Typically women want a male who is taller than they are(for whatever reason), some women want really tall men because it is associated with status. Having a tall male with them is like having a designer bag or a nice piece of jewelry.

Women like tall men. The absolute minimum requirement is to at least be a little bit taller than her. Being taller than other men is highly desirable but not mandatory.

I'm just shy of 5'8" (172cm) and I've women as short as 5'0" tell me on dating sites that they're put off me because they like to wear heels and I'm too short for them.

Another thing I've noticed is the amount of "it's biological/women like to feel protected" replies. Playing Devil's Advocate here: I wonder what the replies would be if they were from men stating "it's biological" in regards to a preference for women who aren't obese.

I like when a guy is tall enough to totally envelope me in a hug. Like his chin rests comfortably on my head. I find the tall gangly look very attractive.

I’ve been attracted to guys that 5’6, 5’7. They’re not my ideal but height is only one aspect. I don’t think I could be attracted to a guy shorter than me though. Would make me feel beastly.

6'3 ALPHA CHAD here and let me tell you my experience. Nearly ALL women want a guy taller than them. Women like to feel protected, dainty, feminine, wear heels, etc and they can't do this if a guy is same height or say 1-2 inches taller. I will also say SOME women (a decent amount, but definitely a minority) view height as a green light where they just go wild for tall guys. They rationalize this by saying they themselves are tall when they are really like 5'7, or some other BS. These women are more difficult to court if you dont meet that threshold. Then there are TALL women (5'9+) who for obvious reasons prefer a 6 footer. These women also make up the minority of the population. Getting with them as a short guy is pretty rare but you probably arent into it anyways.

So the MAJORITY of women are in play if you arent tall. Having an attractive face, being fit, dressing well, having a good personality all will kick heights ass if height brings nothing to the table. It's like the quote about hard work beating talent when talent doesnt work hard. There are a lot of tall guys but most are just lurches or slobs like anyone else.

Women are terrible judges of height. It's like asking a woman how much weight she can lift. She has no concept of the question. 50 pounds or 300 pounds is the same to her. A 5'5 girl wont tell the difference between 5'10 or 6'1. Both are taller than her. I will add that being tall and dating 5'3 or shorter girls is a ton of fun. As said above, women like to feel dainty. They also love to be dominated (in the bedroom). Strong tall guys can do this to short women in ways that short men simply cant.

I am a tall woman, (5’9), and I wear large heels, etc, almost every day. (Model, not a stripper lmao.) I love to be as tall as possible, and in turn I love short men. Like significantly shorter than myself. 5’6 or 5’7 is usually what I like best. I find shorter men to be more intelligent, kinder and more appreciative of me than tall men. Just my experience, of course it doesn’t mean all tall men are terrible. I just love short men more.

Can't speak for other women but I'd take a guy that is 5'5 any day over a guy that is 6'5. I don't like tall men. But then again, I'm 5'2.

"The perfect height" for me is about 5'8, decently taller than me but not "too tall." I agree with you that dating someone with a huge height difference is just physically difficult. I don't see the appeal with super tall men. It's 2018 I think the human species should be past the whole "fuck and breed with the biggest guy for protection."

This always strikes me the weirdest objection. My husband is 6’4” and I am 5’3”... he just leans over to kiss me. Bedroom stuff isn’t difficult at all. Also in crowds, I can stand directly in front of him and he can see over me. It’s a perfect set up.

Most women like tall men. But it's not a hard rule. Enough exceptions exist to prove that. Plus most men are on average taller than women, so it makes sense that you see that.

Consider it like men and boobs/ass. We like them, a lot. And will gravitate towards women with them. But plenty of flat chested/assed women still do fine.

(Ancedotal evidence being my 5'4 friend who looks like he got skipped by puberty is dating a 5'10 girl who is gorgeous)

I would say, most women prefer a man who is taller than they are. For example, my dad is short. He is 5'9 but my mom is only 5'1. He may be short, but the height difference between them in fairly large.

I'd prefer a man taller than me, but it's not a deal breaker or anything. And he doesn't need to be exceptionally taller than me. I'm 5'9 so there's not a lot of men exceptionally taller than me anyway.

A guy like two inches shorter than me or more would be kinda weird, just cause I feel like it'd make things more difficult.

I dated a guy who was 6’3 or 6’4. Awkward. I’m 5’7”. Lost my virginity to a guy who was slightly shorter, Nbd. More than 2 “ shorter or 6” taller would be out of my preferred range. Prince was 5’2” so outliers always exist.

Well, women prefer guys of equal height or taller than them. But I've noticed that there is a tolerable threshold for them. If you are ~10 cm shorter than her, she wouldn't mind. Most of the women I've dated have been taller than me, I actually didn't know height was that important until I joined Reddit. As I didn't care, they didn't care.

I don’t think that all women can be said to prefer extreme height, no. Most women want a man who’s at least a little taller than they are, but there are still exceptions. Height for men is like an hourglass figure for women. People who have them are certainly considered more attractive because of it, but it’s not the be all end all of a person’s desirability. Short men and curveless women can still find love and be sexy.

Anecdotally, tall women and short men do date, as well as people close to the same height. At least that’s what I see in my friend circles. My first LTR was with a guy much much taller than me (I’m 5’3”, he was 6’5”), but every guy I’ve dated since has been under 6’ and I can’t say it’s made much of a difference. Most of my girlfriends who are in LTRs are with guys close to their height, and in one case a guy who’s much shorter!

i think studies show that women tend to prefer men one head taller than them. i think women generally want to feel small in comparison to their dude. but its only general. i dont think it matters as much to a lot of people.

I have arguments and evidence posted all over my comment history talking about this.
For a quick rundown :

It is completely socially constructed, women don't naturally give a shit about height, women in our own societies don't all even give a shit, it's overall becoming less important, it contributes to prejudice overall.
