Well, look: fighting on behalf of women is a laudable pro-equality activity, the finest thing since sliced bread. Fighting on behalf of men, though, is a heinous atrocity which requires its mutant disease-bearers to be killed with fire and wiped from the face of the earth.

By the way, the comic artist screwed up: the clueless misogynist dude needs to be wearing a Klan hood and burning a cross; perhaps eating a plate of poop as well.

When a woman says she focuses on women’s unique underprivileged status I ask if she means having to sign up for the draft under threat of imprisonment, if she means that her parents can mutilate her genitals as an infant because they don’t like their appearance or if she’s fighting against women having no choice in parenthood after conception, even when raped.

Usually they then say that these aren’t issues for women, to which I respond that they are issues for men, so how are women uniquely underprivileged when men demonstratively are discriminated against.

If someone wants to prioritize women’s issues over men’s, that’s fine, and they can call themselves a feminist and still be pro-real-equality.

I mean. I don’t know about you guys, but I sure as hell have limited time, and can’t manage to dedicate myself to every cause 100%... and if I spend an hour providing support to male abuse victims, it doesn’t mean that I’ve stopped caring about the draft... or climate change... or police brutality... or on and on.

I acknowledge all those problems, and I care a great deal about all of them... but I have more passion and opportunity to work on one than the others.

When someone says they’re a feminist... if that’s what they mean, I have no room to judge.

It’s when/if they deny the other issues I face that I lose respect for them. (And sure. That happens. A lot. Your mileage may vary. I’ve gotten lucky as far as feminists I personally know... but they’re a drop In the bucket next to Mary Koss and those like her.)

So by that logic, why is this subreddit called "Mens Rights" and not "Equalist" or "Egalitarian?" We need to accept that feminism is legitimate just as feminism needs to accept the same regarding men's rights. I'm a Feminist just as I'm an advocate for Men's rights and human rights; I think each are inextricably linked. Sneering at any one of these ideas seems degrading to all of them. As I say to skeptics of Men's Rights: let's not judge an entire idea by clickbait examples of its most aggravating followers.

At the end of the day, as far as I am concerned, it's not that I'm against the idea of feminism or anything (whether modern feminism has derailed from his original intent is another topic).

My problem is that feminism isn't about equality. Feminism can be seen as a branch of a broader equality movement if we want, but clearly feminism doesn't cover all equality movement and clearly the main goal of feminism isn't equality for everyone. And don't get me wrong : I'm not saying it's a bad thing!

To make an analogy, let's imagine a movement saying they fight against poverty and what they actually do is help poor children in poor country. Is that a bad thing? Of course not! But clearly the goal is much more specific than fighting against poverty : it is to help children living in poor countries.

The thing is, whether is it fightinig for equality or fighting against poverty, those are too vague an ideal to have one unified movement. So that's normal we have several movements that fight for those goals but in more specific manner. Okay, so far so good.

The problem is when one of those movements try to paint itself as the only viable representative of the cause. You know, the whole "If you believe in gender equality, then you are necessarily a feminist", "If you are in a movement concerning gender equality which isn't feminism, then you are anti-feminist and anti-women", or worst "If you aren't feminist, you are anti-women and misogynist".

That's obviously crazy nonsense. But, you will be told those things, again and again and again. Of course there will be a lot of people that realize it. Some will just let it slide, but some other will blow up and wonder if feminists are taking him/her for an idiot, which this comic express quite well in a way.

Feminism is the belief in women’s rights based on equality between sexes, and it’s a historically (and arguably still) oppressed group which means it’s something that needs to be addressed separately and directly. It’s important to address what group is oppressed and differentiate between oppression and discrimination.

So if you’re an egalitarian you’re also a feminist, and if you’re a feminist you’re also an egalitarian.

I don’t know, it seems fine to me. There are unlimited problems in the world, most people only focus on a few.

Equality between white men and black men, American men and American women Rich and poor Citizens and illegals Etc

The reality is people focus on what they encounter. A white middle class woman is going to see differences between her own success and the peers she sees every day. That means white men.

When was the last time you heard about white working -aged women complaining about black or Hispanic men? It’s been a while for me. They generally interact with white men a LOT though, so that’s where their focus is.

Yes, feminism is a poor choice of words for general equality, but it’s a great choice when your opposition is men of generally the same race and class.
