I mean... You're talking about the western world and in many cases we are having to import immigrants from parts of the world that are more 'traditional' just to support our social systems (pretty much a pyramid scheme.. no contingencies for anything but indefinite growth).. so I think it's already started.. if those other countries start to become more westernized then we really hit the breaking point.

I think too many people are getting degrees these days anyway. Higher education has turned into a racket.

We’re turning out loads of specialist BS degrees. The humanities used to be about “education” with things like History, the Classics (it’s supposed to be training minds to express thoughts in an orderly manner), philosophy, languages, economics and even political theory. But now it’s been subsumed by various “studies” type thing. Stuff like “women’s studies” and “gender studies”. And things like “journalism”, which is actually better learned with on the job training. We’re now churning out way more people with such degrees than are needed. And not enough people with actual practical skill sets. Hence the tradie shortage.

So to be honest I think the ones who actually will stick with it are probably around in enough numbers to keep things going. It’s the ones who incur a debt and drop out that will be the losers.

But on a societal level aside from putting way too many resources into higher education (we’re not talking about research into physics or chemistry, or development of medicine here) the big issue is that feminists will look at the number of women getting degrees, and the number reaching the tops of these careers and see only “prejudice and discrimination” (against women of course). They’ll claim women are denied jobs (the opposite occurs actually) or that they’re denied promotions due to them being women. And demand MORE affirmative action, and use this as excuse to say there need to be even more women in university!

So yet more discrimination against men.

It’s only when this really starts showing up in STEM fields and medicine (and it’s coming) that there not be enough to keep it going. Scientists and engineers are not given sufficient regard by society, but when experienced people aren’t there, we’ll certainly know about it.

I’m not sure what you mean by “collapse”, but we are already seeing the downsides of discriminating in favor of females in education and work. For example:

Men are still the primary breadwinners. It’s economically inefficient to focus education efforts on the sex less likely to put their education to work. For example, we are now sending more women to both med school and law school, but they are more likely to call it quits after a few years to have and raise kids. Similarly, we advantage women in job hiring and business ownership.
Related’ It’s impacted marriage and dating. Women overall still want to marry up and be provided for at least in part. As we focus more on women, this is harder to achieve. There are many articles showing how women feel more frustrated than ever that they can’t find a good man (good provider). Just because more women go to med school doesn’t mean they want to marry and support a male nurse. Women still want to marry up, but it’s harder to do so.

We are flipping which sex we focus on advancing but work expectations, who provides and hypergamy haven’t equally flipped and that causes mismatches.

I think the male/female inequality is only a part of the bigger picture.

Every society that debased its currency ended up collapsing. We debased our currency in several ways: 1) fractional banking - the ability to lend out more than you hold in assets, 2) unpegging from a precious metal backing, 3) introduction of "debt" as a currency, 4) added inflation (Keynsian economics).

I recommend watching The Big Short, starring Steve Carell for a taste of what it looks like when just the housing market collapses. We have way bigger problems than just the housing market - the Options Market, for example, that is estimated to be 600x greater than all the assets in the world. When (not if) that collapses, everyone is in real trouble.

The central banks know this, and it is one reason behind the push to convert to a digital currency.

We are IN THE MIDDLE of the collapse right now. Your money is worth 8% less at the end of every year, but the cost of living goes UP by even more than that.

Add in the manufactured food shortages and energy crises (yes, plural) - the intentional bombing of the NordStream gas pipeline, the destruction of the oil/gas/coal industry with no reliable plan to make up the shortfall in energy production - we're all in for a tough time, coming to a theatre near you, soon.

I think the system has already collapsed but it isn't all felt immediately. When it starts to become popular opinion to have the government punish people for speech that's a monumental swing in the wrong direction. It's not just a bad law it's something that flies in the face of what is pretty agreed upon through history to be one of the most important principles for all that is good and just in humanity. The other disturbing development is the loss of belief in the sanctity of human life. Without the belief in the sanctity of human life basically anything can be justified and it already is with "abortions" and "assisted suicide". More and more minor inconveniences are becoming a reason to kill a human being. Social cohesion being eroded is another major part of the collapse, humans aren't going to be very successful in cold, lonely and distrustful isolation.

Regarding the college stuff, for STEM the overwhelming majority of the people doing significant and useful stuff there is still men. My favorite example is open source software. The tools to create open source software are freely downloadable (python, java, go, rust, C++, etc.), also free are the places to make it available (github, sourceforge, etc.). And yet the percentage of women creating open source software is microscopic. Likewise, Youtube tutorials for technical stuff are all done by men.

This collapse narrative depend works in an old idea that due to facing these issues your nation or empire becomes weak and invaders who are still patriarchal and thus strong invade and sweep your civilization away.

The problem is that we live in an age of nukes. And technology such as drones that renders alpha male soldier not so invincible and kills him dead.

Hence why for the West at least, I can't see a state where some patriarchal outsider ever being able to successfully invade and sweep everything before them into ruin.

