Idk why they keep insisting women can't tell the difference between 5'10 and 6'? If we can differentiate periwinkle from lavender, and eggshell from ivory, we can notice when something is 2 inches off lmao.
I know what a 6' guy is supposed to feel like compared to my height.
[–]XiekoFDS Newbie25 points26 points27 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Right?! If they were in a relationship with someone over 6' for awhile, especially if they were physical, they know EXACTLY what that height feels like hugging, cuddling, holding hands, making love, etc.

I am tall, and this in no way would work, bc I’m used to men lying about their height. And 5’10 is basically the height guys use at 5’8 😂😂, but I always know bc of their height relative to mine. 🙄😆

5’10”-5’11” means 5’8” because if they’re actually 5’10” they’ll have rounded up to six foot 🙄

Cross post from r/Tinder - I’m 6’ - ask me how many times I’ve met guys from OLD and it turns out they’re shorter than they say in their profile... it’s hard to gaslight a female, who is herself 6’. I remember multiple conversations of “i don’t believe you’re 6’” —> “wow, you really ARE 6’+!” I’ve even, unfortunately, dated men who spent the entire relationship telling me I wasn’t, in fact, as tall as I said I was, despite government identification telling them so. Also- it shouldn’t really matter that I’m 6’.
Edit: Why the fuck do they think any woman would fall for this? The only ones that let guys get away with this BS are already choosing to ignore other red flags (as I used to be a pickme, I’m also speaking from personal experience.)
I’m also happy to include another piece of the pie: the men who told me that they prefer I DON’T wear heels... even though I personally love how confident they make me feel & I stopped wearing uncomfortable shoes years ago- so the ones I do wear are comfortable, I’m not wearing them standing or walking for hours, and I still don’t give a fuck what men think when it comes to them. Can you imagine if men suddenly decided to get their pickme girls/wives to shave their heads because they were insecure about going bald, and then trying to gaslight the rest of society? (Might sound extreme, and yet... )

Lmaooo I'm 5'10" sis. I've had countless dates where the guy previously said he was 6' and once I finally meet him in person, he is obviously SHORTER than me! Like I can literally see the top of his head.
The most memorable one was a guy who claimed he was 6'4" and he said "aw, that's perfect, when we slow dance your head will be resting against my chest"
In my head I already knew it was BS because no fucking way his entire head and neck is 6 inches long. I was still a pickme in those days so went on the date anyways.
We meetup, and he is way shorter than me. Like waaaay shorter. His eyes were level with my boobs. If we slow danced, it would be his head resting on my chest.
I mean come on. I can imagine lying about 1 or 2 inches but OVER A WHOLE FUCKING FOOT? This motherfucker was like 5'2" at best and was still trying to convince me, a taller woman, that he was actually 6'4".
I literally said "oh I'm sorry, apparently I've lived my entire life being 7 feet tall and didn't realize" and laughed and walked away, leaving him standing there in the lobby of the restaurant. Then he sent me a long text message tirade complaining how I'm so horrible and shallow and how hard it is to date as a short man. Bitch, I don't care, pretty sure it's hard for you to date because you're a delusional liar.
[–][deleted] 31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]EclecticBarbarellaFDS Disciple27 points28 points29 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Oh thank god it isn’t just me. I’m 5’9” and the number of “six foot” men that have showed up shorter than me is insane. Even had one double down and start trying to convince me I must be shorter than I thought (like I don’t know my own height) because he was definitely six foot tall. I sometimes feel like I’m taking crazy pills.
[–]myousernameRuthless Strategist14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
That's the whole point of gaslighting, to make you doubt yourself and feel crazy when it's actually him who is a liar.

No, we don't. It's not that hard to estimate someone else's height.

Well it's hard if he lies! What did he expect I dont understand this the tinder sub has stories of women lying about their weight while we have stories of men lying about their height. Both sides are stupid. What do you never plan to see them in person? Fudging and inch or 2 or maybe 20 pounds ehh grey area but being like I'm 180 when you are 280 or 6'4 when you 5'4 its nuts people NUTS.
[–]HhjjuuyFDS Apprentice36 points37 points38 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I'm only 5'6 and still have men telling me I don't know how tall I am or will insist they are 2 inches taller as we stand eye to eye.
The hair thing already happens as well! Not quite so extreme as a shaved head but older women are heavily discouraged from having long hair. It usually starts after we have our first child, it seems innocent to cut our hair and reduce the hassle, stop the baby pulling it, help it appear thicker after PP hair loss.. but eventually it turns into blatant statements from petty balding husbands as we age. I've always been somewhat aware of this but came across a thread on Twitter recently of a woman who had grown her hair to her waist in direct defiance of the shit her ex-husband had drilled into her head while they were together. So many more women replied with similar stories it really affected me.
Also if someone is going round saying she only dates men who are 6' she damn well already knows what the difference between 5'9 and 6' looks like. And nobody looks better in heels than a tall woman.
[–]cupittycakesFDS Newbie35 points36 points37 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This reminds me a little of 2 children I use to babysit... Ages 7, the little girl was taller by ~2"
They were comparing heights one day, little boy just KNEW he was taller than her and telling her she was wrong.
The even stood close to compare heights and he kept raising his hand higher than his head/height to "show" her how he was taller
His mother and I were standing there watching them and laughing but finally told him to stop gaslighting her, he was the shorter one
She was a single mom and no baby daddy in sight... So he didn't learn that gaslighting sh*t from a man...
It's like it's just natural to them...
(He is a very nice young man today but your story of how guys try to convince you that you're not the height you are, brought back this memory!)

