and before this gets twisted into some form of misogyny on my part, i mean gamestop hiring practices. if you ever look, 90% of the females who work at gamestop are atleast "cute" by a normal standard, and usually have little to no actual video game experience / knowledge.

To everybody saying that this isn't sexism, what's the difference between:

An employer that hires a hot chick over a more qualified male because she will attract more nerdy teenagers full of hormones.
An employer that hires a male over a more qualified female because he doesn't want to worry about her getting pregnant and stay away from the job due to maternity leave.

Both scenarios are clear cases of sexism and I'm very surprised and disappointed to see so many MRA's that don't see any problem on the first one.

It's a personal story, not a truth. My personal story: I've applied to Gamestop before, more than once. At a time when I actually did play a lot of video games (female). I was never even called in for an interview.

For the record, this is not always true. I worked at my local Gamestop during the 2010 holiday season. I was hired over several female candidates.

Disclaimer though, I have been a loyal customer there for at least a decade and the manager is an incredibly good manager who I've known for at least 5-6 years, but it does happen that guys get hired over women.

The assistant manager is a woman, but I would stake money on her being hired because of her experience instead of her looks (not that she's unattractive) because she was one of the best people I've ever worked for in any job, ever, and knew exactly what she was talking about.

Wait why is Smacky an authority on this? It is complete b.s. When I worked there, and e.b., we literally wold have stacks of applicants many of whom were female. My staff was male entirely, both places. I am sure this happens occasionally but I think it is by manager to manager. I was never told I should hire females.

I think the fact is that Gamestop can sell more by doing this, and there are no shortage of young people without work, so they can be picky.

I would hope that companies take a higher ground in situations like these, but my guess is that they are hurting financially. Why go to a physical store when you can just buy it online? So you do what you can to attract people to your store, especially if a majority of those people are teenage boys.

Maybe the solution is to find a way to sell better to girls.

I worked in a steel mill, it is a very muscular job in extreme conditions and I never saw a women there. In the offices, secretaries and such sure, but never in the steel mill. I always wondered if it was because nobody applied or if they just shred every female curriculum they got...

The way i look at it is, that gamestop managers probably see a rise in sales if they hire a cute girl to work their store, rather than another pudgy nerd. Sex sells, and I dont really see what the problem with it is.

I actually had a similar experience when applying to Pets'mart. When I applied, the lady said that I had a higher chance because I am a guy. She said that because it's mostly females who work in that particular department, guys usually have a higher chance of getting hired.

It's a fact that a female will be chosen over a guy in the gaming retail part of it all because more gamers are guys fantasizing about meeting a gamer chick and corporate gaming industry knows that and it's makes them big money. So if you had a corporation are you going for big money or pocket change? Can't wait to see everyones answers. I'm gonna predict big money for the win.
