I circumcised my first son because I thought thats just what you did (we're American). The more I thought and read about it, I started to regret that decision and told my husband that if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't have him cut.

Our second son was born this week and we did not get him circumcised. I hope that when our boys are older the eldest doesn't compare himself to his brother and wonder why we chose to do that to him. I hope he understands I made a mistake and that I tried to do better with his brother.

I had a circumcision as an adult due to medical reasons; it sucked BIG TIME: Blood and weird fluids coming out of your penis, it get's almost spherical with inflammation, a generally embarrassing experience with all of the medical staff, stitches around the hole head that are horrifying to look at, amongst a bunch of other traumatizing stuff. I would have suffered and remembered nearly nothing of this at all had it been done when I was a child.

A lot of people know this: how much worse it is as an adult. Listen an listen carefully: IT IS NO JUSTIFICATION TO MUTILATE YOUR CHILD.

My case was not an ordinary one and I can confirm: being uncircumcised is far better than being circumcised, even with the problems I had that made the circumcision near obligatory, it was better. And more importantly: it was my choice to make.

"Medical reasons" or "medical concerns" are no justification (unless they're a life or death deal), if those end up being valid, the child must make those choices for himself. Thank you Dr. for convincing my mom not to do it, Godspeed.

I hate how some doctors PUSH this bs for no reason, my mom had to tell the doctor no 4-5 times because he kept on insisting he be allowed to circumsised me. So many of the arguments for circumsision are just absolute BS. It's not any "cleaner" to be cut, it's just as easy to clean when having a shower. It really is nothing more than infant mutilation that's just become "normal" and it's disgusting.

My mom uses the excuse that it's harder to keep my penis clean if I wasn't circumcised. That may be true, but telling youn children that it's just skin and its better to be cut is horrible. Circumcision is child abuse, it's traumatic, every time you try to use it, it's always there, reminding you that your parents thought it better to have part of their own child surgically cut off. Gentleman, please bear with me on this as I'm not taking sides but trying to learn. I'm circumcised (35 y/o). I can't think of an instance where it's impacted me negatively aside from the fact that I wasn't asked before my dick was cut. Of course, that alone is a big deal and I understand that fact. Since I've never possessed an uncircumcised unit I'll never truly know what I'm missing. However, I've been told about the supposed health benefits of it being cleaner and whatnot. It's also my understanding (possibly ill-informed) that women prefer a man who is "cut". Apparently it looks and feels better (I have no way of knowing). It has never been an issue during sex or masturbation- there is no pain or other issues I can think of. It looks and functions just as I believe it should. I never have to deal with smegma. To my knowledge it hasn't caused me any issues at all. I've always felt that it was plenty sensitive and can't imagine it being more sensitive. I'd never last a minute if it was. Can anyone enlighten me on the subject? Please? For the record I'm being 100% serious and am a bit ashamed that I have to approach this topic at such a late stage in my life.

When I had my son the nurses kept insisting on circumsising him, I said no at least seven times. They were shocked whenever I said no and asked them to stop asking. The nurses had even scheduled for his circumcision without our permission. The nurses really push parents to do this. I don't know if it's because the hospital makes more money charging the insurance company for the unnecessary procedure or what. Their reasoning was "it looks better, it's healthier, so he won't get infections, better against stds." I would respond, I have been uncut for 30 years and never had a problem, my dick is clean, healthy and beautiful. Do not touch my son's penis. My sister is about to have a baby and the nurses are pushing her to circumcision, she knows better. I told her that they will be pushy and insist.

Not to discredit you at all or act like your opinion doesn't matter because it absolutely does. But I do want to say, that as I am a circumcised man as well, I have absolutely none of the same experience you've had.

That makes me feel as if yours was very poorly done. Of course I don't know for sure, and I absolutely believe what you're going through and sympathize with you on it. I can only imagine feeling that way.