It’s crazy how many men have attempted to control my changing hairstyles “you looked great as a blonde” “I don’t like pixie haircuts” blah blah blah... then why did you start dating me when I’m this or that? It’s hilarious when they see me change my hair seasonally (if I stick around long enough for that)-but I’ll never let a man control any part of how I look. I’m not here to train you or change You and I won’t stay to let you attempt to change anything about me.

Do it next time. If they lied about that - what else are they lying about or will in the future? What possible positive can you garner from a man who lies or rounds up when it comes to their height? I’ve dated men of varying heights & at the end of the day, it comes down to confidence. It doesn’t matter how tall or how short they are, if their confidence is low, they will take it out on you- or you will bear the emotional baggage that comes with that. Do yourself a favor and don’t let them waste your time.
[–]NoThisIs-PatrickFDS Disciple9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, how dumb do they think we are? I'm short myself, and I've only dated one short man. All the other guys I've dated were 6 feet or taller - I fucking know what 6 feet looks like.
Luckily, if you're OLD and you can see a full body pic of the guy, you can generally tell from his legs how tall he is irl. Some guys have longer torsos and yadda yadda whatever, but it's pretty easy to tell when they're lying lmao

I am 5'10 and guys are constantly telling me they are 6 foot PLUS. If I go on a first date and they turn out to be lying, which they often are, I simply pretend I am in the wrong place and walk off in the opposite direction. I walked into a cafe once (back in my pickmesha days) and saw this tiny dude sat behind a table, vaguely resembling the pictures I saw of him on bumble. Even sat down, you could tell he was miniature. Like literally child sized. I imagine his tiny little legs to not be touching the floor, when on his profile he said he was 5'11. I know because as I queued for my coffee, I checked his profile again, to make sure I wasn't insane. Anyway, I ordered my drink to take away and left, while smiling at him as I walked out.

I thought I was 5’8”-5’10 because guys literally commented on my height so often and told me how tall I was. I was in my 20’s when I got my driver’s licence and they actually measured my height, surprise surprise, I am 5’6”.
Dudes my height and shorter were telling me I must be 5’10” until I was measured and could confidently tell them, nope, 5’6”. And it wasn’t just the short ones inflating my height. Amazing how many guys will try to convince you they’re 6’ before you have a frame of reference.

[–]jackrusselterror1FDS Disciple6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
I have cousins who are 6’5, uncles and aunts at 6’0 or above, and my mom is the short one of her immediate family at 5’10. My father’s family is more on the average height side of the scale, but we’re still talking at least 5’10 for men, 5’7 as an average for the women, most being taller. I come from a family of giants- I figured out I was adopted mostly due to the height difference. I’m 5’2- I’m not necessarily looking for a guy a full foot taller than me, but I do know what tall looks like and I also don’t like liars, so I’m easily going to find out real quick when a guy lies about that. It’s the lack of confidence, the lying, and game playing that ends up being why I walk away when they don’t match up with what they said their height was.
[–]didumaketheteaFDS Newbie2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
For me it's the lie. Zero tolerance for lies. And it's a lie that can so easily be found out so if they have the opportunity to lie about something not easily found out later on to benefit themselves, they will. Cause they're liars.

Back when I still used the garbage dump that is OLD, I put my height in my profile. I did this so that weak manlets would pass on me if they were intimidated by my height. I have no problem with shorter men. I have a problem with liars though.
This LVM had his profile say he was 6’1 and when I walked into the restaurant to meet him, I instantly knew he wasn’t 6’1. My mother is 5’6 and I’m familiar enough with her height to know HE was 5’6. I felt awkward about confronting such a bold lie so I finished the dinner date with him. But later I made up an excuse about having to move away and I blocked him. Even in rejecting men I feel the need to be careful. He saw my car and who knows if he’s crazy enough to stalk and kill me.
In the future if I see someone lie right off the bat, I will RUN out of there and speed off in my car. There is no reason for him to lie like that. LOL as if I wouldn’t recognize 7 inches...

It’s not gaslighting. Please let’s not abuse a fucking important and serious term. What you see here is just plain scheming and lying
[–]ladydigitsmithFDS Newbie[S] 26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
“Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person or a group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment, often evoking in them cognitive dissonance and other changes including low self-esteem.” -Wikipedia
If this man is planning with at least two other men to try to make a woman think that his height is more than what it actually is in reality, then I don’t see that I’m misusing the term here.
I don’t disagree that it’s not ALSO scheming & lying, but I believe those go under the umbrella of the definition for this particular scenario.
[+]sisterofnarcissusFDS Newbie-17 points-16 points-15 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Nah, still, it’s blatant lying. Gaslighting is so much more. I have been gaslighted, this girl was or will be a victim of a lie, not gaslighting. Gaslighters want to warp your reality so that in the end YOU are the oppressor in your own eyes and the oppressor is the victim.
[–]Unable_CaterpillarFDS Disciple21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Getting his friends to consistently lie to you and lying to you is gaslighting. It’s making you doubt what you’re observing.
Abuse isn’t a competition. Yes it’s worse if a man hits you vs. him hitting a wall, but hitting a wall is still abuse. Often men start abuse very slowly.
I’m sorry you had to go through such extensive abuse but I think using the term this way is appropriate. Women should get out as soon as it starts.
[+][deleted] 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
[removed]
I think we’re all aware of being gaslighted, but if I were you I’d do some more research on the actual definition. You can’t define a word based on your personal experience- it’s not that specific. People are downvoting you because what you’re saying isn’t a correct definition, there is no debate.
