In my reading on the Red Pill forum, I have noticed a distinct hate-on for single mothers.

I don't hate them, but I sure as fuck wouldn't seriously date them or live with one.

They are ok for hookups I guess

[–]Gorgatron1968where are the craps1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is that something you would tell them before you pumped and dumped them ?

[–]squidracer 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends on how drunk I am at the time.

I have before and it didn't cockblock me. Most of them know that no guys with options wants to live with them

[–]prodigy2throw#Transracial21 points22 points23 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Pretty irresponsible to bring a child into the world without a father figure and a stable household.

Pretty irresponsible to bring a child into the world

I don't know how anyone does without massively selective vision.

[–]buttlollipop 2 points2 points2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Maybe I'm off base here, but aren't most single mothers just women who are divorced? I don't think that many women willfully get pregnant knowing there's no father in the picture, unless of course they're poor, plus they live in a state where access to birth control and abortion is severely limited.

[–]prodigy2throw#Transracial6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Then don't go marrying an "ain't shit nigga". Then you won't have to get divorced.

All this child support, welfare, empowered single moms crap is just tip toeing around the fact that these people are making horrible decisions and expecting others to pay for their shitty mistakes.

That being said, of course not ALL single moms are bad. I wouldn't hold it against a mother because her husband died and she's left to care for the kids on her own.

[–]sunkindonut149Blue Pill Mouse0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What if most men are "aint shit niggas" because of the economy? Socioeconomic groups in modern America are partially endogamous. Working class women usually date working class men that listen to country music, rather than soft middle class men.

[–]Transmigratory0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then don't go marrying an "ain't shit nigga". Then you won't have to get divorced.

I'm red leaning, but you're saying they all consciously go for the "ain't shit nigga"? Either you meet the profile of a typical redditor or you're still are in the beginning phase of TRP.

[–]prodigy2throw#Transracial0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm saying a lot of people, men and women, make life decisions without really putting much thought into it.

You should be able to tell know very well who is compatible with you and who isn't.

[–]Transmigratory0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And you're saying they go with those who aren't compatible with them?

If you're red, I'm sure you realise it tends to be about "feels", unless you believe there's a different way to define compatibility?

[–]buttlollipop 1 point1 point1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Then don't go marrying an "ain't shit nigga". Then you won't have to get divorced.

I guess nobody should feel bad for men who get "divorce raped" then...they should have picked a more reliable beta-woman.

[–]Gorgatron1968where are the craps1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well by analogy the men should never have gotten married if they did not want to be "divorce raped".

[–]prodigy2throw#Transracial0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You absolutely should not feel bad for a man who knowingly takes a heavily unfavourable deal and marries someone who would divorce rape him. Also, if he's dumb enough to not properly protect his assets then that's on him.

You won't find much sympathy for victims who create their own circumstances here. I'm not with the MRA shit.

My cousin has 12 kids and 5 baby mothers. At first, I thought he was just a deadbeat/shitty person. But after the 3rd and 4th baby mothers, I realized women make horrendous decisions. But hey, "Alpha Genes", right?

[–]returnofthemackX 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

a quality women would not be involved, that's for sure

[–]francisfitzgerald 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Where these women always non-quality throughout their entire life or did the non-quality status come from getting pregnant by my loser cousin?

[–]returnofthemackX 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The getting knocked up part is just a sympton of their low quality. Do they even use birth control?

[–]brewmastermonk12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I feel more pity than hate. They made a terrible decision and they can't give me what I want. Namely, I want to be chosen as a quality man by a woman that I think is awesome. A single mom can't do that because she is more invested in her existing children to be able to not lie to herself about a dude's value in the hopes that he helps her raise her existing children or at the very least gives her resources she can use for her existing children.

oh, I'm sure you'll be very suprised how many women 'are pregnant' so she convinces the guy to bareback, since cat's out of the bag.

For that kid, born in month 10, what a miracle.

I've seen it happen to friends in real time.

[–]SockSage -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Spermjacking is pure paranoia and doesn't really exist.

Manspreading is inconsequential and a "micro aggression".

[–]buttlollipop 1 point1 point1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

that's true, I guess I just mean in the "buzzword" sense. Although I disagree that manspreading is a microaggression, I think men just have longer legs than women.

Not at all. Not always their fault...

Sometimes I'm disgusted by the men that won't stick around for the kids. They are half the problem and it's just weakness on their part

That said, I am totally disgusted by women that use having children to 'trap' the man, which does happen quite a bit.

[–]lbspredh3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well it just occurs that someone is paying the bill for the baby, in a lot of cases it's me as a taxpayer. I don't hate them but should we encourage people to be a drain on society?

