I love this community. In a sea of people telling us to accept this treatment as normal, I’m so glad there’s a safe space to talk about the trauma and impact the LVM’s have had on us since we were honestly too young to know any better. I can’t recommend this sub enough to my girlfriends irl.

Last night I had to call the police twice for my friend because her drunk ass man was verbally abusing her so loud I could hear him while we were speaking on the phone. He was hovering around outside her door so she couldn’t call them because they never would’ve made it in time if he decided to punish her for making the call. I’m so glad I did it, they were super cool about it, they had to go twice before they took him away, and my only frustration is that she had the same exact issues with him in 2018. So come on sis.

People really don’t care. Society doesn’t care. The court system doesn’t care. We are just another statistic to everyone.

When my time came where I had to go through that, the only other people that stood up with me were other women who have been through the same thing and high value women. Having so many women who went through similar things come to assist me made me realize one common thing we all share: strength. I went viral where I live & the space I was in due to what happened to me and I had so many women come to me and I have never met one victim that wasn’t strong or had a fire in them that couldn’t be put out. No matter what happened to them, they had something that nobody in this world could take away. I had no idea of this until it happened to me and it made me realize my power and my strength. These parasites are threatened by all of our qualities so they want to try to break and ruin us.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but whether it has happened to you, you are going through it, or it happens to you in the future. Do not forget your strength. Doesn’t matter how dark things get, you have the power to overcome and heal. You can get through absolutely everything. Your better days will come. Women like me who don’t know you, care about you and have you in the back of their minds at all times. This world is shitty as fuck but we have each other‘s back. Women are powerful. Sisterhood is powerful. We need to remember this with our entire beings.

I'm usually a lurker here but this post had me almost in tears.

I was abused by almost every man who was supposed to protect me when I was a child while the pick me women of the family swept it under the rug. Then moved on to my now ex husband who was emotionally and physically abusive while my pick me friends/family gave me tips on how to make him happier so he would stop beating me.

These men damaged me so much that when I met my now awesome loving HV husband, I thought he had ulterior motives because he was so nice to me.

Stay strong ladies. No matter what they try to tell us, we don't deserve to ever be treated that way.

I think I feel alone in the sense that no one will ever know how badly he treated me. To everyone else he seems nice and normal. Emotional and verbal abuse doesn't seem to be taken as seriously. If he had physically abused me, he would have been shunned at school/work, but because it was mainly emotional and verbal and behind doors, no one knew anything. That's why I feel so alone. One of his classmates knows in a sense, but it's not enough for people to see him in a different light.

It got emotional reading this. It helps to know we are not alone. We have each other and our resilience. There is a quote by Frida Kahlo that I hold dear to my heart:

I’m thankful for this group. It’s opened my eyes to how horribly I’ve been treated in the past and given me the motivation to stay single lol instead of swooning for the first man that looks my way. Do I notice it when a man is paying me attention? Sure. But I start looking for evidence in his conversation that he is a HVM. Fuck being miserable in a relationship ever again.

In my personal experience I did not ever suffered domestic violence by a partner, but my heart is always with the women who did, with women and girls out there wishing for someone to save them. I have assumed as a duty to never leave a woman behind who is sharing her suffering to the world.

Thank you, I needed this right now. Divorced my abusive ex last week, and I think what hurts the most is knowing how badly I was manipulated and the level of disregard he showed for me.

We will get through this, and it will make us better. I’m glad I found FDS and there are so many like-minded women here, it gives me peace deep down inside.
