I want some opinions... be brutally honest please.

I had just turned 17 when I started dating a girl who was well into 18.

We had lots of sex. She got pregnant. I've paid my child support faithfully for years. That absolutely ruined me financially. I was ordered to pay almost 60% of my income for 20 years (and counting). There are reasons I am paying beyond 18 but I'm not complaining about that. Hell, I'm not really complaining at all. I am happy to support my child.

I attempted to get a modification based on the years of barely being able to pay my rent, having to borrow money just to survive and so forth and I even specifically said I had no interest in paying anything less than what I was ordered. I just wanted to know if there was a way I could pay less per month... for more months.

That request was denied.

So I spoke to a lawyer (friend, unofficially, not representing me) who asked me how old I was when she got pregnant. I was still 17. I turned 18 before my son was born, but 17 when she got pregnant. He asked how old she was. 18, nearly 19.

He said law varies from state to state and there are statutes of limitation in some but that she would be guilty of "statutory rape" in many states.

Turns out I could still file in the state where we both lived, where the "crime" happened.

Now here's the thing. I knew what I was doing. I wanted to have sex. She didn't have to coerce me. The few people I've spoken to say that doesn't matter. That I wasn't legally old enough to make that decision.

Now, I don't want to do this out of vengeance. I don't hate her for "making me" pay child support.

But everyone I've talked to says something along the lines of "She ruined your life dude. You WERE too young to make that decision even if you feel like you were not and you alone shouldered the financial burden of that choice you weren't allowed to make. Take it to court."

Now they all also say I'd have virtually zero chance of winning despite what the law says. Further, while she may end up in jail or paying a fine it wouldn't do anything to alleviate what I went through.

Part of me feels like I should do it because it is true that I was not legally able to make the decision. Also because she purposely got pregnant to stop me from breaking up with her. She's admitted as much.

The other part of me feels like... as I said, I knew what I was doing. She wasn't the first girl I had sex with. Just the first "adult." And she just happened to be crazy enough to stop taking the pill on purpose.

But then I think about the fact that if she is guilty of a crime and I let her slide... how can I ever say that a video like this "hits me in the feels" or that I "wish there was something I could do" to help people like the man in the video?

I understand it is a pretty big difference between being in second grade and being molested by your teacher and a 17 year old willfully having sex with his 18 year old girlfriend....

But that is why I am asking for opinions.
