I’ve heard this statement from and about good-looking women quite a few times. And it’s sometimes tinged with a vague sense of loneliness. When this statement is said, it’s often followed up with the suggestion that the woman looks too intimidating, but would that really be enough to fend off all men? Do they really mean that they get hit on, but not by men they find attractive enough? I find the claim hard to reconcile with some other women’s complaints about men hitting on them too much.
