Maybe our other veterans who went to a mixed gender basic training can chime in.

There's a funny thing about Basic, although I speak strictly from the US Army perspective. The guys who have natural ability do well, the ones who don't really struggle.

The girls on the other hand tend to be highly trainable. They generally don't come in with the same natural aptitude but they show a lot more improvement over the 10w or whatever it is now. Kinda like that bell curve.

The guys who struggle will still struggle after, and the guys who are naturals will still be naturals. If everyone is going to basic, it's not going to really help any of them in the larger scheme of things.

Women are naturally more social, conventional, and "pack followers"...so this naturally translates to them to being less likely to be "weird" and "underdeveloped" or whatever - they genuinely have more opportunities (social interactions) to correct any personality defects blooming.

I live in Russia. Here you have to serve in the army (but many dudes avoid that responsibility) and all it makes you do is some physical exercise, some useless knowledge about various army stuff that you hardly will ever need, and tolerating dedovshchina.

Nope, a few countries I've lived in, in Asia have had mandatory military service and the dudes there are just as bad as Americans. Think guys are checking out because society has made life really hard and no amount of training will change that.

You are describing a forced duty draft (I have no idea what is the correct english term), and it already happens, and let me tell you, it is a bad idea.

Yes, army life may give you some self respect and motivation, however it as easily can give you hell and a pretty bad case of hatred for the human beings, women more than anything. There is a reason why the army avoids women as much as possible. You can see everyone's true nature in pressure, women included.

The year I lost in the army, me and others could have done so much more but we were stuck there. And now we are trained to kill a man from 300 m away. Are you sure you want those neckbeards around your city?

Let me put this clear to you, the army in the US are mostly known for their self respect and motivation mostly because of the people who voluntarily choose to be in the military. If you force everyone in, you are gambling a slight increase in self respect and motivation for time they could be using wisely to improve themselves or even not hating everyone and everything. And they are all trained to kill. Easily. Without remorse.

You are basically turning the US in Brazil.

If you do that. Some guys playing in their basement is the least of your problems.

Austria here. Here you get evaluated when you're about 16 and depending on the overall score you get you either serve in the Federal armed forces for six months, help in civilian services for 9 months or when your score is bad enough, you're free to do nothing.

It doesn't help or change anybody who goes through it. My friends who went through it all handled it by distancing themselves mentally and joking about it. Nobody takes it serious, none of my friends life was impacted in any way, none of them changed because of it. There's cases of guys who did take it serious and ended up having severe mental problems, even killing themselves. I don't know if it's just austria, maybe in other countries it does affect the people who go through it positively. Not here though.

Concerning women having basic training too, I support that. In Austria women can go through it voluntarily. I personally think that, for the sake of equality, women should have to have basic training too. I mean, I don't want to do it and most men don't want to either, but it doesn't get in my head why some feminists draw the line of equality there.

No, at this stage of life it's already "too late" and may make things worse. You'll just throw a bunch of beta men in a pit, it'll just be natural selection on steroid and push these beta men in their extrema even more.

We need masculinity in our son's life before and during puberty, not in the middle, not after. Surrounding men with other men is usually a good idea, but it has to be a lot earlier.

Where I’m from, all men have to serve the country for 2 years upon reaching the age of 18.

I must say, the difference amongst people do shine through. Also, while it may not help everyone, I have observed good changes in a fair number of people.

More blue-pilled and beta men seem to have understood how dynamics work when they’re stuck in a man-only environment for 2 years.

Overall I find the complaints about today's weak society kind of stupid. Yes people in the past had it hard and were tough but they were that way to survive. Not because it was ideal. So if you finally live in a comfortable society and have opportunities that many before didnt have, I find it really stupid to choose to make your life harder and unpleasant for the sake of.... ironically just your own ego, making you just the same as everyone else.

Those men who are "basement dwelling neckbeards" could choose to go into military service anytime they want to or undergo a basic training regiment, but they choose not to. I do not even know if it would necessarily "help" them. I am fairly certain that "basic training" is also used to filter out certain types of people who are unable to pass the fitness test.

I don’t think it would fix basement dwelling neckbeards but I think something like mandatory service (military or civilian) would go a long way towards unifying the American public.

On a social level, everyone will have served, perhaps seen true suffering, will have had a concrete example of true teamwork regardless of differences, and a common ideology of what it means to be an American.

On a personal level, everyone who served would have a certain common ground that they don’t have today. My dad only did a standard three year hitch in the Navy in the early 60s and didn’t get promoted to any level but even today at 76 he can define himself as a veteran and he can connect with current or former military men on a level non-veterans can’t.

Now when I was a kid I would never have thought this, I would have resented every single part of this. But I didn’t serve when I was young and 25 years later it’s one of the only decisions I truly regret.

The problem is that these guys are suffering mental problems, and the military has a shitty record with treating mental illness. Any organization that produces such shamefully high rates of suicide and mental illness really can't claim any moral high ground on how to live a healthy life. Exercise is great, teamwork is great, discipline is great, but men can find all of these things outside of organizations that drive men to violence and suicide.

Honestly dude, stay out of younger people's lives and don't try to help. You're going to fuck up people's lives if you actually believe that troubled people will benefit from, "beating self respect into them." That ain't worked out so well for our vets that committed suicide, has it?

Men still flirt and so the same shit in basic training. I was I'm OSUT for 19 weeks and males and even females would claim to be in relationships but would hardcore flirt with each other. Basic training doesn't really change a whole lot about a person.

Depends on what branch. Air Force BMT is supposedly easier PT wise compared to other branches, and a good chunk of it is sitting in a classroom as well, learning about the Air Force.

no. You know what? Women spent generations in a pathetic state, I'm happy to see men in this state. Finally, men can do what they want, they can play video games or not, they can build a career, or not, they can die for their country, or not etc etc. it's wonderful. Just because men are choosing to do things that you don't like or agree with doesn't mean that they need to be fixed. Just because men are choosing to do things that are not good for society, doesn't mean that they need to be fixed. Women have chosen to do a myriad of things that aren't good for society, yet it wasn't women that were fixed, it was society that was forced (through legislature) to compensate.

If you believe that basic training helps men be better men, then we have to send women to a place that helps them be better women. I don't know, maybe a place that teaches them how to behave like women, how to do feminine things etc etc. Maybe force them to take some cooking and cleaning classes or something, since I doubt that the average woman alive today can make a half decent omelette, much less cook a family meal 3-4 times a week.