[–]SetConsumesAlways Becoming9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I hate that they exist, but to no fault of their own really. Shitty society creates shitty situations.

[–]Subway_Bernie_Goetz0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, "society" made them have unprotected sex outside of marriage to the type of guy who doesn't stick around.

[–]GroovyEFS 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't care enough to hate them. But definitely wouldn't date one.

  1. to be very clear, to ME "single" mother means a woman who deliberately has an out of wedlock child.

  2. i dont hate them as individuals, i find the PHENOMENON of single motherhood to be the chief cause of poverty and dysfunction in the west, and i revile the cultural ramifications of single motherhood

[–]cxj75% Redpill Core Ideas7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. I know many single mothers, and even several who fit the TRP worst case scenario of them, lol. They are mildly to moderately annoying but easily avoidable, I don't really hate them.

I think single motherhood is bad for society as a whole, and the taboo against criticizing them is ridiculous. Single moms are not "Heroes."

[–]abicus434310 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (126 children) | Copy Link

And when it's an obvious case of dead beat dad took off and left his family high and dry it's the woman's fault for her circumstances? How do you differentiate? Stigmatizing all single mothers seems harsh considering they are the parent that stuck around to actually try to live up to the responsibility of having a child. It takes two to tango, where are the fathers? I don't think the term single mother should he used as a derogatory term.

[–]Atlas_B_Shruggin🔪Yeetus that Feetus🔪12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (44 children) | Copy Link

And when it's an obvious case of dead beat dad took off and left his family high and dry it's the woman's fault for her circumstances?

were they married?

[–]abicus43438 points9 points10 points 9 years ago* (30 children) | Copy Link

Either way, neither situation can be made soley the woman's fault or responsibility. Some women are irresponsible and get knocked up by douchebags while having a string of ONS's, that's trashy low class behaviour, the thing is, a man was also involved in that scenario, he ejaculated his sperm into a woman he didn't know because he was horny and had no self control. Both people are acting irresponsibly and a child is the consequence. In that situation then, who stuck around to try their best to raise the child and who abandoned the child completely? I have more respect for the parent that stuck around. Villifying single mothers as the rejects of society while giving the fathers a pass is just a way to absolve men of any responsibility for the state of society today. We are all part of the problem, some more then others. At least the women are trying to raise the children and not just walking away as though they don't even exist.

[–]Atlas_B_Shruggin🔪Yeetus that Feetus🔪11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

fathers have no choice if the baby is born or adopted out, only women do. unilateral choice, unilateral blame, IMO. as long as women have the unilateral option of abortion its all on them

[–]abicus43438 points9 points10 points 9 years ago* (27 children) | Copy Link

Here's a thought.....if you don't want a child, don't ejaculate into a woman. Problem solved.

[–]Atlas_B_Shruggin🔪Yeetus that Feetus🔪18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

why doesnt that apply to women? if they dont want babies and cant afford them why are they spreading their legs without birth control or not getting abortions?

im not a man by the way

[–]abicus43435 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

When did I ever say that it didn't apply to women? Go back and re-read and try to understand my original comment before starting an argument.

When did I ever say that it didn't apply to women? Go back and re-read and try to understand my original comment before starting an argument.

Geez.. I dunno that women can actually ejaculate into other women to create babies.. I mean what other gender actually does that?

[–]abicus4343-1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

What are you talking about?! Jesus, you are either very young or your reading comprehension skills are severely lacking.

Abusing the opposing side (committing ad hominem), or just merely contradicting the opposition doesn't make an argument... therefore has not place in the PPD. Please kindly escort yourself out.

From the actual discussion itself... it takes a male and a female to procreate and if both parties consent to sex (and vaginal penetration), they should also bear the consequence when birth controls fails. Saying that "if you don't want a child, don't ejaculate into a woman" only place the blame on the shoulders of men.

[–]abicus43431 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Like I said, you either don't understand English or you didn't read the thread.

[–]KrispyMcSockingtonPillar of the community8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

If consent to sex doesn't imply consent to be a parent for a woman, why is it for a man?

The solution to inequality is not to tell people not to do something, it is to give them equal rights.

This is like telling black people to stop going to white beaches. Sure, the law says so but it is neither fair nor can anyone claim it to be true equality. Giving men a choice in whether they want to be parents or not will not limit women's choices. They can still choose to be moms.

[–]abicus43435 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

Why is it so hard for a grown man to just not ejaculate his sperm into a woman's vagina if he doesn't want to have a baby?

And I'm not sure what your point is anyway, the discussion was about why men hate single mothers and my point was that at least single mothers are trying to take care of their children, show them a little respect for doing that much at least, the fathers aren't doing anything at all. Disrespecting all single mothers just for being single mothers is harsh, it takes two irresponsible people to create a baby outside of a committed relationship not just one.

