You're missing a third option. The Deadbeat Mom, the one that spits out the kid.. then less than a year later abandons the house , child and husband .. get's remarried and never contacts the child again. 3 years late on child support... yea that's my story.. single father here!

Should show the man and woman together in both panels. I dislike the phrase "got a woman pregnant". Would be better as:

This couple got pregnant. The man decided he didn't want to be a father. He's a deadbeat dad/etc.

This couple got pregnant. The woman decided she didn't want to be a mother. She's pro-choice.

Equalizes the message and the responsibility. As written, the man is responsible for the pregnancy instead of both of them.

Different outcomes. In the first pannel it's assumed the baby is born. In the second abortion is implied.

I'd say the difference is in parenthood rights.

It's not fair to compare the narrative of anger towards the man towards a narrative of support towards the woman when there are SO many people who do not support being pro-choice. She would be labeled many things including being a killer. Sometimes on her way into the clinic by protesters.

But that being said, BOTH narratives are unfair towards the individuals who have to make the incredibly uncomfortable and often painful decision of terminating a pregnancy.

Thanks for sharing the comic! Definitely an interesting topic for conversation.

So i'm not sure about the political affiliation of this subs readers, but is the point that abortion is viewed as morally acceptable, while leaving your kid isn't?

Is it that they should both be viewed as equally good? Or equally bad?

Also this may just be my opinion, but the left panel means the dad made a passive choice not to participate, where the mom made an active choice to kill the baby.

I don't think this is fair. If the child is born and the mother decides she doesn't want to be a mom anymore, I would say she would also receive the title of "deadbeat".

Two difference scenarios. It think the problem comes down to the father not having a say in an abortion. Now that is one heck of a difficult controversy, as there is not equality in biology...

They both took the risk it is their responsibility together. They have to figure it out together and pay for it together.

A strong man supports her while sue figures out what she wants nd is honest about his feelings. And yes it needs to be what she wants as she is risking her life and body by going through with the pregnancy.

I still don't really see this as a fair comparison.

This remains a situation where biological differences are really significant. I think legally a man can't have a say in abortion. If a woman gets sick, injured or dies through a pregnancy she never wanted to carry to full term and only carried through because of the man, is the man responsible for this? And there is a lot that can go wrong through pregnancy, much that isn't necessarily apparent at first. I don't see how you could ever deal with that concept in law.

Walking away from your actual child is seen as a bad thing for either sex. This is an attitude that will most likely never change in society as children are seen as vulnerable and not taking care of them is always going to be seen as a bad thing. I do think you should have a chance to give up your paternal (or maternal) rights, but I don't think this should apply in all situations.

I don't know, I agree with most things on here, but this subject. Sure it takes two to get pregnant, the woman is the one that then goes throught a huge biological change and grows an alien inside.

I feel in these situations there should be a bit more given to the women to decide. This is more of a case by case thing, and a hard law won't work most of the time.

Edit: I wonder though, if the roles were reversed what would people say? Pregnant lady wants to abort, but the father wants to keep it. She can sign off her parental rights but never see child again? I feel that would get more flack, but if a law like this passed, I feel this should be an option too.

I wish laws in the US would change, but that will never happen.

The best piece of advice I could give to another man is to not have casual hookups/don't have genital to genital sex with someone you barely know. I think the world might be a better place if more handjobs, blowjobs, fingering, eating and etc. had happened instead of genital to genital sex.

I think the left is referring to AFTER the baby is born. That's lame for either mother or father to skip out on an already born child. And people absolutely give women who get abortions a difficult time. Context is a little lacking on this one

She didn't necessarily have an abortion either - she could have put it up for adoption, or simply killed the baby and got a slap on the wrist.

In one scenario another human being is created and is brought into this world with essentially a handicap, no father to help provide for them.

In the other scenario no one else is effected besides the parties that decided not to use adequate birth control.