For me personally, I have none of the same issues you have with it. I have a decent amount of skin down there. There is slack even at full mast but absolutely no hood around the glans. I hope your treatments work out for you man! Those issues such as the discomfort and skin tightness, numbed glans, needing lube, difficulty masturbating, uneven scar etc aren't present for me.

I personally, am extremely thankful I was circumcised. However, if I had the same issues you seem to have, I would most likely feel the same way as you.

What do you say to the people who argue that making this decision for a child that can't consent isn't an issue because it is morally equivalent to something like religious indoctrination (or upbringing for a more neutral term), or that this logic at least leads down the road of suddenly looking at parents making decisions for their children in general as child abuse.

When my step dad's brother argued this, I felt kind of out of my element. He is a doctor himself and could also speak from a place of experience (although European, so uncommon but still legal). What's your opinion on this being like "forcing" a worldview upon your child? (My counter was that a worldview is not permanent, but I guess the childhood experience carries long term effects that can be seen as just as permanent as circumcision).

As much as I empathize, I have to argue it's taking it too far to say you should be able to sue for malpractice or consider this genital mutilation. It isn't strictly detrimental health wise. There's pros and cons, so it's a complicated decision.

For example, I wasn't circumcized and I had to get circumcized at 16 due to phimosis. It was extremely painful and it took me years to regain sensitivity. Despite this, after those couple years I now have completely normal sensitivity. I can climax just as easily and quick as before, and my orgasms are actually better but thats more a function of age. The point being that as someone who was able to have sexual experience before and after a circumcision, I didn't find it seriously detrimental. Not even slightly. Just needed time to recover.

To me, complications like phimosis justify considering having circumcision done at birth to avoid it having to be done later. Of course, if the operation is done poorly I don't doubt some people will have lasting effects that do damage their sex life. Which is why I didn't start this ramble saying everyone should get their kid circumcized. I stated it's a pro/con sort of deal. A parent has to decide if it's worth risking a botched operation to avoid the possibility of their kid having to have it done later. Which means also considering the chance of phimosis even occuring.

Tldr there's pros and cons to circumcision like avoiding phimosis, but with the risk of hurting your kids sexual sensitivity if the doctor fucks it up. Your parents are the only ones capable of weighing this decision when you're born. Its not mutilation if not done for religious reasons, it's just a difficult decision.

What? You must've had a real shitty circumcision, either that or I'm not actually circumsiced. I'm fairly sure I was circumsiced, but I never asked. My foreskin has some wiggle room, so sex isn't an issue, and there is no discernable scar.

Idk man, I don't think I would want to be uncircumcised. It looks weird and women tend to not like dick cheese. Lol ... some are fucked up because they never got it done. While it would be nice to choose it gets done at birth because at an older age it is almost impossible to recover from. I would say give fathers more input in if their sons get chopped or not I guess.

Seems like circumcision is also linked with culture. I am surprised by how many in the comment section advise the guy to undertake foreskin restoration when in my culture uncircumcised men are considered "female" and that they shouldn't associate with males.

Circumcision allows easier genital hygiene. Circumcised baby's have lower UTI İnfection and men have lower risk of STİs then men who aren't circumcised as well as decreased risk of penile cancer and less risk of cervical cancer with your (female) sex partner and more.... But oh oo they cut skin from me when i was child mehmeh and what the hell are you even talking about when saying "a fully functional penis"??? You obv haven't used it yet but let me tell you it works like any other non-circumcised penis.

I don't know if you know this, but when someone gives you a handjob, their hand is supposed to slide on your skin, not move your skin up and down. If that's what they think a handjob is, that's incorrect, it's also far less stimulating. Having your foreskin removed doesn't make you less in-tact, the amount of foreskin anyone has is variable to begin with so I cant say understand why you would feel that way. As for need lube, again you still would if you had foreskin. Foreskin doesn't magically make your partner wet. There is no replacement for foreplay.

What does being circumcised have to do with needing to use lube? If your partner is dry and is female, that's an issue with her sexual health or the type or amount of foreplay you all are engaging in--or not engaging in.. If your partner's are male, most gay couples whether cut or not use lube.