[–]BeyondTheLight7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Why is it hard for a woman with unilateral choice not to exercise said unilateral choice? Sex doesn't necessarily mean that a baby needs to come out of it (these days anyway) and if you do we might as well return to the middle age, wherr nothing is supposedly in our control. People need to stop acting like being a sperm donor means that you have some kind of power over deciding whether you want children or not. For good reason mind you. Their body, their responsibility IMO.

[–]abicus43431 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Once again....what is your point? How is it relevant to this discussion?

[–]BeyondTheLight5 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Well that they have almost a 100% control over the situation and decide to bring children into a "less than optimal" environment, so that is on those mothers. Having a baby isn't the same as having a gold fish.

[–]abicus43432 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Don't ejaculate into a woman's vagina and you are %100 guaranteed to not have a baby. What other irresponsible men and women do with their bodies is on them, you don't need to worry about it.

[–]BeyondTheLight5 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I get how biology works. It is still unreasonable that someone who has 100% of the power doesn't get 100% of the responsibility. If someone doesn't get any choice than it isn't his or her fault. We as humans are pretty capable of nuance. I mean we don't chain black people or beat/rape women en mass anymore. See how unreasonable my last sentence sounded?

Edit: also based on your last comment, since "it is on them" let us act like it is then.

[–]abicus43432 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

He did have a choice, he had %100 of the choice to not ejaculate in a vagina, easy.

Again, what's your point? Men don't have any responsibility, that's why there are so many single mothers. The fathers fucked off and took zero responsibility. So if men are saying single mothers are disgusting human beings not even good enough to date or treat with a little respect well l feel the same way about dead beat dads, I wouldn't date one of them either, they've proven to be irresponsible losers. I don't want anything to do with a guy that has so little self control he cant even avoid knocking up a woman. Pathetic.

[–]BeyondTheLight3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah I think rhey are losers too. Both of them actual. Women for not being capable of thinking ahead and being selfish like that. Men for the fact that they are morons who lack said self-control initially. I just don't believe in thr notion that someone gets to be selfish (when they have all the tools to solve the problem) and that the other person gets to pay for it (literally) for 18 years. It is just bizarro world.

[–]abicus43431 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Thats what i said from the start but you keep beating this dead horse about men blah blah blah, i don't care. Anyone that cant control their own bodies to the point that they cant stop themselves from making one of the biggest mistakes in life by just being slightly responsible with their bodies are total losers. I'm just tired of the trope of single moms are 'low life pieces of shit' as though the fathers are not equally irresponsible losers. If you can't even do that one little thing then I'm sorry, I have no sympathy for you and you get what you deserve.

[–]BeyondTheLight3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

To be honest putting yourself into debt doesn't make yourself a hero by the far stretch of it. In fact getting into a debt makes you stupid. The equivalent of that debt is having a child in this case. That is coming from a person who had a mother raising her children for the last 10 years alone. She was smart enough to have them in a unstable/unsure situation. She considered all the angles, that is the first thing you should do as a mother. Just trying is not enough. If she can't take care of them properly, then putting the child at some doorstep might be the best thing she could do until she is in a stable situation again.

[–]abicus43431 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Sure. Not really what this discussion was about though.

[–]BeyondTheLight3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That is why those women are seen as "sub human trash" though. It doesn't happen in a vacuum.

[–]abicus43432 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Dude, you are just going circles, my point is the men are sub-human trash also then, it takes two to make a baby.

[–]BeyondTheLight3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah and that logic isn't sound as one could end it all from the get go and doesn't decide to do so. Men are children at that point in time, because they get no say im whether to keep the child or not. You can't really blame a person if they don't have the power to stop it. (Yes yes I get the lame argument that he could also not fuck and ect.) So I don't think I am going in circles, but you rather are. One has unilateral choice, one doesn't. It isn't rocket surgery. Your he could also not fuck argument is akin to "we could nuke the world, so no one suffers anymore, as all humans will be dead". It is not reasonable.

[–]abicus43431 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I never said 'not fuck'. Jesus, are u a teenager? This conversation is beyond boring now. Good luck with your bastard children if you don't know how to have sex without getting a woman pregnant, lol. Good night.

[–]BeyondTheLight3 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah nice assumptions there, also it seems like a weird thing to get stuck on. Whatever even with condoms off my argument still stands.

[–]abicus43431 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

[–]squidracer 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To broad of a definition. The number of married women who's husbands leave are a small majority of single moms.

Over 50% aren't married to begin with. 70% of the remainder it's the woman that files for divorce

Then the woman should've used her telepathic skills to determine whether or not he'd be a deadbeat at the very beginning. It's her fault he left.

