The scheme supports traditionally under-represented groups, such as care-givers, those with children, those with no history of private education, and, in the case of engineering, women, to engage in graduate study at UCL.

Essentially, women get the cost of their degree covered (MSc in civil is £10,450 or £21,700 depending on fee status), and paid an additional £10,000 as a bursary by virtue of having a vagina.

Having spent time in an academic engineering environment in the city, it's pretty obvious (anecdotally amongst the staff, certainly not on paper) that female applicants have lower entrance requirements, and are consistently graded higher in their work because they are a minority.

Of course, this is covered as a bursary for underrepresented minorities. Never have I seen a bigger pussy pass in my life.
