I like to be monogamous. I like my partner and the relationship we are in. I don't want to betray her trust so I see no reason to cheat..

I want to stay in the same LTR until I die. It is a personal goal for me. Cheating would be counter productive

Edit: about the needyness and oneitis. I make sure that my partner can't ever get anyone better than me. Staying with me is the best option she has in life. Even if I become needy and make her the center piece of my life I can avoid the negative consequences because I planned around them.

There are only two ways to do this, your either a liar and a cheat in which case your LTR probably isn't going to be very long term at all, and generally makes you look weak - a man with no self control flip flopping his word is a child.

Or you have a open relationship and it's gonna be pretty hard to keep that one way only but pretty doable for a few months maybe.

Overall, there's not really a LTR here - it's just 'pretending' to have a LTR to keep a woman around, it will fall off like any other plate because your still trying to spin.

Edit; only way I've seen this last long term and I mean through marriage etc is both sides open Poly relationship - and only the primaries are the real long term ones everyone else coming in is temporary.

If you don't communicate your standards, expectations, and even desires at the beginning of/before a commitment and also ask to know your partner's, then you and the other person are operating under invisible terms and boundaries. If you want to have sex with other people while in a supposed ltr then you either make sure you aren't violating previously stated conditions or sink to being a liar and cheater. If you want to be "allowed" to cheat while assuming your partner wouldn't be okay with it, and do so by not making your standards/desires clear, then you're engaging in manipulative behavior. If you "know" someone won't be okay with something and don't even want to bother asking, save them the pain and leave. Commit to someone who is willing to accept your terms. And if someone initially agrees to them but later finds that they couldn't handle something like that as well as they thought, don't try and make it work. Just move on.

However, I have heard it somewhat differently. TRP does not tell you to commit adultery, but it rather opens your eyes and tells you that cheating is something you should be prepared for at any time, because a woman's mind is able to rationalize even the most devious thought. Even if you have been together and she is the love of your life for the last 20 years, she can cheat you the next day. When you internalize this hard-to-swallow pill, then having yourself several options open, even if within LTR, seems like the most sensible think to do.

If you wanna cheat, sure, but I do not see anywhere they saying to fuck women while in a LTR as a long term planned behavior.

I personally saw a different aspect of the advice. It to me said "always have some women as backup plan in case the relationship ends bad" if put how chik books call it. And I find this quite the good advice.

Most LTR end up in breakup, so it is quite a good strategy. Sure, no kissing or sex, but have someone as backup is the basic of basics where I come from.

In a list with nine (9) points on how to avoid oneitis point eight is about “gaming other women” and “random person on the internets” opinion is that if you can sleep with the women you interact with, you should.

That is mildly different from what you postulate.

The list is fairly well known for what it is, but his interpretation of point eight is a bit extreme. A less extreme would be “flirt/interact with other women to avoid pedestalisation of LTR” or something like that.

Personal opinion: Cheating/lying bad. If you want to sleep around outside LTR, be honest about it.

Define Long Term.

I think you don't decide explicitly to enter a long term relationship. You make small concessions to deepen the relationship, and if it lasts long enough and is deep enough, you just happen to be in a LTR.

The expectation of monogamy is one of those concessions. RP advice is that if you have multiple partners, and don't wait a reasonable time, you're at risk of making that concession under oneitis.

On the other hand, if you let a relationship to deep enough, you probably won't have the time/energy required for 'plate spinning'. So monogamy might not be a big sacrifice.

I'm polyamorous, so I would want to be seeing other people if I were in a LTR, but ONLY if my partner was okay with it. And I would be fine with my partner doing the same. It really depends on the person and how their partner feels, if your partner wants to commit to a monogamous relationship, it is not okay to see other people and it is ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY to cheat, whether you're in a monogamous or polyam relationship. Sounds alright yeah, quite a good balance. One thing I like about having a relationship is that I have more time to do other stuff than chase tail. You will need to be quite firm about not spending that much time with her though, as you'll probably find that is the first thing she tries to encroach on.