TRPers don't believe that men should be responsible for anything involving conception or birth because they're not the ones giving birth (and also, they seek to absolve men of responsibility in as many situations as possible). pretty sure they don't care when or if dad leaves; it's entirely the woman's fault, for having given birth to children conceived with such an unreliable man.

(poor dad is still on the hook for birth control though; what an unfair world.)

The problem with this argument is that feminist and other pro-choice often stats this slogan "her body, her choice"... which is problematic because it means that the male often doesn't get a choice whether he wants the baby or not (and are often told that if he doesn't want kids he should have use protection... except we all know that it isn't 100% foolproof)

Choices always comes with responsibility... if women wanted to sololy have the choice on whether to bear the child, the should then also bear the same responsibilities of raising that child.

[–]SockSage 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (26 children) | Copy Link

Men have the choice to engage in sex and use birth control.

Why do independent women insist on men financing their choices for them?

[–]future_space_boobs 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

this is why Colorado is subsidizing IUD's and it's working like a charm. I don't know why more women don't get them. but back to more common methods...

you know when a condom fails... if used correctly, it's unlikely but you'll know when you take it off. you can hedge your bets by pulling out too. if it rips or falls off you should have plan B on hand, crisis avoided.

neither of you will know if birth control failed until that positive pregnancy test shows up. if your girl weighs more than 135lbs and is on ultra low dose (most commonly prescribed) it's surprisingly common. if she has been sick or had diarrhea recently... also common. if she forgot a dose. why would either party risk it? if I was a guy and a chick I didn't know told me not to use a condom I'd show her the door.

Good to know. If I had a talk with a girlfriend about birth-control right now, I would have been reluctant to recommend IUD because of my friend's story. I wouldn't want her to go through any pain. But if it's really not common, great.

I personally think IUD's should be advocated to teenagers

Agree. It's strange because as you say, most people choose between forms of birth control without even thinking of IUD. And I have no idea why.

of course the tradcons who control every federal legislative body in the US would never go for it because somethingsomething sluts.

Funny, because there's nothing like slut-shaming tradcons here in Germany. We don't have stuff like abstinence-only sex-ed. People would laugh about the idea of abstinence-only sex-ed if it was brought up.

And yet, IUDs aren't common here.

if she doesnt want kids for at least 5 years and doesn't want the side effects or responsibility of birth control she should consider it. "fire and forget," as they say.

the sad thing is that people who live in blue states (which is most major population centers) don't know what's going on down here. they can glibly or even ironically (in the case of Trump) support tradcon candidates without thinking about the snowball effect it has on us down here. the brainwashing is real and thorough, people around here don't realize the extent to which they're voting against their own interests.

"young people shouldn't be promiscuous" is a fine statement, as is "we should bring coal mining back so that any man who can pick up a shovel can get a good paying job" but neither of those things are ever going to come to fruition so we need to plan for the world we have... reliable birth control for young people and subsidies to bring new industries into the area.

or, you know, we could wax nostalgic while we let our small towns spiral deeper into single parenthood, meth, and disability check wastelands.

anyway I'm on a rant.

and doesn't want the side effects or responsibility of birth control she should consider it.

Interesting, because many girls and women I knew took the pill even when they were single and had no intention of having sex because of the positive side effects. It helped some with acne (helped a lot), others had less cramps during their periods and a lot of them mentioned bigger boobs.

The positive side effects could be a reason why IUDs aren't popular here, now that I think about it.

I am aware of the negative side-effects, too, but for many women I know the positives seem to outweigh the negatives.

the sad thing is that people who live in blue states (which is most major population centers) don't know what's going on down here. they can glibly or even ironically (in the case of Trump) support tradcon candidates without thinking about the snowball effect it has on us down here. the brainwashing is real and thorough, people around here don't realize the extent to which they're voting against their own interests.

That sounds terrifying. : (

"young people shouldn't be promiscuous" is a fine statement

Haha, not fine at all.

You know that I am probably the biggest slut-shamer on this subreddit, but even I wouldn't make a statement like that on a political level. Non-promiscuity should be a decision everybody makes on their own. It has no place in politics. Even if it meant less sluts (my dream), I would be against it.

I can't wrap my head around the idea of a tradcon politician who preaches non-promiscuity. They would be laughed and booed off stage here.

or, you know, we could wax nostalgic while we let our small towns spiral deeper into single parenthood, meth, and disability check wastelands.

It's definitely a problem of the lower class here.

Those are risks you accept when you have sex. Why do men expect their actions to have no consequences? Take some personal responsibility for your dick.

