Ironically, the letter of the law type religious dogma that Jesus decried is practiced more fervently by his alleged followers. There are many Christians who use their holier-than-thou life as justification for getting into heaven. Despite the message that was supposed to be "good news", especially to people that are traditionally shunned by the religious community: that it doesn't matter what you've done or what you do, you are blameless before God and nothing can separate you from him.

Christians say that in prayer and then immediately go out looking for things to judge in order to make them feel better. Most of it is defensiveness and an unwillingness to accept the faults in their own lives. You can tell a lot about a person by what they are adamantly opposed to.

9 times out of 10, you see someone angry at the homosexuals, they have gay thoughts. Someone rallies against alcohol, they have a problem with it themselves. Sex, drugs, atheism. Whatever someone decries fervently, they struggle with in their own lives.

You didn't say organized religion. You mentioned specifically people are nuts if they believe a god exists. And even then, it's okay to disagree with them without belittling them, so long as they're at least remotely reasonable (i.e, I believe in a god vs god exists for certain) If they're not doing hostile or being overzealous, there's no reason to call theists names.

Now you're lumping buddhists and hindus in with the christians you're probably most frustrated with and it's not even helping you.

Edit: as for the insidious/corrupt behavior thing, 1) any group of people can't be bad without being religious (nazis had their reasons.) and 2) that would speak more about the people than the religion itself. Yeah I understand a lot of religions still have the old "slay the heretics" clause in their scripture but a lot of modern worshippers would understand that's bad.

In the feminist arena, and I am no expert - going off of youtube/reddit experience, a Manspreader is a male who takes an aggressive, male, sexualized pose.

EG - the Captain Morgan pose, which would be seen as displaying your "bulge" I guess. It's really an insane position and I've seen it simply used to deflect rhetorical arguments to more subjective points - like the "aggressive" body position of the debater.

It's pretty lame. Like "Mansplaining" - which often is used to move the argument off the content, and to a 1950's-esque trope you'd see in legitimately sexist videos where "Danny explains to Susie how to drive a car."

It's just condescending. Explaining to my twin sister how a manual transmission works can easily become "Mansplaining" when in reality it's just the practical difference of me growing up with: Hotwheels, RC Cars, Go Karts, Gran Turismo, Car Catalogs, etc and having that be a socially encouraged path with my peers. So when explaining a manual transmission to an adult I'm likely to seem like I'm speaking to an adolescent, which is wrong, but a product of my life experience with it being very young, not my (or their) gender.

This is all to say that Manspreading is the New-Wave Feminist potential interpretation of my body language, rather than my audible language/argumentative point.

This is, again, a hyperbolic approach of taking 1950's sexism and applying it's perception to modern interaction.

This statement right here is how I know your personal bias, because I've actually watched on the bus and subway to see how often this occurs, and it's actually about 40/60 men/women who spread themselves out to claim multiple seats.

Women tend to use their handbags to do it though., but some just sit really awkwardly, and obviously, to prevent people sitting near them.

Personally? I don't really care either way, so long as you move that shit once the carriage is full :P

Additionally, men are actually biologically inclined to do this, the testes are designed to regulate temperature. By forcing a man to close his legs on a hot, stuffy subway car, you're LITERALLY asking him to damage his fertility (not that it really matters in 99% of situations though, as those swimmers are replaced pretty quickly)

Similar arguments are used to explain why it's sexist to have the AC on in the office. People are happy to attribute it to men being in suits, but if you're in a workplace where that is the norm, why isn't there more outrage at the dress-code that forces men into these suits into the first place. Women have far more options, including the options for cardigans, etc - but no, we'd rather fight to just make the men uncomfortable, rather than put on a cardigan. I don't understand why many women insist on dressing half-naked all the time if they're cold anyways. I thought the whole point of being allowed to wear what YOU want to wear, was to be comfortable in the first place. Next thing you know, you'll have feminists complaining that the ski slopes are sexist, because they want to be able to wear mini-skirts and stockings on the slopes. Or you know, dress for the fucking climate!

