I only know one heterosexual man who takes care of his skin. Face wash and moisturiser. He's not in a fancy office job or anything either, he is a tradesman. His skin looks good despite having a pretty stressful life. It's sad that men think taking care of their skin is feminine or whatever. I can't imagine not ever exfoliating let alone washing my face with body wash or bar soap.

My ex messaged me once on LinkedIn bc I had him blocked everywhere else & really wasn’t thinking about LI. Well he writes me a long paragraph saying his new lady friend got mad at him when she saw him using MY LA MER LOTION. Gotcha bitch, I knew he hid that lotion when I was removing my stuff from his house because I kept everything together and neat!Anyways, I guess they were washing their faces together..cute....and she pulled out a lotion and he said I have my own☠️ I’m sure the girl KNEW his ass did not purchase La Mer. So yeah. I never expect much from guys in the skincare category unless there was a woman before then who hammered it into their heads.

Skincare is a green flag for me. My husband and I both take care of our skin, use sunscreen and have complex routines. I don't like clean shaven men but long beards upset me too, so well shaped, maintained and short beards are important to me.

I honestly can't understand how they can see their skin all dry and filled with blackheads and still refuse to invest in a basic skin care. (And of course believe that they'll age like fine wine)

I started doing skincare and led therapy to my brother during the lockdown and compared to his friends he looks like a damn teen

I'm 36 and every time I hear a man talk about women hitting the 'wall', I look around at guys my age and wonder what happened, and why they all look so old in comparison. As soon as men hit 30 it all goes to hell, while women look amazing and fresh well into their 60s. The secret? FUCKING SPF, IT'S NOT HARD GUYS. PUT SOME ON. Maybe even wash your face with something other than the same bar soap y'all used to (maybe, not likely) wash your ass.

The bar for men really is in hell.

UGGHH yes. Its so sad the only guy i knew with a skincare routine was my ex. Every other guy I've dated or guys i know dont really have a routine. They maybe...MAYBE wash their face with whatever and don't moisturize half the time. On OLD one guy joking told me guys dont care about that stuff and he doesn't wash his face...i unmatched real quick

I lost a lot of my attraction towards my ex because of this. He couldn't really grow facial hair, but his light stubble along with lack of skincare really irritated me. I always got rashes wherever his face was and I could barely stand him kissing me by the end. Exfoliating isn't that hard 😭

I am also super into skincare! When I still did OLD, I put "I'll help you create a skincare routine" in my bio as a conversation starter. I would get matches and give them the bare bones routines as a suggestion and most of the time, they'd end the conversation with "that's too much work."

If washing your face and putting on sunscreen in the AM is "too much work," you're not good enough for me. That kind of laziness is unacceptable.

I've been moisturizing religiously since my pre-teens my toddler is now learning that moisturizing is part of the daily routine.

Have you ever been to someone's house and they don't have several different forms of face/hands/body lotion? Savage.

Ughhh my ex has been blessed with amazing genetics in the skin department. He literally rinses his face in the shower and uses absolutely zero other products and doesn’t change his pillowcase ever and his skin looks better than 95% of the people I know. This also means he never uses soap on his facial hair. He’s also generally anti-soap because it will “hurt his microbiome”.

It was the most annoying thing because - (1) germs = vagina not happy, which I tried to explain to him and he argued that it wasn’t his fault because you couldn’t physically see the dirt on him, no matter that he would go to the gym and let his dong dry in the sweat then come home and want to fuck. I got a UTI like once every 2 weeks while taking all possible UTI mitigation measures that were within my control. Now I get no UTIs without taking the cranberry pills and whatnot. - (2) I have high maintenance skin and it doesn’t look as good as his even though I put effort into it and he kept mansplaining to me how I should be caring for my skin.

It's so weird to me how many men do not use lotion, even sun screen. At least for their face. When I've been on dating apps I saw a lot of men the same age as I am, who looked years older. A lot of it probably has to do with the years of never using any sunscreen, or lotion, drinking beer, not washing their hands and just generally not giving a shit about their health at all. I'm so surprised when I find out a guy doesn't take any vitamins or supplements. There's no way he's getting all his nutrients off meat and potatoes lol

It really bothers me because I look 10 years younger, and because I would prefer to date someone who at looks my age, many of the men in my age group aren't very attractive. I think it all boils down to how they take care of their body

For sure. When I was 30 I dated another 30yo, he looked 40, I looked 20. We went out with his 2 teenaged kids, I was mistaken for his 3rd kid.

I dont understand how anyone avoids washing their face especially after you worked out or were outside in the heat... or just take you facemask off after a long day and you can feel all that grease and sweat on your face! It's so uncomfortable!

It has been very humid lately where I live and I started bringing facial wipes in my purse with me. I have started going into the bathrooms and unmasking and wiping off the chin stickiness!

A lot of companies including dove have made their own "men" lines of products they are sold at most cvs and walmart locations and inexpensive. Any man that goes out to pickup something he needs for the house or groceries can get an affordable and effective face wash and moisturizer while he is there. Wearing a hat and sunscreen are other cheap and easy ways to help your skin from aging when out in the sun.

I think the demographics of the men in relation to skincare matters because some of the guys I’ve met do have good skincare routines. But of course, there’s an overwhelmingly good amount of guys that don’t care.

Mid-twenties, unemployed with two pets, but had a small collection of expensive skincare including Drunk Elephant (which I heard is overrated?).
Mid-twenties, engineer, with basic male skincare (like Bulldog age defense serum). Two types of cleanser to choose between: lemon or aloe vera. It’s not much, but I am appreciative when I see they care about skincare. So attractive.
Mid-twenties, in private equity, and had sooo many different types of skincare products. (But he had a big bottle of sunscreen for BOTH face and body…) He was suffering from chronic cheek acne, so that must’ve have been an influence. I was excited to see someone who knew and took part in skincare, like Clinique. One of the most confident, attractive guys I’ve dated.
Thirty, in finance, and only skincare routine was using a bar of soap on his face. Same bar of soap he uses for body. Only reason I know is because I asked him. Also the only guy that kept a beard. Lost interest in him early on.
Early-twenties, student, only used aloe-vera cleanser. Refused sunscreen when I offered it to him. 😐 I think this guy was the most insecure about his masculinity.

Had to convince my ex to wash his face. Then he helps himself to my expensive creams. Then turns around and makes fun of the time I take to do said skincare routine.

This subreddit has been helpful in getting over my ex.
