I do agree with this actually. But for crimes and violence, that arguments usually based on arrest/prison data. But absolutely for things like women cannot be manipulative or it's not as bad as when a man does it.

Being pro-women does not necessarily mean you have to ignore inherently gendered behavior.

If I say women are less likely to be violent, it does not mean women are never violent. It means men have higher aggression (true), are more anti-social (true), and commit more violent crime than women do (true.)

So when I see headlines like some man allowed hundreds of other men to rape his wife for decades, to me that reads as male coded violent behavior.

But hey, I don’t believe in benevolent sexism anyway. I think men and women are just different, and that includes the scale and extremity to which “bad” behaviors are displayed.

I wanted to steer away from statements about the ratio to true feminist vs benevolent sexism in the main body because it's not my point. But if you want to discuss it; my opinion is that around 2/3 of the pro-women statements on reddit have this issue.

"Benevolent sexism" is a nonsensical concept. It's just a way of twisting female privilege to fit into the feminist narrative.

No other group is treated as superior because they're seen as inferior.

I think it's not that thought out, honestly. It's the stereotypes of the genders plus some real life experiences of them.

I teach middle school. I believe in sex differences and I invite anyone who doesn't to come shadow me for a week.

For me, that whole Louie CK joke about men fuck shit up and women are fucked up is like a daily occurrence.

If you tell me a boy vandalized the bathroom and hit someone, I basically believe you without any real doubt. I have to act as if I doubt it for fairness and justice and all, but in my heart yeah, that's what boys do. They just seem to wreck shit all the time.

But if you told me a boy was spreading nasty rumors about another boy that weren't true...I'd be skeptical. Not cuz they never do it, but...it's more likely he'd corner the other boy and try to beat the hell out of him. Is this benevolent sexism that I don't tend to think boys commit relational aggression generally?

Kind of the reverse for girls. Their bathroom is gross, but the sinks aren't getting broken off the walls and generally they aren't hitting anyone so much as excluding them or making up ugly rumors.

Is this benevolent sexism? I don't think so, it's just plain sexism honestly.

And I'm basically fine with this because it's just reality. It's not prescriptive, it's descriptive.

thats just the nature of reddit, they want to act covert about it but it was proven long ago that reddit is biased against men, just look at the gender bent posts on the AITAH sub, when the poster was a man the verdict was YTA, when the main poster was a woman the verdict always was NTA along with calling her husband/boyfriend an AH

I don't think this is well thought out. Also saying "I believe X" does not inherently mean that they believe some extreme version of "I believe X".

That's not what "a woman would never do something that cruel" means. It doesn't mean that "women are incapable of cruelty" or "all women are the caretaker". It's assigning moral virtue to women that you wouldn't assign to men; that women are generally more benevolent than men. It's a statement of female superiority. It's not the double-edged sword that you say it is. (Also, as a side point: I don't think there's anything cruel that a some woman wouldn't do it.)

No, you're making up the idea that "Women are the more mature gender" somehow means "women HAVE to be the more mature one. That's it's their duty/role". Again, it's a statement of female superiority and male inferiority.

If I said "a white person would never do something that cruel", "white people are more mature than other races", or "I'd believe a white person over a non-white person in these situations", it's not some underhanded attack on white people. It'd be a statement of white supremacy - i.e. that other races are inherently inferior. You can't twist it around into "these statements are actually saying that white people are inferior in some way".

That depends on a context, but yes, there are sick and cruel women. It's just that way more likely it was man.

Kind of comes with socialization, yes. Also with responsibility for kids which many men lack. That is generalization, and that doesn't mean that every woman is more mature than every man, but so is "women are just as capable of stem work as men", because not all men and women.

True, there are manipulative women. But right now the situation is that it's overwhelmingly more likely that she tells the truth than she manipulates. When social dynamic will shift that will stop being the truth.

Being held to a higher standard of virtuousness is not discrimination, it's a compliment, because it implies you are capable or rising to occasion. Seems like that to me anyway.