I have heard mainsplaining in real life, as in the phenomenon, not the word, a few times.

I was playing a video game raid with a girl who had done it a bunch of times, and some guy who was a friend of a friend, and he insisted on explaining every mechanic to her, despite her telling him she knew what she was doing. Didn't bother explaining it to the men, even one who screwed up like every attempt and barely knows right from left.

Also, I help out students at a university's observatory nearby who have to fill out a kind of sky journal. There are a few members of the astronomy club who help out as well, and when a pretty girl comes in, she instantly has four guys "helping" her. I've, more than once, heard a man explain to a woman how to write the date.

The phenomenon exists, but I don't know if it's more likely to happen from men to women, as I've been explained things in a condescending manner by women as well. Still, it's something people should be aware of.

NYC male commuter here.

You can generally fit three people per row of seats (assuming non-obese people) in a subway car in NYC with no physical contact if all people are mindful of how much space they occupy (bags, flailing arms, spread legs). If a guy sits with his legs spread out it usually means whoever's next to them will be rubbing up against their leg for the extent of the ride. And in my experience, it's always guys and never girls with spread open legs.

I admit it's a personal pet peeve of mine to be rubbing up legs with the person next to me when usually on my commute in/out I just want to close my eyes in what little peaceful time I can get out of my day. I have no discomfort in just bringing my legs in to a 90 degree angle and find it provides all the space needed to fit people of various sizes along the row.

The ORIGIN of this whole thing was just a campaign for people to mind how much space they occupy in the car. Feminists that use "manspreading" to argue some overarching patriarchy narrative is a completely different story.

I'll tell you why. You can believe me or not. I don't have hard facts. But roll with me for a second:

Any given night you will find a repeated story on r/all such as this. This in particular fits the mold of the media agenda, which isn't something that is limited to the corporate-owned media of TV, radio and print. Agendas are expressed everywhere on social media, whether by cognizant agents of change or "useful idiots".

This bit of "news" is perfect for the overarching goal of the entities that own and influence the media to engender desired effects and instill certain beliefs. It features a feminist - a member of a group who considers themselves marginalized by a patriarchy -- insensitively belittling a man presumed to have some sort of mental illness or developmental disorder to make a dated joke about manspreading while simultaneously suggesting no man is capable of behaving unless restrained.

This person's anger and outrage have been fed and fed by a media assault pertaining to a shift in attitudes about gender as well as by groups on college campuses funded by less than reputable and actually disruptive NGO's.

This article is guaranteed to get you to form an opinion you will think worthy of expressing. The outrage factor.

Other nights the repeated themes could be banks vs. customers, unarmed blacks vs. hypervigilant and inconvictable police, transgendered persons vs. red states, USA government vs. citizen, etc...

These schisms serve as a tool to maintain the status quo. They splinter society into myriad causes and rallies and make it nearly impossible for any large portion of the population to maintain unity on an issue to the point they would seek changes. Feminists will see the closing of the wage gap as victory while the numbers have been fudged. Blacks will unite and rightfully harbor a growing discontent, but change will only come slowly and at the will of those in charge of structures of power - government, large economic sectors and NGOs.

It's a constant push-pull effect of outrage and calm. We are constantly off guard if we stay beholden to it without pondering its real purpose, why it really exists in such a oervasive manner in every form of media.

I contend that these practices and their outcomes prevent mass worker solidarity, which would be tragic for the bottom lines of companies who sold us out long ago. Our labor, whether menial and easy or grueling, deserves fair compensation relative to corporate profit, and we don't deserve to constantly contribute larger shares of a resource like money which couldn't be more necessary or scarce to the good of the middle class. It's value there only serves to raise standards of living and rejuvenate economies via increased purchasing power.

The problem is, increased purchasing power would mean profits for China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan - because manufacturing is dead here. No pro-manufacturing propaganda is bombarding us daily. It's all the "we don't want to pay you so have fun arguing about this for awhile" crap we get ALL THE TIME.

Welcome to reality.
