The older I get the more financial independence I get. Having been stuck with men in the past due to lack of money was AWFUL (abusive relationships). Now I know I can walk away from my partner at any point and that has been soooo good for my mental health.

[–]light_workerx3FDS Newbie 34 points35 points36 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes same here !! I'm glad you are at that point in life . I felt the same way. Definitely has helped my mental health alot .

Yup!! And this is why they don't wanna pay women equal wages—cuz we vote with our feet and run away from their dumb asses

100% agree that women helping women level up and get wealthy is super important and for the good of all society. The only billionaire to ever lose their billionaire status due to giving so much away to good causes has been JK Rowling. Now Jeff Bezo's ex is giving billions away in a year. In poor countries, women use their incomes to feed and educate their children, whereas the men are often kept in poverty because they use their money for things like gambling and alcohol. In my own life, one of my brothers got rich, as in can throw money away constantly on stupid stuff, and that's what he does - throws it away. He barely even saves for retirement. I got barely above "stable" and used it to help my mother get away from my abusive dad and am using it to help my siblings get through college and make good choices for their future careers. It's really fulfilling and so nice to have some money to work with above survival level! Women do the majority of the work in this world but own less than 10% of the wealth. Go get that bag for the good of society!

Its basically been proven over and over in studies that when a man controls money, he boozes it away. But when a woman controls the finances, she gets her children educated, better access to nutrition, and uplifts her community.

Money isn’t everything but it sure has helped my dating record. Why would I go 50/50 on a mediocre date when I can just take my friend out? Why would I spent time and money putting on expensive makeup for this mediocre date when I could do that for a night out with my friends?

[–]mypreciouscornchip 64 points65 points66 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Strong agree. I've been single since summer 2019 but the extra money is worth it. I just spent $260 on concert tickets for my best friend and I to attend a show in 2022.

I am old enough that many of my friendships have reached the 20 year mark. Women I have been friends with since junior high school, who have been there for me through thick and thin and vice versa.

I would much rather spend money having an amazing time with someone I have long-term bff-chemistry with than some random guy who's probably going to end up being a douchebag.

[–]XRozeFDS Newbie 57 points58 points59 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

sameeee. the more money i make, the less interested i am in men. it's a huge part of why i dedicate so much of my free time IRL to helping other women reach highly paid status.

what completely boggles my mind are women who have family money and still chase after loser men. but i suppose loser men chase women with money more relentlessly and they still exist in the same patriarchal culture as women with less resources.

Having money gives you a much different perspective, and power dynamic, in a relationship. When I tell men what I do for a living, I can instantly tell if they are judgmental, insecure, entitled, or are charming me inordinately because they see a free ticket to ride. Before, I dated people exclusively in my industry so that they could relate to my job, but I think that my radar was less honed to the other red flags. Now men reveal themselves much more readily. A HVM reveals themselves to me by being secure in their career and finances without being intimidated. Having money helps with vetting, and I am not hinging my expectations on future outcome of support for myself or my kids. The ultimate freedom!

This is why I will never tell my partner about any bank investments I have right now prior to meeting them and will never put money into joined accounts for funds I don't have 100% access to. Those funds will also be used for shared household expenses such as groceries and we both have to be putting in equal amounts based on income or I'm pulling out what I put in the moment I sense any funny business. A lot of older generation men in my family like to control the finances of their wives and the women (my cousins) just go along with them, not able to feed their children while the men spend days enjoying themselves on their wife's dime.

[–]zazaleazFDS Newbie 46 points47 points48 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I go even further and will never mix my banking information or share a credit card with any man. There are other ways to share expenses- take turns paying a bill or split the bills up between you or one pays the other back. No matter how much I like a guy, I will not put myself in the vulnerable position of letting them access my money.

[–]moonartemis1989FDS Newbie 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

is it not the norm to let the guy pay even after marriage?

[–]zazaleazFDS Newbie 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To be honest I personally don't believe in marriage so I actually don't know.

[–]outward_handFDS Newbie 70 points71 points72 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I used to have fallen in love with my partner's potential. He was tall, fit, played sports, excelled in sports, and was a financial genius who wanted to take the CFA.

Pre FDS, my heart I was telling myself yeah maybe if I stay I will see and even contribute to his success. When we dated I was earning more, more active in extra curriculars, had offers more than him. Then it dawned on me that he was just potential. But him not acting on it was a part of him as well. It is him with or without potential. The ambition was one sided and I felt like I had to drag both of us upwards. The career and finances conversations were one sided.

Potential with inaction is just that: a chance not taken. Be with someone who challenges you and sees your worth. Don't pedestal raw talent and skill alone because without consistency and grit and emotional intelligence it will not go anywhere. Also it's scientifically proven that your partner plays a huge role in your career success so choose well.

Having your own money can help you vet for opportunists and gold diggers which are disproportionately men.😘

Always have your own bag. My ex earned 20k more than me and still never wanted to pay for anything. I got so sick of him going and spending money on himself and with his friends and never giving me that energy. Always have your own bag!!!! Now I do that shit for myself.

[–]xpressurself111FDS Newbie 29 points30 points31 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I earned $20K than my cheating ex scrote and he said that was why I should pay for things. You’re not the prize, you’re human garbage. But yes-nothing feels better than paying for something for you, no strings attached, you earned it, wanted it, and made it happen. You’re a queen.

[–]curlybeatboxFDS Newbie 51 points52 points53 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Poverty destroys options, we need to financially empower women so they can have as many options as possible. Without options women become trapped and that's why men want to keep women away from financial independence. Ignore scrotes and stack that paper

[–]camille_sanFDS Newbie 35 points36 points37 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is huge. I’m thankful every day that I have created a lifestyle that I alone am able to maintain. I have lived with two different partners and both times when I ended the relationship I never had to give a second thought to how I would make it financially by myself. My mom told me when I was a child that I would need to make sure I could support myself so that I could choose if I wanted to be with someone or not. I’m so fiercely independent now that she worries she actually created a monster lol. But I wish every girl had someone to teach them what my mom taught me.

