One that used to annoy me is when I used to take my daughter into a men's room (one room) and there was no changing station, so I would have to go into the ladies' room to change my daughter.

I would get dirty looks and even had a manager threaten to call the cops on me (even though it was a one room bathroom). I told them they should put a changing table in the mens' room.

The difference in attitude between stuff like this and male-only barber shops, clubs, and other establishments is ridiculous.

I’ve seen a feminist claim that the whole world is a male-only safe space, and that we don’t need specific male-only spaces. My husband went to change our baby in the women's bathroom at the shopping center since the men's room didn't have a changing table. Well he got applauded and help holding the diaper bag and everyone was saying how he's such a great daddy! lol

Anywho, sometimes europe can be a great place :)

So....here's the thing. Dad's who take their kids anywhere are anomalous. It's just the way it is. The first question asked of a child who appears to be missing is usually an inquiry to the location of Mommy. At Doctors ' offices, the nurses tend to ask for " (child's) Mom?" Show up at a PTA meeting as a dad, not with Mom....count the odd glances. This is not a criticism, and I don't feel oppressed because of it. I believe it to be a commentary on the role that we fathers, in general, have assigned to ourselves. We can't change it. We can't normalize it. Mothers will always be seen by society as the caregivers and carriers of the child in retail establishments, in doctor's offices, and in almost every aspect of our society. Google Parents magazine covers. Have a look. Here's the thing, though. We dads don't need to make a big deal out of it. Whether we're a single dad, or just a dad with a bit more schedule flexibility; simply enjoy that time with your kid at the store, or pediatrician, or picking up from school...because you are setting an example that your son may emulate, or your daughter will promote, when they've children of their own. Please don't see this as a complaint, or an attack, or a marginalization of any parent's role, because I believe and trust that every family is doing what works best for their family, and I KNOW that my position is not to judge you. However, I would encourage dads everywhere, if possible, to try to take a few more opportunities to capitalize on that alone time with the kids.
