I listened to a news report a couple days ago where buses of refugees were stopped at the border and the men were all taken off the busses and sent back to fight.

There was one article talking about women staying back and fighting and learning how to use guns. And I was like…. Uhm well they have the option?? Where is the part where men are being held against their own right to fight?? And then one tiny sentence full of euphemism out of the whole article said men 18-60 stay. They added it like it wasn’t even important, as if nothing was wrong with that and it was just a filler sentence. It’s sickening.

You are right, most men who 'volunteer' usually don't have a choice. They are forced to do it. It's not a problem of today either. Back when my dad did MBBS and became a doctor (around 35-40 ago), he was given a choice to either serve a minimum of 2 years in an army as a doctor or go to jail.

Even if most women couldnt pass the physical standards for the military in Ukraine, it would still be a huge influx of new troops to defend their country with. If youre fighting a country like Russia with a man like Putin at the helm, you cant afford to be sexist when choosing your defenders. Every building in Ukraine destroyed is one that could possibly be still standing if Zelenskyy would conscript women too. Imagine what he could do by doubling his army. Hes been getting arms from countries around the world, so he definitely has the equipment for them, and even if he didnt have the equipment right now, he could spend the time until they get it training new troops.

It's because propaganda isn't supposed to make sense. Everyone knows that Ukraine's position is neither credible or popular. If it was, then the Ukrainians wouldn't have to force civilian men to fight a war they didn't start under penalty of death. Anyone who points out this obvious hypocrisy gets shouted down, censored or otherwise silenced.

Remember, those people who shouted from the rooftops that all heterosexual men are evil, that their masculinity is toxic, that Chrstianity is bad...are the same people getting men fired from their jobs, blacklisted in their industries, and demonized socially...these are the same people telling men they should fight for Ukraine.

One reason "nobody" cares is the same old shit, men are expendable. The other reason is that NATO wants this conflict because finally they can destroy the Russian economy. If however anybody admitted that the Ukraine violated basic human rights, 1, nobody would be allowed to help them and 2, by extension they'd admit that every country that has any form of draft also violates basic human rights, and so does martial law.

I couldn't agree more. Every time I see the Ukranian "volunteers" mentioned in the media my level of indignation rises a little bit more. It's grossly unfair. Ideally nobody should be conscripted but if they are then men and women should be conscripted equally. Families with dependents should be allowed one competent adult to remain behind, gender unspecified, to care for the dependents.

When push comes to shove we are, and always have been, cannon fodder and meat for the war grinder, nothing more.

I don't think the Ukraine can hold out forever against Putins desires. Since NATO refused to help the Ukraine, I think the most sensible thing would have been for all Ukrainian citizens to be evacuated to bordering countries and force it to be a NATO problem, whilst negotiating with Putin to allow a peaceful exit in exchange for the Ukraine.

Forcing Ukrainian men to remain and fight is simply sacrificing men for no cultural benefit. Most of the fleeing women will be having future children with other cultures, so the men are dying to protect women and children and nothing else. They only have a Sophie's choice (fight and die or cower and starve), not a real choice.

I am calling it out. its surprising how many people especially women i speak to only get upset about it once i ask them to imagine if their country was invaded and they had to leave their husband behind to die. or if a single parent had to give his kids to strangers. or a mentally disabled man had to fight despite not understanding the situation.

all these things are happening there.

i try to tell them how most men probably would stay anyway, as some women have done, but that it should be a choice.

Ive also written to my MP but got no reply which is strange as normally i get one quickly.

The only perminant fix to this though is through school education that men are not disposable.

My guess is that it's not being talked about because people don't want to offend Ukrainian culture. Countries who bar women from military service or who would essentially turn women fighters away are seen as sexist and Ukraine is being touted as the global underdog. I can't say for sure but I imagine that if the Canadians got tired of having to say sorry and invaded the US, women wouldn't get a free pass

I think this is only happening bc of how dire the situation is there. I think at times as a leader you have to make decisions for the greater good even if it means sacrificing what you have right now. I know it sounds bleak, but thats because it is. The situation is literal life and death death is guaranteed and trauma is guaranteed. One results in Ukraine continuing to be a country and the other results in no more Ukraine. If i had to go fight in a war and knew i was facing imminent death but it meant that maybe down the line other guys like me wouldnt have to worry about it, then id say its worth it, and i think a lot of the men in battle would probably say the same.

Actually Ukraine has put out a draft for all "eligible" women. The difference is that all men aged 18 to 60 are not even allowed to leave, apparently even if ineligible.

The other disparity is that women are much less likely to be put into combat roles, instead being drafted onto the auxiliary positions like pilots, navigators, and nurses.

That said, woman are being drafted as well.

conscription =/= volunteering.

there are literally men volunteering. over 60K ukranian immigrants went back home to volunteer. as of right now 16K non-ukranian volunteers have integrated with ground forces.

don't get how/why you're mixing those two up. like, do you see articles talking about volunteers and just throw a fit that these are, in fact, the conscripts?

Society is a fine balance, a careful distribution of people of all kinds on all sides... In society we can live peacefully without extremes.

War is a tilt of that balance far from it center that the extremes comes back and we have to live more by the laws of nature than the laws of man.

I'm not against the idea that men should fight and the ones they love should flee. My own instinct is exactly that.

It's not equitable or even fair is it, it's war.
