It could be facial features that offset their other ones, like normal top and bottom third of the face, with a gigantic beak like nose. Maybe normal 2 upper thirds of face, but basically no chin or jawline. Or normal bottom hald of tue face with puppy eyes (for a guy), or bug eyes in general.

Physically it's being visibly overweight or REALLY skinny with a small frame.

Being short is also below average, like a 5'7" dude.

Personality, it would be someone annoying, someone pseudo intellectual, or just a dumb person that has a hard time catching humour.

Having little human interaction can also stunt you as a person.

The below average man and women are just people below average statistics of attractiveness. So the morbidly obese, people making at least 10 percent less than the median income for their age group, people who didn't finish at least high school etc.

It's impossible to tell because outside of bizarro TRP world, no one rates their fellow humans as below average / average / above average.

Every movement in the history of humandkind that has tried to "objectively" rate the value of humans has ended up being some kind of fascist or misanthropic circlejerk.

below average is anyone who looks ugly in some sense, average is neutral and below is ugly. the same extends to job and everything else. difference is that a womens earning is irrelevant and this would be more about skills and attributes people value in each other respectively

There’s two big issues with this.

We don’t have a good grasp on what average is, nor will you be able to apply that objectively. To stir the pot, are people of color in America considered Average? The only group in this country that has a majority is White Americans….
I don’t necessarily know if you can apply something like physical attractiveness, to a statistical measurement the way you can height, weight, income, etc because of issue one. It’s way too subjective.

Good looking, average, and below average, are different to different people in different contexts and different environments. People apply these labels when it suits them(overrate themselves to be average or above so) but not when it doesn’t. People stretch average to include themselves and others so to not feel bad.

How people would rank others in terms of attractiveness varies based on their tastes. For example some people might think tattoos are a plus while others think it's a negative, the same can go for clothing style, religion, political party, hobbies, taste in music...

Whether someone with the above ends up below average though is so dependent on the below: Poor social skills/rude or mean hearted. Unemployed/crappy work ethic

Below average for a woman is basically any fat woman. I'd say a good focal point would be 30 BMI or more. It rounds your face do your facial features are not as good looking. I know some women distribute weight better than others, but once you get to a certain threshold, it all looks bad.

Other than that, masculine facial features, strong jawline, are instantly putting them in the below average attractiveness (for me).

I believe that would be anyone less than a five.

I also consider a single mom to be below average because average to me would be someone without a kid. Same with someone thats obese or handicapped. I guess men with a bad prison record or a micro penis would also be below average too.

You are making the same mistake/assumption you are trying to avoid

you can stack statistics of average people together and slap on a generic statement about their dateability. However this fails at exhibiting what people actually believe gives someone an average level of dateability. My question is then, what do you believe makes a below average person?

Those statistics don't come from thin air.

I see this thread got 55 comments so far. If you tally the response you'll end up with a "stack [of] statistics" and "generic statements", none of which gives you the "actual" truth.

The absolute truth is that every individual considered a below-average person be someone that's just below them!

I've read an article a few years ago from a feminist (I'm a feminist myself) that scolded men for playing video games! I don't play video games as much as I feel one should, I might be the "perfect man" she was looking for, but I hated every bit of that article.

The author wasn't just assuming but demanding people to "step up" to things they might not want to. If I love playing video games 7 hours a day I know I'm "missing on other things", if I read 7 hours a day I know I'm "missing on other things", if I took care of kids 7 hours a day I know I'm "missing on other things"...

And if a woman (or man) isn't into that I know they aren't for me.

So if you ask women and men that dislike video games to describe their below-average, video games might get a mention.

If you ask people that are highly educated you'll get a different answer.

If you ask people that work low-wage labor you get a different answer.

Personally, I've never thought of this question! I've heard people talk about this, and as I've said above, they simply reflect their personal opinions as universal.

If I'm interested in you it's one thing. If I'm not interested in you you are below average DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF STICK IS USED. Hence it's kind of a pointless exercise.

Think about the super-wealthy. They aren't going out with the likes of you and me, so in their dating pool, they too have their measuring sticks to determine what their below averages are. (It's not about money, I know, but just to make a point)

Or take overweight people, what is a below-average man/woman for them

Basically me: small boobs but fat, flat muscular butt but fat, small hips but fat, wide chest and shoulders, fat arms, short legs, retains facial fat that makes me look 100lbs heavier than I am even when I am at my ideal BMI, looks like a boy with gynacomastia when at ideal BMI, face looks like a boy, eye bags, dark circles, big nose, back hump, visible veins, ugly, thinning hair, ugly mudd-colored green eyes that don't line up right, glasses, thin lips, ADHD, substance abuse issues, poor self esteem, unstable family growing up, never had a stable relationship, stupid, unathletic, untalented, little, unlikeable, unlovable, undateable. But on the positive side this person is usable and can be taken advantage of and then discarded like trash when you're done.

Life is bad enough even for average people. If you are below, you might as well be dead.