[–]KrispyMcSockingtonPillar of the community0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

My argument was about what protection men have if they do take responsibility but it fails or it is sabotaged.

There is no law protecting a man from being deceived into parenting, such as if she lied about birth control. Or if she fishes his used condom out of the trash to then impregnate herself. Women are willing to lie about birth control to get pregnant and they have the final say on whether a kid gets born or not. Why do men bot get a say in whether they want to be parents or not?

We don't tell women to stop having sex, but we are more than willing to tell men to keep it in their pants. There is no protection for men who want to do the same things women do and want the same choices women have. This is discrimination.

[–]SockSage 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]KrispyMcSockingtonPillar of the community1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mentioned sabotage, in case you think my argument is about men fucking without protection. That condom will not help if she fishes it out of the trash to impregnate herself. There is no protection for men when this happens. Men know about condoms. Telling them to use one is not the solution to unequal laws and is treating them like children.

this is just proving what i said. you refuse to see any part that the man had in creating the child, or any situation in which he might even partially be at fault for also not being careful, or might just be a crap human being. instead, you only focus on the woman's ability to give birth or have an abortion, and make the entire process her fault if it doesn't go perfectly. this isn't even bringing in the efforts of so many male politicians trying to shut down access to the kind of healthcare centers that would help women get the birth control and/or abortions that they need in order to avoid single motherhood if they end up with an unwanted pregnancy.

Men are more logical than women. Sadly, we assume women are just as logical. Which is why we would wrongly assume a woman wouldn't want to bring an unplanned child into the world without a proper household, father figure, finances, etc.

[–]prodigy2throw#Transracial1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Men are logical just gullible. We assume no woman would be retarded enough to have a kid without having a proper home or means to provide for it.

It's assumed that women will abort that mistake. There is literally zero reason for single moms to exist the only reason they do is because society coddles them and treats women like children.

[–]SmeggingRightGot flair? Hell yeah![🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Gullible = illogical. Not exactly, but pretty close.

And when you assume you make an ass of yourself. It's illogical to assume that a pregnancy can't happen. It's illogical to assume that all women will have an abortion when the world around you clearly demonstrates otherwise.

You are trying to coddle men and make children out of us.

[–]prodigy2throw#Transracial1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]SmeggingRightGot flair? Hell yeah![🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Annnnndddd then many men turn around and call women murderers for doing so.

I respect the woman's own beliefs about abortion. So much that I'm not going to tempt fate and go bareback even if she says she'd have an abortion. Because people can change their beliefs when they're actually in the middle of a circumstance.

No doctor is ever going to have go up inside my willy and pull out an aborted baby. I never have to confront that. I'm man enough not to put a woman through it or for her to make the decision. If a woman does get pregnant and decides to have the baby, it's not "retarded". Maybe she's just soft and maternal.

TRPs are always saying how they want women to be maternal and soft, yet when it benefits you, you don't want them to be.

[–]oneandforall 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

dead beat dad took off and left his family high and dry it's the woman's fault for her circumstances?

Did the woman have the child out of wedlock? If he wouldn't commit to her without children, what makes her think he'll commit when she makes the choice to have his child?

[–]abicus43430 points1 point2 points 9 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link

Then don't have a child with a woman out of wedlock. Simple. Both men and women are responsible for the bad choices they make, not just women.

[–]oneandforall 1 point1 point1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

But women have complete authority over whether to have a child. Men don't.

[–]abicus43430 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Then they should be even more careful to not knock up random women then shouldn't they? I have no sympathy for idiots with no self control, they deserve what they get.

[–]oneandforall 1 point1 point1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure there's this common feminist motto that goes something like "MY BODY, MY CHOICE!". If women want complete autonomy over their bodies, then they need to take responsibility for the repurcussions.

It's a woman's choice to use her birth control correctly. It's a woman's choice to abort or adopt. You act like its 1850 and we lack modern medicine.

In the reverse situation where a woman wants to abort, but the man doesn't want her to, the woman still gets to decide. Her body, her choice. But the flip side of that is she is ultimately responsible for bringing a child into the world.

It doesn't have to be "some idiot with no self control". It could be a guy with a woman he's been briefly dating who doesn't take her birth control correctly. He thought she was on the pill, she screwed it up. He isn't ready for a baby and she knows it, but doesn't care.

I have complete control over my decision to bring a child into the world. I've made it abundantly clear to my boyfriend that I am not ready have a child (nor is he) and would not have one out of wedlock. I've taken necessary precautions (an IUD). In the very, very unlikely event that it were to fail, I'd have an abortion. My body, my choice.

I also don't understand how a woman can think it's a good idea to have a child when the father doesn't want one. Its reckless and selfish and shows a complete disregard for anyone else involved, both the father and the potential child.

