I'm convinced that this is almost completely a generational issue. People who are currently in their 20's, especially lower 20's will do almost anything to avoid feeling uncomfortable, more specifically, feel uncomfortable in social situations. Thus, they'll avoid any kind of, for lack of a better word, confrontation, if they can help it.

I'm a male in my late 30's, so people of my generation grew up and learned to socialize without nearly the connectivity that younger generations are used to. As teenagers, the internet was in its infancy. There was no social media, no smartphones, and no texting. People having email addresses was even uncommon. Most of us didn't even have cellphones until we were almost fully adults. So, when we wanted to ask a girl out, you had to actually ask her to her face, or at least talk to them live over the phone. Conversely, if/when the girl turned you down, she had to look you in the eye to do it. When you got turned down, it was socially uncomfortable for everyone involved, but it was how dating had always worked, so everyone was just used to it. You didn't just give your number out unless you were genuinely interested, because if you gave it to someone you weren't interested in, somewhere down the line, you'd have to deal with the awkwardness of having to deal with that person in the future. It meant that exchanging phone numbers was a much bigger social investment because there would have to be some kind of confrontation later on.

These days, social media and electronic connectivity has transformed how open people are to others having ways to contact them. They give out their numbers, emails, snapchats, instagrams, etc., without a second thought because there are almost no repercussions to it. A lot of times I've noticed, they don't even remember they gave it out or who they gave it out to. Technology has made it such that, if they're not interested in communicating with somebody, they just don't reply, or in the worst cases, block that person. People who are older do things like that much less because they were conditioned as adolescents to be able to handle these uncomfortable confrontations.

In addition, younger generations are preoccupied with other peoples opinions of them. Even the opinions of complete anonymous strangers. They're desperate to gain friends, followers, likes, etc., so they post pictures of every place they go, every meal they eat, everything they buy, etc. that they think people will "like". That form of social programming bleeds out into their off-line lives as well. Saying no or declining an invitation, risks them feeling uncomfortable or having someone not like them. They don't really want to be your friend/date/whatever, but they don't want to actually have to say that, because saying that makes them seem mean or unsociable, so it's easier to just ignore that text or not respond to that message. That way, they are innocent of any perceived responsibility. What's worse, is if the ignored party calls them out on their disrespectful behavior, they're branded as the bad guy.

IMO, it's a very disturbing trend. You would almost never blatantly ignore someone else to their face. But for whatever reason, it's become socially ok to do that through your phone.

Women in their 20s are at their peak demand. They likely have way more options than women in their 30s. You can afford to do things like not even respond to someone when you have other options to rely on.

maturity - people in their 20s often haven't been real "adults" for very long. being in the workplace and surrounded by similarly serious people for many years makes you a more considerate, responsive, responsible communicator. there's a huge difference between college kids and recent grads.
generational tech differences - people in their 20s grew up with texting and instant messaging as the norm whereas people in their 30s and 40s grew up with calling as the norm. hell, people in their 20s now were (humorously) afraid to answer the landline because they were so used to just messaging instead of using actual voices. the psychology of messaging is "respond when i want, if i feel like it" whereas the psychology of a call is "answer now." late 90s babies invented ghosting so are you really surprised?

what you've observed in communicating with women from 20s-30s-40s you will find similarly in men of the same age ranges. my older friends say i have horrible texting etiquette (sometimes i take days to respond whereas they respond within the hour usually) but my peers and younger friends act the exact same way.

I am older and I would not prioritise someone thats just a casual acquaintance. If you aren't a dating prospect or a close friend or family you won't get instant replies from me. I wont leave work to check messages or get back to you and I won't be making plans with you unless its something I was planning on anyway like a hobby or activity.

I don't see this as 20 somethings being less mature or stuck up or whatever. I am sure some women are too busy instagramming lunch to get back to you, but MOST WOMEN are participating in life, college, work, family, friends, a relationship, and are too busy to make small talk with some random that isn't trying to get more than a quick thrill. Women that are older will have more free time ( college is usually over, career settled into a comfortable routine, friends and family busier with their own lives/ relationships/ kids)

Goddamn. I really hate when men think they are entitled to your undivided attention whenever they want but make no effort to be in your life. It really sums up 2019. How dare a woman ignore a man that doesn't want to be a part of their life amiright?

