No good comes out of dating "newly single" or "recently separated" men. So many men are on dating apps looking for rebounds, even though they'd never admit it. They recognize their former relationship is over, but they're not quite ready to give up some of the girlfriend/wife perks like on-demand sex or therapy sessions, especially during such a difficult time. These men are looking for someone to help ease them out of their relationship and to make a smoother transition into single life. And if he's going through a divorce, he's going to lean on you extra hard to fulfill his needs but expect you to ask for nothing because "he's going through a lot right now." Even if he claims "the previous relationship has been over for a long time," he's not ready for long term dating. While he might seem committed for the short term, he will be ready to drop you to experience the bachelor life after you've helped him through the worst parts of his breakup.

Women and men approach the end of relationships very different. Just because you've been fine to date a month or two out after the end of a serious relationship doesn't mean a man is capable of the same. Don't be an emotional support animal.
