Our fear of bees, spiders, and wolves as compared to men in our own lives and men dictating society in ways that squeeze about 30% of women to death, and keep the other 70% as lifelong hostages baffles me.

Those numbers are generous. 1 in 6? A year ago I took it upon myself to compare all the figures that’s out there on rape & sexual assault to police reports etc. Let me tell you, 1 in 5 is a far more realistic number and when we’re including sexual assault it’s -most likely- around 1 in 3

There was a Sky News tweet on a story about a research study that found that "half of young women and girls were harassed on Britain's streets during the summer."

And OF COURSE the replies are scrotes saying things like "so men are not allowed to talk to women on the street, pay them a compliment, tell them they are very attractive, where are we going, what about a wink or a smile - is that harassment?" or "it happens to men as well."

The expectation that women are supposed to just accept harassment because otherwise mens' fee-fees will be hurt is so infuriating.

No. No it's not like that.

Sure, it's generalising in that very moment, but ya can't treat it like it's an issue based on a mixture of misinformation, prejudice and overly paranoia.

I did a poll in an all women’s group I am in once. Out of 30 women that answered ONLY ONE had never experienced any type of unwanted sexual contact, and she was not raised in the US. Of the remaining 29, the majority experienced their first instance prior to age 18.

It’s revolting and terrifying.

Total tangent alert: I love that the biggest, most spectacular great white sharks are females over 40.🦈

ETA: One of the team leads on OCEARCH's shark tracker project said in an interview that tagging 15', 3000 lbs Mary Lee, a great white believed to be 50 years old was probably the most incredible moment of his life: "just to be in the presence of this apex predator in her absolute prime..."

Eata: OCEARCH's tracking project proved a stunning point. Great white sharks have been cruising up & down the eastern seaboard since before humans existed And right off the coast; swimming into bays & river mouths, and even splashing up into the surf on populated beaches. Yet we never knew this because great white attacks are so rare despite the sharks being RIGHT THERE. Which makes the whole odds of being attacked by a shark versus being raped statistic that much more depressing if you think about it .