I'm a guy and I have done this with friends who get pushy when I decline their invitations. I got tired of explaining why I didn't want to go, and arguing with them when my reason wasn't good enough, so I would just not respond.

That's probably not what's going on with you, but maybe those young girls have run into enough guys who've done that, and just assume you might do that too.

You have things wrong. The women in their 20s are being normal. The women in their 30 are being artificially polite.

You're just some dude. You're not dating them, you're not doing stuff for them, you're not their boss or a work connection. You're some guy they know. Being too friendly would give most guys the wrong idea. You wanting to be a close friend with girls is weird to begin with.

The 20s women are treating you normally. You're just some dude sending texts. They respond when they see it if they have nothing better to do but otherwise forget about you. That's normal based on your place in their life and what you bring to the table.

Politeness beyond that is above and beyond what's normal.

Maturity. Men who are in their 30's and 40's are also more sensitive to women's needs and more chivalrous. This isn't a gender thing, it's called growing up and being a good human being.

Once you have a full time job and take responsibility for yourself, you also learn to treat others well. Most likely your 20's women are self-absorbed in college or working some entry-level job that doesn't require a whole lot of complex human skills.

I've noticed this too. The most high maintenance older woman I've ever gone out with was a 31 year old who was active on all social media and was in her 20's until recently so I get the feeling that's probably a part of it.

It's super easy for an under 30 woman who came of age in the social media generation to believe she's hot shit. There's no shortage of "models" who do very little or even no actual modeling but have a few hundred to a thousand Instagram followers and think they're hot shit. They also don't really value an individual dudes time, unless he's absurdly high value, simply because they could get four more dudes with a couple of swipes. Someone who was already a working adult when that dynamic became the norm doesn't really have those expectations.

I'm of the opinion it's better for a younger man to date older, but the young women now won't turn any better when they're older.

The human brain isn’t fully emotionally mature until around 25. Things like consequences, empathy and humility are still being learned.
The 20s in America are now an extended adolescence. 20 somethings are rewarded for acting like self absorbed twits seeking constant instant gratification and validation, especially women.
your generation was raised to believe you’re special for existing and to believe everyone and everything was put on this earth to serve your needs. You're also being manipulated by the grievance industry and politicians on both sides that having to live in a world where people do and say things you don’t like is unjust.

Women will mature and become better people in their 30s. So will men. Your choices as a young man are to wait it out or look for women who are more mature but might not be the most exciting or attractive. Reverse is also true.

It could be social media addiction affecting the younger generation. A 20 year old woman on instagram and snapchat has hundreds of messages from men per week. A 30 year old may not have grown up loving social media, or may be over it, or concerned about her biological clock, so shes subconsciously more friendly to younger men.

I have the opposite experience, as a 36 year old man. Women in their 20s are nice and fun to be around. Women in their 30s talk down to me and shame me for not wanting to get married or buy a home. I stopped talking to most of my female friends my age for this reason. Theyre experiencing “where are all the good men at “ syndrome and I represent part of the problem to them.

Funny thing I have noticed: really attractive girls in their late teens and early 20s are really nice to an older guy like me, less attractive ones not so much, especially overweight girls just scowl at me, while their attractive friend puts up a big warm smile and maintain eye contact for a bit, they also respond really well to me being a bit goofy and flirtatious, getting all girly giggly and blushing and seemingly enjoying the attention, while ugly girls that age just act cold or rude.

Women in their 30s are beginning to understand the definition of "lack of demand", as they past the wall, finally maturing enough to understand the concept.

Some women may say otherwise, but they know their chances of a life long (or any relationships) diminishes absurdly as their age goes on. So they begin to understand the concept of humbleness and treating men well too. They may even start to correctly empathize with men too.

The wall. It happens around 28-32. Correlates with high fertility I believe. Women in their early 20's have men 18-65 years old coming after them. As women age, that gap closes. I usually have FWBs that are 10-20 years older than me. It is what it is.

There is a very simple explanation for this. Women's SMV in their 20's is far higher than it is in their 30's, when they are clearly past their prime and can no longer afford to have a I'm-the-shit attitude. 20's is their peak SMV on the other hand. As long as you are a 6 and above, life should be pretty sweet to you attention-wise. And naturally, when you have options, you are not going to be on your best behavior.

I think almost every guy will attest to women in their 30s treating them better than women in their 20's.
