Men don't age like wine.

That concept is just a coping mechanism for 30-something guys who can't face the reality that their balding, greying and wrinkling appearance signals the fact that their attractiveness is clattering downhill with the speed of a runaway train.

Very few people look better than their 20-25 year old selves as they grow older. Almost everyone ages like milk.

The only reason for the old saying "men age like wine and women age like milk" is because women didn't use to be able to support themselves and men could support a family. And therefore all women had to offer was their looks. And a man's salary outweighed his aging looks.

These days, men are just about as much milk as women. Women still have trouble in combining career and children, so that aspect remains (and a man who earns well is still attractive). But the gap is rapidly closing.

Women do want a man around their own age - and many are starting to look for men in an age range that skews a bit younger than themselves as well.

Men can age like wine if they keep in shape and their hairline doesn't recede as they age. In other words, only a small amount of them.

Male beauty standards also tend to be more forgiving of other signs of aging, like wrinkles, though some men take that as indication that they will be attractive even at senior citizen ages, which obviously isn't the case.

Though it is interesting to see blue pillers take two seemingly opposite stances when the discussion of aging comes up: trying to convince people that plenty of women don't age horribly, while simultaneously acting as if 100% of men do and men are delusional if they think they can age well.

female SMV is almost entirely based on appearance and youthfulness is a key aspect of female attractiveness.

male SMV is more complex and isn't entirely based on appearance. and pure youthfulness is less emphasized for men. a few minor winkles and gray hairs don't hurt men as much as they hurt women.

female SMV drops dramatically as a woman grows older. almost every single woman is significantly better looking and thus has a higher SMV when she is 20 than she does at 40. the only exceptions are things like women who are obese when they are in their 20s and then lose all their excess weight and get into yoga in their 30s. and that girl would have been hotter at 20 than 40 if she wasn't a fatass.

for the sake of argument, let's just ignore the fact that a youthful appearance is more important for women and just say that male and female appearance diminishes at the same rate. all of the other factors that contribute to male SMV generally increase with age if the guy isn't a fuckup - experience, social status, career success, etc. women can't fall back on those other factors because female SMV gives so much weight to physical appearance alone. at the very worst, male SMV decreases slower than female SMV.

the thing that throws off a lot of people like OP is that they are trying to compare individuals and then arguing against a description of male and female SMV in general. there are plenty of people who start out with a very high SMV, and still have a relatively high SMV when it decreases as they get older. and there are lots of people with extremely low SMVs whose SMVs always stay low.

if you take a woman who was 9/10 when she was 20 and a man who was 4/10 when he was 20 and then compare them at 40, it's very possible that the woman is still out of his reach in the sexual marketplace. but that doesn't mean the "men are wine, women are milk" idea is false, that woman could have easily dropped to a 7 while he increased to be a 6.

the fact that some women say they don't have issues finding suitors in the 30s and 40s. ofc they won't. men are thirsty. the real issue is that the top tier 30 and 40 year olds aren't getting approached by the top tier 30 and 40 year old guys. the top tier older guys are in a completely different market going after ( and getting) the younger girls.

the older women don't even realize these guys exist. they see all the dopey, mid-SMV betas like OP's friends- guys who are desperate to go after post-wall women and think "all these men are pretty lame and I still have an SMV advantage, this proves that TRP is wrong" but nope. there are plenty of very high quality men out there, they're just not chasing old women.

40 year old women don't share a lot of social spheres with 20 year old women, and even when they do, the younger girls typically keep a low profile about dating older men because of the insane amounts of shaming they will get from older women.

It depends. From what I've seen and experienced, having gone through a stint as a single guy in my late 30's, if you are comparing a man and a woman who don't have kids, make money, and generally live their lives responsible for just themselves, then both age about the same. If you're comparing a person with kids, mired in family responsibilities, or struggling financially to a carefree counterpart, then the advantage goes to the carefree person regardless of gender. Stress is a mother fucker.

It's true, but the kind of attention women get from men when we are young isn't the kind of attention we want anyways. So although the total amount of attention we get decreases, the amount of meaningful attention increases. You get less sexual attention, but more attention for relationships.

Those problems are not something I can relate to at all, my early 30s were really easy datingwise. IMO it's easy street if you have a fun lifestyle and take care of yourself physically. I haven't had any problems meeting girls 21-25 and if you don't want the "leftover women" types among older women, just don't date them, there are plenty of quality older women that don't fit that description

I feel like I'm in a different world talking about this stuff tho bc a lot of people here disagree with me on this stuff, particularly the ease or difficulty of dating younger women, but IMO, it's not a problem

Biologically, 25 is the peak of the hill for women's reproductive success. It's all downhill from there.

Furthermore, you have to consider the mental wellbeing of a woman who has still not reproduced in her 30s. She has some serious mental hangups that are getting in the way of her natural imperative.

If you're a quality male then you can and should be mating with women who are mentally and physically in their prime.

If you don't understand that then I think you have a lack of self-confidence. You deserve the best children you can get. Statistically, this means finding someone under 25.

