This woman needs to be imprisoned for a long time.

I hate how in our society it's abuse when a man assaults woman for cheating, but when women do the same thing it's a "funny revenge story." Sickens me.

Tiger Woods anybody? I always thought what if it was the other way around and Tiger was the one chasing his wife with a bat (or whatever those golf things are called)? I don't particularly like Tiger Woods, still, that made me feel for him.

If you follow the links, this happened in Texas.

Assault is a misdemeanor with up to a 1 yr jail sentence, aggravated assault a felony with 2-10 years prison... But attacking a romantic partner or family member ramps thugs up. ("ramp things up", maybe?)

DV (either) includes an automatic 5yr ban on owning a firearm, lifetime ban outside the home, automatic protection order, possible mandatory classes and/or paying the victim's legal fees.

DV (assault) second offense is a felony with 2-10 yrs prison.

DV (aggravated assault) is a felony with a possible life sentence.

In other words, she felt confident enough she'd get away with it to film it even though she was risking life in prison.

And we live in a culture of violence against who now?

No, you have that wrong.

Men are predators and women are victims. See?

It's only victim blaming if you are holding a woman accountable for her actions.

glad I could clear that up for you.

It's one of those weird dichotomies of life.

Almost nobody would say that children have equal rights to adults. They can't (legally) vote, drink, have sex, drive, smoke, run for office, make their own informed medical decisions, practice most forms of gainful employment, utilize self-determination to decide how to spend their own time, own their own property, exercise marriage rights, have bodily autonomy (especially in terms of modification, such as tattoos or piercings)... compared to adults, children have it pretty shitty in the rights department, especially in the vein of autonomous human rights that are supposedly guaranteed to all. There is a tradeoff, however.

Likewise, almost nobody would say that children aren't one of the more, if not most, privileged classes in society, especially when compared to adults. Equivalent to almost every right they lack is a special protection waiving them from almost all forms of exercised responsibility, while granting them superior protections from even the most routine discomfiture average adults face. We don't, for example, have a legal phrase for the non-existent crime of "corrupting the adults," nor is there adult-abuse, nor is there stature-tory rape (the criminal act of having mutually willing sex with an adult over the age of consent.)

And... for pretty good reason, I'm sure we can all agree. In fact, if I had to give a layman's blanket definition for all the privileges afforded to children, I'd think it fair to say "The protections granted to children, who do not have adult rights to exercise, from those who might otherwise still treat them as adults capable of exercising said rights." Covers everything from molestation, to serving alcohol to minors, to probationary driver's permits, to curfews, to mandatory schooling.

The disconnect with feminists and the modern attitude towards women is that we grant them almost all the legal privileges of children, while also allowing them all the legal rights of adults... and woe is the fool who mistakenly crosses the two at any point, whether by saying that women should have the rights of children (that is to say, very few) or that women shouldn't have the privileges of children (that is to say, special government support, limited responsibility for their actions - especially if a nearby responsible adult man can be held accountable for those actions).

What is fascinating to observe on top of that, is that if you challenge either of those two fronts, such as by saying "women shouldn't be allowed the vote until they are eligible for mandatory drafting for civil and military service to their country, as is the case with men"... suddenly the narrative being spun is that you're attacking both of those fronts, saying that women should have all the rights of children (that is to say, practically none) and none of the protections / privileges of children. (Why do you want to legalize wife beating? Are you saying that women should get back in the kitchen and make men sandwiches? Etc.)

[–]BorisIvanovich 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why would they be upset about the power to get away with anything?

[–]ExpendableOne 42 points43 points44 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

A big reason why some of these women react in this kind of ridiculously over the top manner is because they live in a society where they feel like they can get away with anything because they are women. The fact that she tapped this, just goes to show how much she thinks her actions we're actually justified and "empowered". In her head, this isn't just not doing anything wrong, it's doing something worth filming for everyone else to see. She didn't get that mentality from nothing. Other women will cheer her on and she might get a slight tap on the wrist.

[–]mediainfidel 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Culture certainly plays a part. But I'm also curious as to how much this kind of behavior is influenced by biology, which it must be to some degree?

