My girlfriend of 4 years made roughly $15,000 before taxes for the month of January. I cleared roughly $3000. I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t wear on me at times, but we were together when we both had nothing and worked our way to this point. If she had been doing that when I met her, I probably would have been intimidated to say the least. I’m basically her sugar baby now even though we’re both 22. The expensive gifts and constant dinners make me uncomfortable because I can’t match that in the slightest. I have to wonder if it’s the societal pressure to be the provider or if it’s a deeper insecurity within myself. A dynamic like this can certainly change some things within the relationship, it has been a mental challenge to adjust to.

I know quite a few.couples like this but they key thing is the guy still makes well. They are usually in a similar bracket. I haven't seen it where the guy is like a barista and the woman is a manager or whatnot. And it's very rare in the reverse as well. Couples are usually in the same class or socioeconomic bracket usually.

For GF material, not at all. If anything, it's a nice plus but not important nor a determining factor for anything.

That being said, I would care a lot if I, by an off chance see her as wife material, depending on how she personally and culturally views money in a marriage. Though most of you would disagree, I see marriage a lot more of an integrated union. Meaning I'm all for the "what's mine is theirs and what's theirs is mine" way of living regardless of who makes more money. If she's not about that then marriage will probably be a no deal. I just don't see a point if we're that individualistic. Let's just stay fuck buddy roomies.

Another issue is if she uses money as a means to leveraging power in the relationship. I've seen a lot of those issues in r/relationships.

The last concern I'd have is if her attraction towards me would be affected if I never happen to earn more than her. I know that's an issue with some women though many wouldn't admit.

Not at all. Here's the thing: women who make a lot of money usually have to adopt male social roles. And they're eager to get out of them in private, but often quite incapable of letting go in public. Tends to end in weird relationship dynamics, which leave them essentially unfulfilled. For the most part no. I make a solid income, so if she made a little more than me it wouldnt be a big deal. If she made a lot more than me, it would be a totally different lifestyle/background that would put her in the ultra wealthy category, and that could have some impact, but more due to the difference in social circles and family expectations than any self-worth issue.

How they make it is a minor consideration, but on the whole, I don't think I'd find a woman more or less attractive on the back of earning more than me. More or less a non-issue in that regard.

It's a yellow flag, though. It might mean they have a huge workload and would have a lot less time to spend with me than a woman who doesn't work/earn as much. It might mean they'll cost more to keep up with lifestyle-wise and I don't care for that. It might mean they're a trust fund kid, so they might be spoilt, etcetc. Definitely a question mark for a relationship.

Not an issue personally as long as we both like each other.

But unfortunately, its 2020. The concept of trust is basically non existent here. Despite my non issues, I deliberately made it a point to be more strict with my preferences if a woman made more than me. Meaning she has to have corresponding feminine friendly responsible behaviors along with that extra cash. Is she the kind of woman who's flexible with the gender role reversal in potential bad circumstances?

As you can see, the gender roles here is in a bit of free fall with this money disparity from women here. Women absolutely love to claim they want to "break the patriarchy" or "break gender roles", same with a laundry list of other virtue signalling tag lines, but... actually speaking, they only wanted that for women only NOT for men... which is one of my sad facts I learned over the past 10 years.

TL;DR-- Personally no, but practically its basically a yes due to setting high preferences for a woman making more than me.