[–]bombas- 5 years ago [recovered] (13 children) | Copy Link

I think he kinda DOES need to meet you at your income level, or close to it.

Money is the most potent, distilled form of power that exists in this earth. Money is a tool for enacting your will on the world. If you have enough money, you can just decide something, and make it be true.

I started earning serious money in my early 20’s and it changed absolutely everything for me. Now thanks to some good investments, I am a wealthy person. Not “do anything I want and buy elections” rich but “could live an extravagant lifestyle without ever working again” rich, which for most people is fuck-you money. But I’m still working, and working on transforming that into “change people’s lives” money.

Anyone reading this, if you can’t do basically whatever you want when you want because of financial constraints, I’m begging you to spend the next 5 years of your life focused on RUTHLESSLY EARNING MORE. Ruthlessly! Earning! More!

-Do not have feelings about your job; take whatever pays you highest, get a pay raise every 6 months or quit for a new job.

-Do not worry about budgeting & spending less, this game is about EARNING MORE. I haven’t had a budget...ever? Sometimes I think I could have built more wealth if I’d invested all of the money I spent on skincare products or whatever, but why would I have wanted to spend years of my life feeling deprived? Budgeting is such a drain on your mental energy. Manage your money sensibly but put the bare minimum of energy into spending less, compared to earning more!

-Do not get distracted by bullshit like what age you are, what other people are doing, or worst of all, men. After 5 years of working harder to earn more, you will indeed be 5 years older. Scared? Don’t be; as a wealthy person, you will look and feel 5 years younger than when you started. Youth is basically something you can buy. Being hot is absolutely something you can buy. Having young-hot-person-fun is always something you can buy! Fear of time passing is something society throws at women to keep them submissive and in a scarcity mindset.

-Get rich AND THEN get married!!!

You can literally use money to make problems go away.

Here are some examples:

-My horrible NVM boss published lies about me after I quit, making it look like I still worked for him, taking credit for my work etc. I sent a polite email asking him to take it down. He gave me some bullshit that he would “eventually.” I hired a lawyer. Less than 24 hours later there was no more mention of me on that loser’s website. Problem solved.

-While I was first focusing on my career, I was having trouble balancing my long work hours with having a social life, eating healthy, taking care of myself etc. So I stopped cooking at home and stopped cleaning; I paid for those services. I got all my time back. Problem solved.

-I was living with a NVM who I supported financially (and trust me, I learned my lesson— NEVER do this!!) One day, I finally had enough of and wanted him gone. Well, the apartment was mine and so was everything in it, so I packed his literally 1 bag of personal belongings and dropped him off with a friend and that was it, he was gone! Same day! Problem solved.

I do want to address the idea of men bringing “something else” to the table, but not being your equal financially. I think this is a really nice idea in theory, but men ruin this for themselves.

I start really earning money at 23, so of course what’s the first thing my young dumb self does? Oh, I get engaged to a SUPER hot, completely broke & barely-employed 27 year old and start 100% supporting him financially. Because we’re in love! I was proud to support him 🤡 while he WENT BACK TO SCHOOL 🤡🤡 so we could build our future together 🤡🤡🤡

Good god.

This man brought PLENTY of “inspiring energy” to the table, ha. He had a literally perfect body. His abs were extremely inspiring, believe me! He was great in bed, and ate me out whenever I wanted. He cooked, he cleaned...after all, he wasn’t busy working. He was wildly romantic, and planned the most amazing, high-effort dates. He gave me presents. He supported my dreams and bragged about me to people. He was faithful.

He also HATED HIMSELF for being so much less successful than I was. And over time, he absolutely hated my guts for “making him” feel that way. And that’s the sad truth about men. So very few of them can genuinely respect a successful woman instead of feeling like a failure by comparison.

So of course the relationship turned abusive. And the abuse, heartbreak, break-up, and cancelled wedding almost broke me and ruined my li—

Just kidding! It didn’t ruin my life. It didn’t break me. Because I WAS RICH. I could easily get him out of my life without having to disrupt my living situation. I could recover from the pain of the heartbreak in total comfort and with a lot of support. I got massages and joined women’s sports teams and went on tropical vacations and went to therapy and went drinking and shopping with my girlfriends and recovered. I never had to take time off work. I never had to worry: what will I do without him?

It ruined his life, though. Suddenly he was a broke ass 28 year old recently-single barely-employed heartbroken man with one suitcase full of personal belongings, crashing at other people’s apartments, with tuition he couldn’t pay. A much worse situation. The situation that happens sadly more frequently to abused women than abusive men.

Get your bag, ladies. (And never date down.)

The more seasoned I get the more monetary autonomy I get. Having been left with men in the past because of absence of cash was AWFUL (harmful connections). Presently I realize I can leave my accomplice anytime and that has been soooo useful for my psychological wellness.

I don't know if financial security really protects against LVMs. I grew up in a pretty wealthy family with my mom making a big salary and I thought I would make a good salary too (or at least I never thought of counting on a man to supplement my salary) and the result for me was that I dated poor LVMs who brought nothing to the table (no money and no inspiring energy either). I just need FDS because it's different. It's telling me: what if I could actually expect men to inspire me and not just be a bag of trouble?

Love this so much. The only thing I disagree with is "it doesn't have to be your income level." - I wouldn't date a man (ever again....) who wasn't at or above mine. I'm intelligent, ambitious, financially secure and make well over 6 figures in my mid-twenties - at this point, what good is a boyfriend/husband who doesn't provide?