The ease with which far-too-many women seem unwilling or unable to empathize with men, the ease with which they can laugh at such horrifying actions is disturbing to say the least, and is so broad and embedded through society that culture alone seems an insufficient explanation.

[–]ExpendableOne 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

The inability for a lot of women to empathize with male pain is, in my personal opinion, the result of social culture/conditioning(male disposability and an indifference to male suffering) and a bi-product of women being unable to experience testicular/penile assault because they don't physically have them. The closest equivalent to setting a man's crotch on fire would be to take a scolding hot rod and shove it up a woman's vagina but no one really likes to think about it that way or feels comfortable with making that comparison.

Technically, the closest equivalent to kicking a man in the genitals would be to shove a shoe up a woman's vagina hard enough to hit both her ovaries, and people would literally consider that rape because it involves penetration(that distinction is an entirely emotional one, for the benefit of women, rather than a logical, rational, pragmatic or ethical one. The tissue that the penis is made out of is external and exposed in men, but internal in women).

Not all women are that indifferent though. There are certainly some who try to empathize with what men might be experiencing, even if they don't have any real basis to truly understand what men might be going through when suffering from any kind of genital trauma.

[–]mediainfidel 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure that lack of empathy with male penis mutilation is due wholly to women not having penises. No doubt a minor part, but I'm fairly sure that young man's mother and other female relatives have no problem being outraged about the actions taken by this violent woman.

Men and women seem to have no problem empathizing with close relations of the opposite sex in any number of sex-specific areas, from childbirth to male circumcision.

The more interesting question is, why is it so much easier for society more broadly, men included, to laugh at the sexual mutilation of male a stranger when the same would almost never happen were the genders reversed?

That's the thing, other men who also have penises find it easier to laugh at another man being sexually mutilated than a woman.

So I'm afraid your position doesn't make sense. How is it easier for men, with penises, to laugh at other men having their penises mutilated?

No. There must be another explanation and it likely lies in our nature as highly intelligent mammals.

It would still be disturbing if she was setting insects on fire though.

Sociopathic behavior is sociopathic regardless of the victim.

[–]mediainfidel -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's because men are objectified as working creatures whose purpose is to provide for them and their children.

Yes, and I'm curious about the role evolution -- our nature -- plays in this. Men are also expected, and expect to protect women who provide them offspring.

We are a sexually dimorphic species. Males are substantially more powerful than females. It's taken a long time to get there, millions of years of men protecting and often dying to protect women and their own children.

In short: nature is the primary driving force here, the nurture side can only exist within the bounds of naturally-determined parameters.

And worse, its all cyclical and self reinforcing. Her actions get sympathetic reports. These reports generate accepting views. These views result in more instances of violence.

Not to mention the regurgitation of such events in films tv and books as "funny" or empowering events. So the cycle continues, and forever will.

Until someone stand up and says no, and breaks the circle. Who will stand up?

The tone of this article, written by a female, is strongly reminiscent of the infamous Sharon Osbourne clip on the View, when the panel and a full studio audience of women laughed uproariously at a news story where a deranged woman cut off her husband's penis.

Not only do most women seem to have no empathy for men, modern women seem to actually delight in hurting men. They won't even extend empathy to little boys.

This behaviour is both childish and sadistic, like a little budding psychopath tearing the wings of flies. I suppose this is what you get when you raise an entire generation of girls with revisionist history and anti-male rhetoric.

Feminists will one day be held to account for the damage they have done to society. With the explosive growth of the MRM I suspect this may happen sooner than most think...

How long before feminists are viewed in the same manner as racists?

[–]mcavvacm 63 points64 points65 points 10 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

[–]C0uN7rY 23 points24 points25 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That and racists aren't in the mainstream if modern thought. Racists don't have major political and financial influence. Racists can't get me fired from my job. Racists don't have a death grip on our education system. Of course, with racists, there are exceptions, but with feminists, it's the rule.

[–]laudet 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's still a fair amount of racism in society, but certainly it's gotten much better over time. That's my point. Hardcore racists DID once hold massive power in American society, until fairly recently in fact. President Coolidge was a supporter of the KKK. There were Eugenics programs in every major university (just as there are now Gender Studies i.e. Man-hating studies in every major university.) It would have seemed incomprehensible in 1915 that a hundred years later there would be a black president.

