I was just talking to someone about this in the weekly check in. I couldn’t even finish this show. Vanessa was was beautiful, smart, successful, assertive and she was a total pickme. I’ve been that woman (but never ever to the point of proposing) and I can only hope this reminds us we should not put up with something like this. After 4 years man. Daniel literally started a rebound romance with Noa the night that Vanessa proposed. What a shitty plot but I guess it is realistic in some way.

This show was pure male projection and fantasy. Written by a man. Directed by a man. There’s the “desperate girl” pitted against the “cool girl”. Noa was just so non-materialistic and laid back and ~not like other girls~ 🙄🤮Both of the main female characters are two-dimensional projections of women. Written. By. MEN. Please do not take these female characters as actual representations of how women are—take them as a cautionary tale that this is really how most men think.

Man strings along and dates woman for years without proposing ✅

She’s worth more than him (literally a successful real estate agent) yet she’s begging for the bare minimum. ✅

She proposed because it’s EmPoWeRiNg 🤡 and gets rejected ✅

He then breaks up with her once he starts nearing 30 and realises he won’t be able to pull like he used to. (Not sure if this applies here, but it’s often how it goes.)

Then he finds his next upgrade and marries her on the spot. ✅

I have zero interest in the show if the protagonist is this trash guy, but I'm glad fiction is finally catching up to modern life. It has only taken a whole generation. I hope we will see more shows that at least acknowledge that most men are are time wasters.

I have a female proposal pick me ghastly horror story. It's so bad I don't even know if I want to type it out. But it was a friend from college and I was moh and I didn't know that she proposed until the day of the wedding. The cool girl shit eating grin on her face when she explained that she asked him to marry her while they were doing anal.... Ugh. I lost all respect for her.

They're still together despite her alcoholism and numerous attempts at infidelity. 2 kids, now I think they swing to make her attention seeking permissable, and smiling pics plastered on Facebook. It's very cringey to see knowing what I know behind the scenes. I hope her daughter never finds out all the bullshit and has some good female role models in her life to learn to respect herself.

Just tonight I was scrolling through Netflix looking for something to watch and the preview scene for this movie played. It was this exact scene and I was about to turn it on until I looked closely at the pic and realized the man was the main character.

I was so irritated! I thought it was going to be about this pickmeisha's reformation and leveling up after this rock bottom proposal moment, not this LVM's predictable rebound.

Sidenote: the rejected girl's post-proposal monologue was really good and was the reason I thought she was going to be the main character. I'd have watched the hell out of that version.

This show is based on an Israeli show of the same name. I watched both seasons of the Israeli show and the misogyny displayed was off the charts. I have no idea if the US show has less or not. But they particularly enjoyed making Vanessa’s character a PickMe but every time she did something for herself it would fail and she’d revert to her PickMe behavior.

The main guy and his brother were gross in their behavior toward women. Another typical show with no redeeming male characters.

I was thinking of posting about this show. I’m glad he and Vanessa didn’t get back together and she got with someone successful who knew what he wanted.

So he didn’t like Vanessa bc she was “too much”? But then he got with a girl who can provide him an even bigger lifestyle that Vanessa was working for? Ugh. He’d be just a baker if this other girl didn’t swoop in and help him build himself up.

I thought this show was definitely made for men.

Ugh I couldn’t finish this show. I posted my alternate proposal script on the weekly discussion thread, but here’s how I think the show could have and SHOULD have went:

The roles are reversed and Vanessa is the one who meets Noa in the bathroom. Noa swoops her up for the best night of her life, they become friends, and Noa helps Vanessa see how successful, beautiful, and great she is. It becomes a female empowerment show instead of the garbage it was. I hope one day Hollywood changes...

Man I'm tired of people/TV shows doing the proposal but the other person doesn't know/expect it. Don't propose unless a conversation has been had about whether yes will be the answer. I feel like sometimes these public proposals are selfish and manipulative. I'm not sure if it relates to the show I haven't seen it. If I was put in this position I would feel like I at least had to say yes until we were in private, but still how embarrassing.

I imagine in this show and from the comments it's a forever gf type situation? This is probably her last ditch attempt to salvage their relationship/tie him down. Don't do it sis! 😣

I mean, yes, after 4 years of relationship it's absolutely normal to want to be married. On the other hand, a public proposal without previous discussion of marriage (correct me if I'm wrong in this case, I haven't seen the show) can be considered manipulative, no matter who is proposing.
