There are always underlying relevant biotruths, but at the same time, culture and environment matters a lot. Every culture establishes mating norms. Usually, there are good reasons. But the very doing of making norms seems to be natural to humans. At the same time, an hyper-individualist Liberal culture like the USA is somewhat philosophically against norms. Then throw in the difficulty of creating norms when the common cultural consensus on anything had broken down greatly due to multiculturalism and massive immigration. Finally, you have the deep Left / Right cultural divide, including various attitudes to feminism.

So while I agree that some of the attempts at norm making around age gaps seems a bit deranged, one can at least understand it to some extent.

They're really weird about it. I'm 39 and my wife is 31. On my old account I once had an American woman losing her shit at me because "what does a grown assman of 39 have in common with a literal child" etc etc.

I'm being hyperbolic with the "literal child" line, but you know the sort of stuff that was being said. Power dynamic, her brain has only just developed, manipulation, abuse. All that bollocks.

It's bizarre. If you told an adult woman IRL that she's too young to consent, she'd probably laugh in your face.

What's unhinged about it? There's really nothing weird about not wanting your child dating someone decades older than them. She's wasting her best, most attractive years, with a man that peaked a long time ago. Not to mention that, statistically, if she decides to have kids with him, he likely won't be there til they reach adulthood.

Yep. I’m in a 12 year age gap and people constantly say it’s weird…even though we met when I was 30 and he was 42. Grown ass adults. Idk why some people are so weird about it. I legit dont even think about it except when we talk about high school or something.

I agree that Americans are weird about age differences. But this isn't the case here. 20 and 40 is in fact a big difference. And as far as I understand, people in other, eastern, cultures would think it's odd too, though they might not be as hyperbolic

I’m not American, but I would never have done an age gap relationship. I think adults can do what they want, but I am equally sick of the whining from the side of older men online calling me a bitch, brainwashed, or even ugly for finding it weird. Live your life and go find a younger woman open to it. You’re 2 sides of the same coin. No one is preventing you from pursing women into that.

I'm in my 40s, I'd feel like a creep doing anything with a woman in her early 20s and therefore wouldn't want anyone in their 40s creeping on my kids when they're that age.

Thre grown adults desperate to argue strangers on the internet into approval of age gaps are equally unhinged imo.

I'm waiting until marriage and we all know how the vast majority of Reddit feels about that. I don't feel the need to create posts just to argue with people about it. I know it's unusual nowadays. I understand the risks and pitfalls people associate with it, and there's definitely validity to some of those concerns. But I'm grown, I've chosen this after weighing the pros and cons, and I don't need to get unanimous approval from strangers to live my life. Try it sometime people.