Feminism will eventually go the same way as racism. There is no other possibility: the history, the ideology, the policies, the immense social harm...short of creating some sort of amazonian femocracy where all critics of feminism are shot on sight, feminism will fall.

Most people think this will happen "50 years from now" or some such. I disagree. We are living in the internet age. Feminists can no longer rely on ignorance. And men have reached our breaking point. For a sex that prides itself on stoicism and strength to be speaking out in large numbers is remarkable in itself.

Feminists obviously don't care about men and boys, nor most women for that matter, and they certainly don't care about facts and logic. But they care about their social status. Feminists reading this should understand clearly: you will soon be looked at in the same manner as aging members of the KKK, reviled by decent society, scorned and derided by your peers. Tic Toc. Your time is at hand.

I really think that people are underestimating how hardwired human beings seem to be to want to help women out.

Basically, women have a strong tendency for built-in automatic in-group preference, and men have built-in "women need/deserve my protection" tendency. This makes it EXTREMELY difficult to attack their positions at a larger - societal - level. When one tries this:

  • A large proportion of women rally behind the other female(s), just because they are female.
  • A large proportion of men rally behind women, as they've had it drilled into them that it's their absolute duty to provide assistance (up to, and including sacrificing their very lives', in some situations) to women.
  • Another large proportion of men, rally behind women, as they think it will give them a better chance at securing sexual (reproductive) access.

Seriously - if you go back and look at history, any time that women have really wanted something to change, society has changed it for them. Despite the fact that they claim men ran/run everything, they've don't seem to have any trouble - whatsoever - getting that very society to enact just about anything they want, within a minimal amount of time.

It just amazes me how many people there seem to be that all of a sudden think we have reached some sort of critical mass, and are right on the cusp of changing things. I really don't think that feminism - or, more importantly, the ideas or social constructs contained within it - is going to be as easy to assail as these people are imagining. At most, I think what we will see is it (feminism) getting rebranded into something with a different name, while still largely containing the same goals/ideas.

Evolution seems to have selected for humans that have an innate drive to protect/appease the females of the "tribe". With the exception of cultures/situations where things are in dire straits, society - as a whole - seems to do almost anything to placate the women.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The internet is a double edged sword. It can disseminate information quickly but it can also act as an echo chamber, polarizing viewpoints dramatically (tumblr)

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Another point to add is that there is are a worrying amount of feminist claiming their's is a Left wing issue while holding racist views and opinions thrmselves. Although they spin it in the traditional "I'm not racist, but.." way, they often hold extremely hateful views of all kind when you really get down to it.

And that's kind of the thing we're really realizing about feminists, and when you think about it, its not at all surprising. They are, at heart, basically pretty unbalanced, uneducated, selfish egotistical people who gravitate to similarly stupid and hateful views.

Let's remember that racism isn't just about 'non-whites'. There is plenty of racism towards whites as well.

Other racism may not seem so open to you if you've never lived in a non-White community. I live in an Asian community and their racism is very visible, much more so than white racism in the white community I've experienced. This is largely because their culture doesn't discourage it in any way.

Feminists will one day be held to account for the damage they have done to society.

As much as feminism has negatively impacted society over the years, this is not a new kind of behaviour that has been cause by feminism. Male rape and abuse victims have often been subject to cruel treatment and reacting this way to cheating is not specifically modern. This has been going on in one form or another for a very long time. It's certainly more common now because it's seen as a joke but it's not just post feminism.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In the past men were publicly humiliated and borderline tortured when their wives cheated on them, so things have improved a little I suppose.

[–]Rethgil 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. Context is all. The modern context is that men are often viewed as evil, while women rule and dictate to them. Your notion of "improvement" is thus pretty much now moving backwards.

[–]AkaviriDragon 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Not only do most women seem to have no empathy for men, modern women seem to actually delight in hurting men. They won't even extend empathy to little boys.

I suspect this is a side effect of not having a nuclear family and of giving children's custody to women by default. Wouldn't surprise me that these ladies that grow up without their fathers, and possibly with mothers who fed them lies about their dads being less than stellar, that they'd think men are the scum of the earth. These ladies never had a father figure and never developed empathy towards men. How they're raised (raised to have empathy for others) is very important.