[–]abicus43430 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Go back and read my origional comment. You obviously are wanting to argue this point for whatever reason. I don't care about this, I think both people, men or women, that are irresponsible enough to have children by accident are morons. Dead beat dads and single mothers have made huge mistakes in life obviously, but villifying only the women is shortsighted. If you were to look into my post history and see what I feel about women being irresponsible about birth control then you wouldn't be wasting your time arguing this with me. No one is absolving women here, but everyone seems to want to absolve the men as just innocent victims. Sorry, that won't fly with me. You cum inside a woman, you take the risks of that behavior.

[–]oneandforall 1 point1 point1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If a woman says, "I really want to have a child, I don't care if it's with you or anyone else" and the man still goes through with it, then the man is an idiot and should be held responsible. But I'm guessing that isn't a common occurrence.

[–]abicus43430 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Same as when a man is in a relationship with a woman, says he loves her, wants to have the baby and then fucks off after it's born because it's not fun anymore. There are all kinds of situations so just judging all single mothers as sub-human trash is nasty and I have no tolerance for that shit. It takes two to make a baby and in the end I have more respect for the parent that actually sticks around to try and raise it then the one that abandons it. Dont want a baby, be a responsible adult and dont have one, end of story.

Research from a leading US think tank that actually takes the time to report this data.

Child poverty is an ongoing national concern, but few are aware of its principal cause: the absence of married fathers in the home. According to the U.S. Census, the poverty rate for single parents with children in the United States in 2009 was 37.1 percent. The rate for married couples with children was 6.8 percent. Being raised in a married family reduced a child’s probability of living in poverty by about 82 percent.

Here's the full report

Thanks for the Link.. but I'm looking for a study/metanalysis that was published in a journal, so I can look at how they measured they're data and what they accounted for so I can check they measured what they said they did. Thinktanks on both the left and right tend to publish this kind of stuff to push their agenda.

Also a quick google say these guys arn't really reliable when it comes to reporting the facts: http://www.accuracy.org/release/272-is-the-heritage-foundation-credible/

Edit: Linked to a more reliable website.

[–]Sunhappy_DC 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Heritage Foundation is one of the top think tanks in Washington DC. When I worked on coalitions on financial security policy for low income Americans, we worked specifically with Pew, CAP, Brookings, AEI, New America Foundation, Cato sometimes, Aspen Institute AND the Heritage Foundation.

They are legit. They use the same source data as all the other players.

[–]pIIEPurple Pill1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's important to look at causation has been established in this report. Going over it the correlation is clear, but I don't see them accounting for income. Which is really important if you're trying to say "Lack of marriage leads to Povety". (which, OP was saying)

Think-thanks always sounded like a huge place for bias to run wild. Perhaps I'm mistaken. I'm not saying their frauds or anything, but they may interrupt the data in ways its not really meant to be etc. and their history suggests that.

It seems much more likely that poor people have more reckless sex and end up single mothers than educated people have a kid alone and suddenly drop a class due to expenses.

Yeah, I think you're putting the cart before the horse here.

Think back to when almost everyone was married. Did the poor exist?

Yes or no?

Then think about what causes poverty.

Marrying up all the singles with kids isn't going to solve poverty.

OK. Take one person who is young and just scraping by or just getting started(single motherhood is overwhelmingly found in the lowest classes). Add a CHILD THIS PERSON can't afford, bam you have s POOR family. Who do you think "the poor" in the US are? It's the elderly and single mother households

Are you in the US?

Yeah but is this persons choice to have a child due to their lack of education?

Would they be able to afford an abortion if they had money? (and it was legal in their state)

and/or are they making shitty life choices because they're parents didn't raise them well enough?

I'm not saying that having a child while poor doesn't make you poorer, ofcourse it does. But that doesn't mean it's the cause of poverty. It's more accurate to say it's an exacerbating symptom.

I live in Australia.

[–]oneandforall 1 point1 point1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Would they be able to afford an abortion if they had money?

Abortion is a hell of a lot cheaper than a child. If someone can't afford the $500 for an abortion pill, how can they possibly afford to raise a child?

and/or are they making shitty life choices because they're parents didn't raise them well enough?

why does it matter why? IQ is hereditary anyways. Children raised "not well enough" will probably not raise their children very well...and the cycle continues.

Yeah that's kind of my point. (most of) The USA makes it pretty hard to get an abortion in the first place. Which could mean a lot more unwated babies.

...and the cycle continues

Yeah it sucks, I'd like to think that through decent education and welfare you can combat the cycle. Where I live (Australia) we do an alright job, but I still think the system has a long way to go.

Edit: Also IQ is around 40-60% hereditary as far as we know atm.

