Do you think we’d have more average straight men pursuing alternative models of masculinity, and perhaps even gender roles if the boundaries of what is considered socially acceptable and attractive male behaviour weren’t as constrained by rigid female sexual preferences?

Gay men aren’t constrained by the female sexual/mating imperative, and despite facing the similar pressure to socially conform to masculine norms from the wider culture or what feminists would consider “The Patriarchy”, theres a wider gamut of acceptable male behaviour within the gay community. Plenty of gay men pursue different models of masculinity and gender roles, more so than the average straight man . I’ve even known a few traditionally masculine gay men who have admitted to switching from their dominant roles to submissive as their relationships matured, and then switched back to their previous roles for some unknown reason.. I wonder if straight men would be able to do the same if women had a wider tolerance for different expressions of masculinity which didn’t hinge on men fulfilling some utilitarian role in a relationship or their sexual/mating imperative?