Statistically there is no single better predictor of a negative or terrible outcome for a child than than he was raised by a single mother. (Its possible that single fathers have the same effect, but due to prefential custody given to women it hasn't been studied.) Children need both parents, yet people insist on marrying, divorcing and separating, which greatly hurts the child.

Women are the prime initators of divorce. In a study women claimed they were more likely to initiate divorce if they knew they were likely to get custody. Our society gives prefential custody to women.

So by giving prefential custody to women we're incentivating the person most likely to divorce to go ahead and do it. Not a great way to promote the child's best interests for a nuclear family.

You'd think that prefential custody would be justifiable. That these women are saints who divorce violent men to protect their child's best interests. Because of research, we now know women are as likely as men to be abusive in relationships. When erin pizzey started hosting shelters for women in abusive relationships, who brought their children along with them as they ran away from men they claimed were abusive husbands, she noticed many women were as abusive, or in some cases more, than the men they were running away from, leaving the child damaged either way. People have to understand that these women are not helpless victims, but women who willingly chose to have a relationship, marry, and have children, with violent men. You'd figure after 5 years or more together, before having a child, these women would know who they're dating and if the person is violent. My theory, is that they know very well, and date them instinctually, due to the actractiveness of their violence and psychopathy. These women are not helpless victims, but people that should be held accountable for their own choice of partner.

So in conclusion, if you want women with empathy, make sure children have both parents. Start by ending preferential custody, then looking for methods of keeping the family together, and hold women who pick violent fathers at the cost of their future child's well being responsible for the men they choose. And continue to study how empathy is developed.

I wish I had the studies/research/data for all this. They're all compiled in "truth about" videos from stefan molyneux so if you lurk there you'll find them.

[–]Rethgil 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely. Add to that the way mass media shouts little other than thr feminist "men are scum and stupid" in every form, even if kid's single parent mothers are decent enough not to. Combine the two, and you get our lovely modern culture.

[–]SilencingNarrative 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd also add that humans tend to dissociate with insects and the like. I'd be more concerned about a kid torturing a mammal of some kind than I would a bug or a fish. Not that torturing those things is OK, simply that it is less likely a sign of deeper mental issues.

Yeah I don't particularly want to give any page views to a facist rag that supported the Nazi party and only stopped because the government ordered them to whilst we were at war.

Haha, it's so cute when women commit felonies. But it's ok, the guys deserve it. They cheated.

[–]Antilogic81 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Even faithful men who never cheat need a lesson in faithfulness taught to them every once in awhile. Complete maiming of male genitals is both humane and just in this regard.

This guy likely deserved it. Women don't do rash things ever.

[–]redditorriot 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I trust he was sent on a relationship sensitivity course.

[–]lovewomenhatebitches 32 points33 points34 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Saw this shit on Facebook and several comments where about how he deserved this for cheating. What the actual fuck. Women these days really like hurting men and that's not okay. We men should ideally stop caring about women for a while which will make them see how they're wired to need us.

[–]dangerousopinions 34 points35 points36 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If my girlfriend ever cheats I'll just light her on fire, that seems appropriate and balanced. /s

One man woman learned a very valuable lesson after cheating on his girlfriend wearing revealing clothes: If you're going to be unfaithful dressing slutty, don't leave your appendages yourself vulnerable to a fiery attack getting raped.

Let's see how long that article lasts before the author's crotch gets set on fire by feminists.

[–]Howdoievendo 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow...just...what the fuck man.

There, now see how the Feminists feel about the incident.

Fucking disgusting the way the article is written let alone the incident.

[–]StarsDie 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm actually tempted to find an example of an acid attack on a woman who cheated and paste that context into this article.

[–]Koverp 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

India and the Middle East have a lot of that.

[–]MenandBoysareGood 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is why domestic violence afflicted on men is never addressed...if anything it's seen as funny.

[–]StarsDie 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When acid attacks happen in the middle east because a woman cheated that is often held up as a prime example of patriarchal oppressive dominance. A woman in the west setting a mans dick on fire for the same offense is not seen as being dominant and oppressive though. It might even be good for a few laughs.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

How anyone could think violence and vandalism is the proper reaction to cheating is beyond me. No excuse for such behavior. Pack your shit and leave. That's what you do if you want out.

sigh

edit; Lol'd at this strawman [in the comments] though.

