No I mean it’s a little weird if your purpose is to specifically expose your young kids to half naked women but it’s just a restaurant, it’s not like it’s a strip club. Of the things to consider “bad parenting” it doesn’t seem like a huge deal.

I've been to Hooters, it's just a gimmicky restaurant. It's like TGI Friday's with white tank tops. It's not a titty bar. A pre-teen kid probably won't even pay attention.

Not in my opinion. I think it can lead to some actually problematic behavior, such as unwanted groping or whatever, but I rather directly condemn those behaviors than blame objectification. 99% of the time, at worst, it's just a mild inconvenience.

Pretty sure that the preteen boys can look at boobs in other places even if in less concentration in one place, and that's assuming that the particular Hooters is full of waitresses that have huge boobs (far from all of them do).

Nothing wrong with it for a simple family meal if your kids like wings and that type of food (perfectly fine occasionally).

I think it might qualify as "trashy" but that might be my classism showing. I wouldn't call it bad parenting. If you took your kids to hooters and made lewd comments about the staff, THAT would be bad parenting, but if you just took them there for some wings or whatever, fine.

There are many cultures and places in the country where exposing kids to adult culture is not seen as nefarious... i remember in the early 90s my best friends dad taking us to bars and shit and his friends would be smoking and cursing and offering me swigs of beer. No one cared back then.

Hooters was an "edgy" titty experience 20 years ago, kids see more revealing outfits online, in video games, out on weekends if they don't live in Podunk-ville, tv, etc. Anyone getting stupid about Hooters either doesn't have kids and is imagining how "perfect" they'd be, or never leaves the house with their kids, or watch TV for that matter.

Objectification is actually something they understand from a young age if you give context. I can tell my son "Hooters is a type of restaurant that lures slobbering dorks in because the boobs and hot pants distract from how bad the food is. These women are paid to make what's actually gross (the food) tolerable." And he'll laugh and shake his head and remind me that I've gone to Dita Von Teese shows. Where I tell him it's the same thing, but a Hooters waitress is nowhere near Dita's level. Class warfare!

If they have siblings they hear it too. His sister gave him shit for playing a video game where the women look like "sluts." Luckily (facepalm inc) for her the character customization is on point in Soul Calibur, he made a character using shapes provided to give a guy a boner and called it equality as she ran scream/laughing. He's almost 11, I doubt a 12yr old was scarred by Hooters.

it's an anachronism because society in general has become so much more openly sexualized since the early '80s. their whole schtick is that have hot young waitresses walking around in tight t-shirts and booty shorts. which is supposed to be all titillating and edgy, but it's actually tame af today lol.

I took both my kids, pre-teen to hooters more as a joke on my wife (she didn't mind) because its kinda meaningless to a pre-teen and hooters in my area is now basically a family restaurant. You go in at lunch and its more women tables than men. Its been surpassed by places like Twin Peaks, which as better food at hotter women.

It depends on the parent.

If the dad is the kind of a guy who thinks breastaurant waitress = serving wench prostitute and treats the staff as such then demonstrating and passing on that kind of behavior to his kids is trashy. Though there's a good chance that was going to happen whether he took them to Hooters or not.

I've heard that most guys act normal, tip well, and keep any flirting light and fun though.

My first job in college was as a waitress at hooters and there were dozens of family tables there a night, and even more often, travel baseball teams of 10-14 year old boys and their parents would come in to eat. It’s not some overly sexual strip club — i wore tank tops and short shorts with tights so thick they were basically nude-colored pants (nowadays most young girls wear that or less in summer)

I don’t think they came in for the “girls” but more the wings and kid friendly food. But honestly, who cares if they ogle some women — no woman who works at hooters can really expect people not to pay attention to her figure while she’s there (it’s literally part of the job description).

Outside of that job I don’t want to be objectified or overly sexualized. But when I was there I knew why I was hired (to serve and look good while doing it) so while I woulda been PISSED if a man or boy groped me or crossed a line, him simply staring is kinda what I signed up for. And boys are only going to stare if they’re already having those thoughts before they came in

Maybe it depends on the context/the parent? If it's under the category of "nudity and breasts are normal and fine, and its nothing to be ashamed of", then great. This is more the European standard..breasts etc are not sexualized as much.

If it's more under the category of "get yourself off to T&A and that is is what women want and/or all they are good for", then it's not good parenting Lol.

When I went to lakes and swimming parks in Germany women lay out topless and no one "ogles" them...breasts are seen as normal..not an invitation to sex etc. I myself really appreciated the yogurt commercial in Italy with a nude man diving in to the pool and swimming across it. I am sure I did "ogle" that lol...but I certainly controlled myself lol. A Man and his 5 year old daughter at the water park both got dressed outside by their towels right in front of me. That was not Ogle-worthy, but it was certainly a part of an eye opening experience that changed how I see certain things.

You could ask the same about letting kids have a beer.. I stand by the context in which the material is presented/educated/modeled toward the kids. In Germany they gave my kids Bi-bop at brewery tours and fall festivals. My kids have always had access to alcohol as teens, and we modeled moderation and being in control of its effects. My parents did not talk to me or my brother about alcohol etc. The 1st time I was exposed to it I turned in to an animal. I could have died or killed others multiple times. I did awful things. I didn't want my kids to have that option. So far so good...my kids are 23 and 21 now and trustworthy.

I think there are far worse examples of parenting that would be on the "bad" side of the spectrum. But ya, generally, it seems trashy/low class. I certainly would not be calling CPS or waste time worrying about it.