So the idea is:

women over 25 are reproductively inferior
women over 25 are for lower-value men who lack self-confidence
women have serious mental hangups if they haven't reproduced by 30
women change into a new person when they become a mother, so you have to imagine what a woman would be like as a mother

The men who "age like wine" have an influx of wealth, a comfortable lifestyle, an attractive and healthy body; dating/ mating potential is derived largely from those three factors, so it makes sense that a man's opportunities increase with age. In that regard older men have access to seduce/attract a larger number of women than younger men do.

I believe, and have observed, that the dating/ mating potential of women remain largely unaffected as they age. Some women lose a degree of attractiveness as they age, but by and large those women have suitors be it older unattractive men, or younger men.

It makes more sense for the woman trying to start a family early to look for an older, more established man, irrespective of whether men get sexier at age 30 instead of less. Women can also work at getting a better selection of men as they age by taking good care of their bodies, and hoping for good genetics.

Men who date younger women tend to be more discrete about it, because of the implication that they are robbing the cradle. At the same time, women tend to be more discrete because of the implication they are gold diggers.

They are out there, they just arent spamming it all over facebook.

I think that people change as they age. Whether or not they become better or worse partners as they age depends on what people are looking for in a partner. Both men and women become physically less attractive and lose fertility. They both get emotionally mature and build a career with all those benefits. In terms of marriage and LTRs, I'd say people generally age well. Most people agree that appearances take a back seat to personality when you are looking for something serious.

Women dating in their late teens/early 20's have a much easier time then men.

Men dating in their 30's have a much easier time then women.

Not that hard of a concept to understand.

Ageing sucks for everybody, but relationship-wise it is of smaller consequence for men since looks is only one of a number of parameters which determine his overall level of attractiveness. Whereas for women, looks is the only game in town. Looks and youth. But if a man has all the same status, self confidence, accomplishments, earnings, etc. at 21 as he does at 31, then he'll be more attractive at 21. It's just seldom so. There also seem to be a subset of women who age really really badly. And early too. Much worse and earlier than men in general.

Your friends in the early 30s should easily be able to date down to the mid 20s.

I guess to put it succinctly: My male friends in the early 30s have to deal with the god-awful dating market of "leftover women".

You dont exactly disprove it here, do you? You say your friends are getting better with age but have to deal with the dregs? This doesnt disprove the statement, it just means that the glee with which people make it may be misplaced.

However, I do think it's very exaggerated. It seems to be a big button-pusher and people go off the deep end, both ways.

I've had a blast dating in my 30s compared to in my 20s. It's been a lot easier. I've met girls in their 20s and in their 40s and I've always had plenty of options. But, I wind up spending most of it with women who are about the same age. And they're fine to me. They also seem to be ok generally as opposed to very upset about their looks declining.

There is a tinge of sadness with some older women. You get the sense that they miss the days when they could click their fingers and have 3 guys come running. I think a misconception is that this is the end of the world for them though.

Speaking from my own experience, being successful with the opposite sex is just a lot more important when you're younger. To a young frustrated guy Im sure the fantasy might seem comforting.

To a woman who is nearly 40 and single, hopefully she has built up a life with enough depth by this time to not pin her worth on being able to get guys.

So, I think there is truth in the idea that guys get an easier time in the dating market, and for women it can become more tricky. It's not going to mean the end for the woman though.

I don't know that men age like wine physically, but age tends to bring with it a certain IDGAF attitude that often makes men more attractive to women. They become more confident and comfortable with who they are. A few wrinkles and a few grey hairs aren't enough to offset this, especially if he keeps is body in shape to boot.

Female attractiveness (as perceived by straight men) tends to be pretty much 100% physical and very focused on youth/fertility. Men don't really care about how a woman behaves as long as she has clear indicators of child-bearing capacity. The slightest signs of "wear and tear" in old age reveal that she's not all that fertile anymore, which is where the "age like milk" comes in.

I dated a few much younger women, because we shared common ideals, interests, and age is "just a number", right? Besides, when I was their age, I wanted a mentor who was older than me, to give me the benefit of their experience.

Turns out that even if someone can say all the right things, actually doing them is another matter entirely.

An adolescent brain doesn't completely go away until your mid-twenties, and until then, there are some incredibly good reasons why many people regret what they were doing around that age.

Well, the error here is that men in their 30s don't have to date women their own age. Of course, there are many reasons they would.

You could argue that, metaphorically, we all age like wine. I'm not a wine expert though, so I'm not going to insult any by trying to explain what the aging process does for wine, and am just going to suggest you read about it.

As for my experience, men sometimes age well, and sometimes don't. As do women. I haven't noticed any big difference between the sexes in terms of attractiveness with age.

Some guys look young(er) generally. So if you are 25 and look 19-20 fewer women will take a shine to you.

if you are 45 and look like you are in your mid thirties , you have a wider range of women liking your look.

I don't care how hot a woman is, but she will almost always be her most attractive in the 18-25 range.

meh, I know plenty of guys dating girls 10-20 years younger. I can't even say theyre all high value either, but they're certainly interesting in their own right. IF your friends cant date younger girls, they're probably losers tbh. It isn't impossible at all