No, it's significantly higher...closer to an 0.8 correlation in adult children. Only stupid people would argue that IQ isn't largely hereditary.

Ok bud. No need for jabs, just having a conversation here.

Perhaps that's what studies suggested in the past, but the most recent research shows around 40-60%

A quick google confirms it.

... Another particularly interesting recent finding is that the genetic influence on measured intelligence appears to increase over time, from about 20 percent in infancy to 40 percent in childhood to 60 percent in adulthood.

Edit: Upon further investigation it seems unclear. Twin studies suggest 40-60%. But the APA claims around 70-80%, but I can't seem to find the exact study/methods they used to claim this.

I don't hate them in general. I know three and each is different. Two are cousins of mine, one had twins with an ex when she was young, her ex and her broke up amicably and he's still really active in the kids lives. Those kids are actually really well adjusted, polite, good grades in school etc.

My other cousin had a baby with a guy who already had a kid from a ONS, but he's really good with his kids. However she has become somewhat bitter, and demanding of people around her. So much so that even friends of mine who were close with her are distancing themselves.

The other I know is an evil bitch. Was in a relationship with a guy who didn't want kids. She did so she stopped the pill without telling him and poked holes in his condoms. When she got pregnant he dumped her thinking she must have cheated. Turned out nope, was his kid and he got boned for child support. She works with me and openly bragged about doing it too. Now she constantly bitches about her ex for not wanting to spend time with the kid, going to the courts to overturn support etc. Don't think any guy or gal who knows those circumstances has any sympathy.

Most single mothers are not widows or victims of two-faced men who ran out of the blue. Most either tried to lockdown or tame a man via a unilateral pregnancy or were simply too stupid to use contraception*. Oh and there are also single mothers who separate from the father for petty reasons, just like in regular divorce nowadays. I find this deplorable as it not only hurts society, it hurts the child, the father and herself.

  • Yes, the man can and should use contraception too. And we always tell men. However, women have way, way higher level of reproductional control and thus a higher degree of responsibility. What I'm gathering is that I should never have sex on the off-chance that I get pregnant and my boyfriend takes off.

[–]squidracer 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

You should probably use birth control and be fairly picky in what kind of man you have sex with yes.

[–]RockinSocksReborn 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

But birth control can fail and being picky doesn't guarantee a man is going to stay with me upon getting pregnant.

[–]squidracer 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

We both know the majority of single moms are not using birth control. And being picky will give to better odds then say, fucking a random guy at the bar.

Do I care about the majority of single mom's? No. I care about myself and how I am perceived. On the off-chance that I get pregnant and my boyfriend leaves me, or hell because divorcees don't seem to be any different, my husband leaves me, I will be hated for reasons out of my control.

[–]kick6Red Pill Man2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I brought up single moms because your odds of getting knocked up are slim if you take precautions.

Birth control can fail but doesn't make a woman a mother. To go from failing birth control to being a mother takes another four steps:

Birth control fails, and she decides 1) to not take a plan B, 2) use a pregnancy test to monitor her status if she doesn't take a plan B, 3) not abort if she does become pregnant, and 4) not give up a child for adoption if she doesn't abort.

Becoming a mother in the modern world - especially with the social and financial aid given to women and especially single mothers - is a conscious and deliberate decision.

To follow up with a counter-argument that a lot of single mothers aren't very good at making conscious decisions, I agree. I have yet to meet a single mother that didn't make a series of consistently bad choices in life. I have around half a dozen first-hand accounts and there are plenty of online anecdotes as well. Even if a woman isn't picky and fucks the first hundred men that offer she still has to choose to become a mother or pointedly ignore the choices she (and mother nature) is already making.

[–]purpleppparmchair evo psych0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well since you're a virgin, I'm assuming you're not going to be on the pills your first time. So use a condom. If the condom breaks, you will know and then go for plan B. Pretty minimal risk of pregnancy that way. If you get pregnant, you can abort. It's rare for a condom to break if you store it correctly.

[–]kick6Red Pill Man0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Nobody guaranteed you that sex would be without risk. You have the option of not having it if the 1% chance of pregnancy is too much for you.

It's only too much for me because there's so much hatred for single mothers. Why would I even take the chance if I'm going to be despised?

[–]kick6Red Pill Man0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Risk vs reward. Properly vet whomever you're letting impregnate you, and the risk is low compared to the reward.

Virtually nothing in this world is risk free, and it's a travesty to suggest that you're either not going to do a single thing on this earth because there's risk or that society needs to change to remove the risk for you.

