A thought I had from this comment:

All the other women in our work group look down on her and claim they don't know or want to know how to cook. Which I find funny, because if there ever was a woman that I would put a ring on...

I've noticed that (at least some) men seem to love the idea of being with a woman who is bullied by other women, especially if they perceive the reason for that bullying is jealousy. I've frequently seen men comment on other women being jealous of and mean to their partner/crush with pride.

Has anyone else observed this? What do you think is going on here?

Is it some sort of preselection - if other women feel a need to tear her down, she must be great? Saving the "damsel in distress" (although men picking on a woman doesn't seem to excite them in quite the same way)? Predatory men who are interested in women who don't have many friends and have low self-esteem? None of these feel quite right, but I've seen this behavior often enough that I feel like there has to be an explanation.

Similarly, I've noticed that some men seem to revel in women being jealous of other women. I've never seen women really care if less appealing men are jealous of attractive/successful men, but some men seem to get a perverse joy out of women being jealous of each other and even read it into situations where there is no actual jealousy. Have other people noticed this? Why do you think this happens?