People... Nobody is stopping him from pressing charges. I'll agree, most would have a different reaction if the genders were reversed. I'll admit I'd feel different too, even though it's wrong both ways, but the law isn't on her side. He is. Stop making this into "poor me, poor men". It's actually terrifying the first thing some bring up when discussing double standards is that men can't hit women and it be accepted. We shouldn't be accepting of anyone hitting one another for any reason other than self defense, but you sound like an idiot when the first place you go is "we can't hit women!!" eye roll

[–]Meistermalkav 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Maybe, just maybe, this is the secret?

Men know when they do weird shit to other men, they can get beat the fuck up.

  • You want to touch the stripper? Get beat the fuck up.

  • You want to act up? Better do it in a way no one can beat you up for.

  • You want to have an argument? Better watch out, because someone might snap and beat you.

  • You wanna say Nigger? Hey, have fun getting beat up...

On a very base level, this is what keeps 90 % of men in line. The fear of immediate punishment.

Now, with women, the situation is reversed.

  • You want to touch the stripper? Society literally tells people to not beat me up for it.

  • You want to act up? Hell, society knows I have "A temper", better not beat me up for itm, and take it.

  • You want to have an argument? OOOh, you will not defend yourself from me, or I will hit you. Or, alternatively, if you dare to block in any way that could hurt my fists, you are in big trouble, mister.

  • You want to hit me for saying nigger? I know you being black lets you win over me, but look at me, I am a precious white woman, shedding white woman tears, because some black brute dared to punch me.

Sorry but here is the propper reaction to this :

  • first call the police, because you wanted to report that your girlfriend wanted to light YOU on fire. No sense in talking this over, or mentioning it was only your dick, just go, it was the entirety of you, because anything else would be playing it down. You are currently fearing for your life, and searching for a weapon to defend yourself with. If they don't hurry, you are afraid you will have to defend yourself.

  • second, call an ambulance, because of the pain, you are unable to drive, and you would like to see a doctor. Make sure they know what happened. Make this a story. who cares if they get with blue lights, and stop in front of the house, the more people between you and her, the better.

  • Third, as soon as you can, tell your story, in front of a recording device, to the police, and ask for a restraining order against your ex. Remember, she tried to light you and the bed you were on on fire, you are currently assuming she is attempting murder. Also, just because, mention that you have nowhere else to go. And ask the police if they could not remove her from the common flat. becasuse obviously, you have to fear for your life around her, and why should you have to get a new place?

  • fourth, just for the time when she breaks the restraining order, because she is a priviledged princess, buy three of those cans of pepperspray. One to train with, and see how you can pull this, second one to have as a reserve, and the third one to have as actual defense. Remember, aim for eyes, ears and throat. And just like medicine, continuous squirting, untill she is on the run or the bottle is empty. Anything less would be allowing her to set you on fire again. If she comes at you agressively, add a liughter to the mix, and see how she likes it.

-. fifth, see psychiatric help. Mention that you have nightmares about the episode. About being set on fire. You can not even properly smoke, and you can't get it up without getting flashbacks. Admit that you have troubles falling asleep around women. Get them to recommend something to you. because hey, free drugs.

With a bit of luck, and a capable attorney, you can press charges up to attempted manslaughter ( did she think the bedding was flame resistant? Was she aware the victim had been using deodorant? did she take steps to prevent a housefire if the fire would have spread?), and reap the benefits. Milk this for ALL this is worth.

Because there is so much more horrid stuff you can do to your ex then just reagrrange her face.

[–]Cypher_Aod 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Exactly, the only way we can fight this insanity is with rationality and within the allowances and confines of the law. Make enough noise, bring enough evidence to bear and eventually things will have to start shifting.

[–]Meistermalkav 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And when we get the first woman locked up for life for attempted murder bcause she did some "cutsey&tempramental" thing because she thought her man was cheating on her.... and get her in court ordered therapy for "insanity" & hopefully mark her as a sexual predator for life....

That's the time when we will see them finally stop this.