[–]sublimemongrelBecky, Esq.1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not if it's been fully adopted, as she's given up all legal rights and obligations. What would most likely happen in the case where she wants to give it up for adoption and he wants to keep it would be: he'd sue her for paternity/custody, win (assuming he's fit and she's consistent in not contesting custody), and then he could seek child support from her, despite the fact that she wanted to adopt the kid out. At least that's how I imagine it would play out, I've only worked on one adoption case myself and it was different circumstances.

If, OTOH, the adoption has already taken place and bio dad finds out afterwards, I'm not sure how that would play out. Adoptive parents would probably win although this isn't an area I've practiced enough IRL to say that with certainty.

[–]Subway_Bernie_Goetz0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Guys usually don't go from responsible to deadbeat as soon as their women get pregnant. Every single mom that I know knew her man was no good before they got pregnant. If you are just having protected sex, you can do whatever you want and not be judged. But if you are having unprotected sex, then it isn't just about your sexual preferences- you must also take into account whether the guy is likely to stick around if you get pregnant. Because you're not just choosing a sexual partner, you are choosing a father for your child. If you selfishly and irresponsibly choose for a father someone who won't fulfill the role of fatherhood, people will judge you for that. And there's nothing wrong with that.

[–]RockinSocksReborn 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

And when birth control fails?

[–]Subway_Bernie_Goetz0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Then you are one of the few unlucky ones. That is a risk, deal with it. Sex is inherently risky. Most single moms weren't unlucky, they were just dumb.

[–]RockinSocksReborn 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That's my point though. If I'm going to be so brutally hated for being unlucky, why would I bother?

[–]Subway_Bernie_Goetz0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Brutally hated? No, but there is a small chance that you can do everything right, still end up as a single mom, and have people who don't know your situation dismiss you as yet another irresponsible single mom. People are allowed to generalize. They might not be right 100% of the time, but their right to their opinion about single moms > your right to be perceived how you want to be perceived.

Why would you bother doing what? Having sex? Or trying not to be a single mom? If you are saying that you might as well not try to be responsible just because there's a small chance that you could be a single mom despite being responsible and have people unfairly judge you as irresponsible, then you are not a responsible person.

[–]RockinSocksReborn 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sometimes, single moms happen (widows, etc), HOWEVER....it's not good for the fucking kids, and we should never...ever...celebrate it. Do I hate single moms? No, I hate the culture that thinks they're fucking heros for abusing their children by depriving them of a 2 parent household.

Yeah, I hate them, but that's not a hate based out of ignorance. I was raised by a single mother from ~age 8 up until I got my driver's license. Once I had the capacity to leave, I left.

Now, I love my mom, dearly. We still stay in contact and every time I'm on the east coast I see her.

My mom was a "single mom" because my mom and dad divorced after 11 years. I wasn't born out of wedlock. Both my parents had above average intelligence, both were civilian contractors working for the federal government. My mom even has an advanced degree in computer science. Even with all that privilege, the situation we were placed in, being raised by a single mom, was extremely difficult.

My mom had no choice but to neglect us, because there wasn't enough hours in the day to do what needed to be done. As a kid, being raised by a single mom isn't like being raised by a single parent, it's being raised by no parent. She's constantly exhausted, you're constantly alone. There is no love or guidance in the critical years.

Do I want to see any other kid in that situation? No, absolutely not. So when a woman either purposefully creates that situation or doesn't care enough to prevent it from happening, I see it as negligence, selfishness, incompetence, and even child abuse. And I absolutely hate child abuse.

No. I just think they are cancer for society.

Kind of off topic, but I find it amusing to note that single moms generally raise beta males, but the better the mother is the more beta the male is. They seem to have an entirely destructive influence on the son in terms of his manliness, without a male figure for guidance.

I don't hate them. Most people at TRP don't hate them, despite Illimitable Man's famous post that Blues love to run up the flagpole. Which isn't even really a hate piece. Calling someone subhuman scum isn't hate, if the persons being called subhuman scum truly are subhuman scum. It's also not hatred to exhort men not to date single mothers, nor to report what's true of single moms generally.

I think its fucked up that so many women choose to force men into parenthood without their consent. Women have all the power to choose whether a child is born, and they bear the responsibility for those decisions. Men cant take birth control, cant take plan b, cant get abortions, and they certainly cant force a woman to prevent child birth with these methods, either. With power comes responsibility.

Mostly, im just disappointed in the single moms ive met because their choice to have kids in a bad situation put their children at a huge disadvantage. The vast majority of single moms arent victims of evil men who deceived them and ditched them after the child was born. Most single moms ive met chose to have children with men who didnt want to have kids with them, or with men who were clearly bad candidates as good fathers.

Perhaps we should teach women that they need to get a mans enthusiastic consent to procreate before forcing him to become a father. That would solve a lot of social ills in a single generation.