Overall I think the trend you are identifying is concerning, but some of the details need to be compared in context. For example the fear of more women having student loans, and 40% of women leaving the work force force to be mothers or women working part time jobs: What % of women who are college graduates with student loan debt, also fit into the other two categories (working at a low potential or leaving work altogether) before repaying those loans?

I'm so glad I joined the military. I got all of my shit sorted out at 19, now I'm 25 with a full ride, a full time job, and permanent VA benefits/money. I can drop out of society wherever I want to and be ok as long as the entire system doesn't entirely collapse.

I feel bad for men in the struggle today paying out of pocket to attend college and work shit jobs, to be successful members of a system that hates them.

The system absolutely will not collapse. There will just be a period of about 30-50 (starting about 15 years ago) years or so of absolute misery, pain, suffering and mental anguish and suicide among the sexes. The mental anguish and percription medication use will fall almost entirely on women, but suicide for men will skyrocket to unseen levels as more and more men see no reason to go on living once their parents pass and they themselves have no family to speak of.

After a 30-50 years there will be a renaissance of unparalleled proportions of young people getting married, an enormous baby boom not unlike the great baby boom after the great war and a huge upsurge in overall happiness, love and family unity. These young people of the future are the children of children being born now . If you are in your 20s or 30s with kids, your grandchildren will be the ones to benefit from this renaissance.

Essentially once the bulk of todays militant feminists are dead or made socially irrelevant and all their devastating ideals have run their course and the young people of the future have first hand accounts of the devastation it has brought onto generations past they and society at large will have a deep yearning for a return to its roots and traditions. Maybe not quite as extreme as the 1950s, but family, children, cooperation between the sexes will be greatly championed.

Working a lot of hours for guys means they are less available to sustain a relationship, even a strictly sexual one involves personal investment. I think in general I agree there is a troubling pattern. I think it's super important though that men understand and do not forget the value of an education. A well rounded man is a man with a sharp mind and tech school or university shouldn't be ignored.

Two more inequality facts: at least since 2012, women own 60% of the wealth in the US, and this year it was reported by the NY Times that there are 12 million single women who own a home compared to 8 million single men who own a home.

Another dynamic to note - as of this year,the majority of births in the UK are by single women, after the US marked this tipping point in 2016.

I would let the system collapse. I am just boycotting marriage unless the traditional system (with traditional gender roles) is restored. It probably never will; just look at how modern movies and TV shows exclusively show masculinized women as cool as opposed to feminine, shy women from the past.

For the past many years, I have been trying to map out how to live as a lifelong single, setting a routine for myself and keeping myself busy to prevent physical and cognitive decline in old age.

I have very limited interaction with women; I stick to yes/no and formal, robotic responses whenever I have to talk to them. All of it comes to me naturally now. 😌

Well it's already happening with doctors that women are leaving the profession because they don't like the work life balance. So it's likely that employers will have to discreetly favour male candidates in order to have a successful business. In professions without a strict need for a degree (most professions), degree requirements will be reduced as hiring managers will reflect on their anecdotal data of people without degrees (more likely to be men) staying longer and showing more commitment. There will be more female managers as this can be done part time and remotely, but they will not be able to work as well as someone in the office full time. I would say that small businesses are the key to a business recovery and more of these are likely to have a male dominated workforce, but in many sectors over-regulation makes that a lot more difficult than it was 30 years ago.

Sadly as the # of women in higher education increases... society is decreasing the value of that education... men can still get 100K jobs and now without a degree. Get a few Google certs and you are off and running. Become a pipefitter/Welder... 100K the first year. Women won't do these jobs because they are hard and thankless and sometimes dangerous. ( I realize women do these jobs but its below 1%) So in the future women will have all the education AND all the debt that goes with it and men will still do whatever it takes to provide and make money. Wome are spending 250K on education to get jobs that pay 45K and thats just bad economics. It's not that men are not getting into these colleges.. they just realize that it is currently a bad investment.

In the Western world-

1) the high population of the Western world at present was due to the post WW2 baby boom. The boomers are now very old and therefore the population is decreasing through death. The population was always going to go down from there.

2)Thanks to contraception, and improvements in medicine, people are, on the whole, choosing to have far smaller families.

3) The reasons people had big families in the past were because of lack of contraception, but also extremely high child mortality. In order to ensure some children survived to adulthood, they had many children.

4) a sizeable proportion of the population has always not married or had children. It's just not well publicised.

5) the reduction in population is being offset by people choosing to work longer, or returning to work when children get older, or returning to work after retirement, or mechanisation, outsourcing work abroad, or immigration.

6) new educational and job market opportunities, and new ways of working, eg working, will be available to those who previously did not have access to them.

7) it is far more likely that democracy and civil society will be damaged through psychological warfare by hostile foreign and domestic actors. This is being waged by bot farms and manipulative tactics.
