Broke up w my girlfriend of two years because I saw her messaging on snapchat asking the guy who raped her if he missed fucking her.

I stayed up so many nights of her crying her eyes out about it and comforting her and she still did that, she was a very fucked up person (more fucked up by trauma than morally).

When I saw those messages I pretty much got the angriest I’ve ever been in my life. But reading this article, which resurfaced that anger, honestly comforted me. My ex and her are terrible people undeniably, but the psychological facts surrounding rape victims are undeniable. Victims try to reclaim the encounter, it’s almost inevitable. Whether it be reframing and denial, or what she chose to do. Basically I’m saying she’s just a damaged mangled hollowed-shell of a person to stoop that low, so the behavior becomes more pathetic than immoral, and I can sympathize.

Edit: I agree w other comments, these are extremely isolated incidents. Just because it happened to me doesn’t even remotely mean it’s normal/common, I just ignored the signs

I actually had a cousin who dated a guy for 2 years and decided to go out with a guy or coworker on NYE. She ended up getting date raped by him. It was a whole fiasco. My cousin apparently had bipolar 2 coupled with narcissistic tendencies and an anxiety disorder. She was misdiagnosed with ADHD. Let's get one thing straight... people with any mental disorder have brains that don't "work" like the typical Joe six pack on the street. My cousin says when she got raped she kept on complaining about an "emptiness" she was trying to fill after she got raped. A colleague of my once said that people who do have mental illness don't usually go to psychiatrists, but the people who deal with them that do. The person who has mental illness thinks this is normal behaviour because this is the only reality they know. These people will not know peace even when on meds.
