I consider myself a mix. I actually DID work in sales and wasn’t one of the early cuts.

But I hated it and could barely meet quota.

I certainly talked a good game in the interviews though.

I have my moments where my social skills are FANTASTIC but it’s really hit or miss

And I think they’re deteriorating.

That’s why when I move back to my city I’m making a vow to get a beer three times a week and read a book

I know I’ll have a lot of conversations. But it takes the pressure off of thinking

I feel it’s a mixed bag. I think social skills in a sense are ‘weaponizing who you are uninhibited’ and you can lose that - by repressing yourself in too many situations.

I feel sales guys are also well equipped for women from my own sales experience, because it’s very draining and it feeds well into addictions/getting your rocks off

I don't buy the whole smooth talking/game thing due to my own experiences. In the few times I was successful with women, things happened very effortlessly and smoothly. I didn't have to sweet talk anyone, I didn't have to pretend I was someone I wasn't. When they're interested, women will signal it to you (unless they're outliers, like extremely shy good Christian types or high status women who are used to being pursued even by Chads).

This would be true in 2005. But in 2023, most women are using dating apps to choose who they want to talk to. They use filters to decide who is worthy of attention. Men with high charisma are tossed aside before saying a word if they aren’t tall enough or facially attractive enough to meet her standards. 95% of women will choose the 6’2” booger picker over the 5’5” best selling author because she chooses based on a picture and stats first.

I can do the smooth talking, but choose not to as I find the women that get drawn in to be idiots, I've met a whole other class of women that are resistant to it. They are the best women in my view.

Two issues with that. For one, every good saleaman will also tell you that appearance definitely does matter. It's not completely irrelevant just because you've got a golden tongue. Though i guess the average looking guy will be finde if he really can talk. Second thing is that, well... the way i see it, you can't learn this shit. You can refine your skills, sure, but you gotta have an apptitude for it to begin with. Someone born with the charisma of a plank of wood will die with the charisma of a plank of wood. So the actual usefullness of realizing that charisma matters 100% will be slim to none for a lot of guys.

Having high social status and a lot of charisma is more attractive/valuable to (many) women than a man being good looking, even model level. However you're talking about an extreme right of a bell curve in that case and most men are better off just doing what they can to generally improve their looks and social competence, most men have no shot at reaching that social ideal, it's irrelevant as TRP style self improvement advice.

It's more than being a smooth talker. It's how you portray yourself with confidence. I am really witty and a good talker when needed. Many consider myself attractive though I think Im decent. My downfall is Im so calm and relaxed is that I come off unconfident. Like they think im in a comatose state calm. At least faking confidence is the key.

The problem with trying to easily compare or quantify mating behavior is that if you want to try to do so, you have to be prepared for answers that go beyond simple math.

I am unsure who will have more dating success, your looks guy or your charisma guy. See even what 'success' would mean would be complicated. In some ways different female attraction criteria such as game or appearance are fungible and can compensate for one another. But in other ways they are not entirely interchangeable. For example, maybe the smooth talker gets more dates but on the top end the model guys gets the hottest girls.

You're on the right track, but it's not "smooth talker" that's the variable. That's just a piece of it and not the best way to describe what you're talking about.

When you get into the 5% (as you say), what you're really describing is what's called superficial charm, which is often associated with sociopaths.

Superficial charm is diabolical and I would argue a trait that almost inevitably leads to unethical behavior because it's just too fucking easy to manipulate people. And, only very savvy people who have been around catch on to it.

If you meet someone who truly has this characteristic, you won't even say to yourself, "He's charming." You'll simply like the person and it happens very fast in many cases within the first thirty seconds.

There are very few people who can do this. I'd put it at less than 5%. But, it's the quality that explains what you're talking about in your post. It's a good idea to be suspicious of a motherfucker who seems extremely likeable. You have to ask yourself, "What do you think this motherfucker's been doing his whole life when he can so easily make a favorable impression?" The answer is usually manipulating people.

You still need to match the threshold for physical attractiveness for the individual woman. After that, additional attractiveness has strongly diminishing returns and other traits take over for marginal benefits.

As every woman has different individual thesholds for attractiveness, based around their own attractiveness, you really cannot compare attractiveness vs social skills unless you define the level of women that count for sexual partners.

Will the first guy fuck a lot of 8/10 women? No. Will he absolutely fuck hordes of 4-6/10 women? Yes.
