Can confirm! Closed on a house the day after I left, a month or so after that I got a raise. Another month later I got a second raise and doubled my income. If there are no men good enough for me, so be it I guess!

I hadn’t even made it a problem that he made half as much as me with no aspirations. I would have kept him anyway. While I agree, it does show how much women give up or put on hold during a relationship. I think it should be taken as a note to keep striving towards your own goals and making new goals even while in a relationship instead of doing it to cope with a breakup.

This tweet helped me get some perspective when I was fresh out of a painful breakup. After the breakup I had 4 grad school acceptances (1 with full tuition funding), and a promotion + raise at work. I have so much going for me--I shouldn't be hung up on a guy.

I actually dumped the only true long term relationship that I had and immediately doubled my income at a new job. I did dump him specifically because I thought he was dragging my career down. I had just gotten laid off and I couldn't even bear the thought of another job hunt while listening to his boomer-ass job advice.

The last breakup also corresponded with a 5k raise and a promotion. I guess I'm in the habit of shedding dead weight when I'm ready for a life transition.