[–]NovaStoneReddit 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Wargame4life 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

let this be the proof to take things into your own hands, society hasn't got your back.

its fucking disgusting that this act of domestic violence is seen as a "Joke" its outright fucking extreme abuse.

[–]Keiichi81 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So let me get this straight. Throwing acid on your girlfriend for cheating on you is something only disgusting, primitive savages in the middle east do. Lighting your boyfriend's genitals on fire for cheating on you though is just plain hilarious because he deserves it, and you go girlfriend!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can you say law suit? Shes lucky he didnt punch her in the face like she deserved. When a women becomes a violent threat she is no longer a women and should be treated as a man.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's still a woman but that doesn't mean he can't self-defend against a crazy bitch.

[–]manicmonkeys 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This is completely wrong. A human doing something wrong to another human should be punished. Gender has nothing to do with it. Implying that men should be held to a higher standard, like you're doing here, is the whole problem in the first place.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Your right. I didnt even catch myself doing that.

[–]manicmonkeys 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I knew what you meant of course. It's just ingrained in too many people that women inherently deserve better treatment, and that's half the problem right there.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I understood. Women are like children and you want them to be treated equally on the same level as a man... like another man would another man.

[–]Iron-Lotus 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She should not be treated like a man. She should be treated like a human being independent of sex.

"Don't stick your dick in crazy"

[–]SilencingNarrative 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I prefer the larger scale version: Dont engage with a society that doesnt fully respect your dignity as a human being (particularly as evidenced by its placing the onus on you to avoid vicious people instead of punishing them when they commit outrageous violations of your trust). That soceity has serious contempt for you. Tread lightly upon its streets and corridors. Seek out others who realize this truth and bear witness to each other.

[–]SilencingNarrative 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Thanks. I have been searching for a satisfactory reply to "don't stick your dick in crazy" and never been able to compose one that I liked until this morning.

"don't stick your dick in crazy" has been on my short list of vicious, underhanded, snarky arguments that really needed a good comeback for a while now.

[–]harpua1972 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What is the rest of your short list?

[–]SilencingNarrative 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My all time most hated argument is this one. This is often floated in the midst of a discussion about a false rape accusation:

you know what burns me about false rape accusations? The next time some woman gets raped and complains, no one will believe her.

Anyone want to take a whack at answering it effectively and righteously?

[–]harpua1972 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Interesting challenge, and a great point.

[–]SilencingNarrative 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

My response is

it doesn't make sense to me that a potential future victim is more important that a present actual victim. How is it different from saying "you know what burns me about sex crimes? The next time a man is falsely accused of rape, and protests his innocence, no one will believe him"

[–]harpua1972 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]hidden_but_true 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I hope the man (and the DA) sue the hell out of the woman.

But here the question is what we can change: Can we sue the paper? I mean, it exorts to violence. It says 'Come on baby, light his fire!'. It has to be a hate crime (And a DA could sue in that direction).

What kind of a suit can we bring? A civil suit? Is anyone here a lawyer? What is the relevant jurisdiction?

We could raise money via indiegogo or something

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Any updates on this story?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In self defense, I'd kill the person that tried to burn me up while I was sleeping. I've been cheated on and never resorted to violence. Sure they get an ear full of what I think of them but no harm. I think legally you not responsible for your actions within 20-30 seconds of waking up. So if someone attacks you while your sleeping and vulnerable you can get more slack with how you defend yourself.

PS I've been burned with nail polish remover and it burns faster than gasoline. I tried to use it to start a fire once and it burned off super hot and fast. Spilt some on my arm and it caught fire. I put it out within seconds but still caused my skin to bubble up. That stuff is no joke.

[–]Cypher_Aod 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

not to mention that acetone spreads through fabrics extremely quickly, this guy is lucky that his entire bed didn't catch fire.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What bugs me the most about this is how people blame it on stoicism and male gender roles when guys end up keeping quiet when this sort of stuff happens to them. Anyone here who is a mental health professional should be ashamed of their profession for buying into that narrative in spite of overwhelming evidence against it.

There seems to be the view among some women that because men have a number of advantages over them, such as, among other things, physical strength & income that it's ok to support these kinds of behaviors as some kind of act of rebellion but actually, to be treated equally, women should be condemning this kind of behaviour for what it is - domestic violence.
