem.

Unfortunately, many Woman with high standards don't actually live up to their own standards and so remain single as they won't compromise standards or are never picked up by the men they desire due to those men being highly desirable and generally able to have a better pick of women in dating.

I actually agree with you that there are aspects about dating younger women that can be easier. Younger people regardless of gender tend to be more optimistic, more open-minded, and more adventurous. This is where the roastie meme of older guys "taking advantage" comes from: it's quite true that older women are more suspicious and finnicky, which means that in some respects, older men dating them have to bring more to the table, and can't be a "loser" in some specific ways. He has to be more socially "normal." He has to have hit specific financial milestones like a house and car. He has to not trigger certain, sensitive red flags.

There's also the frank matter of sex drive. Just like young men, young women are more up for it in general, they have more of a strong physical desire to just get fucked quite frankly than older women. This, again, is part of where the idea that they are more vulnerable to older men with corrupt motives than their older sisters are comes from: in many cases, it may actually be harder to literally seduce an older woman into sex for sex's sake, because in many cases she just doesn't want and certainly doesn't feel a sense of need for it as much. Older women are often more likely to want romance as a form of validation (have I still got it?) or as a way of talking a man into taking care of her, and may have experience in sniffing out and repelling men who just wanna hit it and quit it.

But. But, but. The giant, no less obvious fly in the ointment is... the vast majority of older men aren't that attractive. Less lead in their droopy pencils. More dad bods. More baldness. None of this is particularly attractive to young women, putting it mildly. So while exceptionally well-preserved older guys are still in with a chance, and while young women going through a particular fit of lust might happen to be up for it at the right time which can be good news for an older guy who happens to be in the right place... in practice, most young women will choose their young male peers 9 times out of 10. For perfectly understandable, natural reasons that are the same reasons men also like young women.

I think there's often a tendency for people to make the whole matter of relationships and aging just a gender thing, when really it isn't so much. Men have somewhat an advantage in being fertile for longer, while women have something of an advantage in the fact that quite frankly they will always have an upper hand when they have something men tend to want more than the other way around. But other than that, the dynamics are remarkably the same.

It's been obscured by womens' traditional need for support from a male partner (betabucks and not real attraction is unfortunately a big part of the old men age like wine meme; another probable cause for this idea is that since so many loser men never have proverbial salad days, it can seem like they don't have as big a fall in middle and old age since they go from nothing to nothing, or nothing to a little something when women look for the settle-down guy, whereas typical women go from seven to four in terms of their dating life - a decline for sure compared to their situation when they were younger, but they had more to lose in the first place, which is where the "wall" idea comes from).
