Sir Christopher, MP for Christchurch in Dorset, said on Sunday he actually supported measures – proposed by Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse – to make upskirting illegal calling it “vulgar, humiliating and unacceptable”.

But the 71-year-old member claimed he had blocked the legislation on a point of principle. He said he does not agree with private member bills being brought before parliament on a Friday when there is not time for them to be fully debated.

If approved, such bills do still face Commons debate and scrutiny later in the process.

Reacting to a barrage of criticism – both online and from other MPs – Sir Christopher said: “I feel a bit sore about being scapegoated over this… The government is abusing parliamentary time for its own ends and, in a democracy, this is not acceptable.”

The reason he blocked it is so that it would have to be debated in parliament, otherwise it would have just been implemented with no questioning or debate whatsoever.

Since this is hitting /r/all, it is important to note for the people who have bad reading comprehension and keep reporting this: No one is arguing that upskirt photos should be legal.

There are two arguments here: one is that there should be generic laws rather than specific ones, the second is that there was a protest against someone who voiced an alternative opinion in an attempt to silence that opinion.

Te problem with this law is that the truth is we live in a "he said, she said, so then she's right" culture, and that's virtually certainly the guy's real objection to this.

He can't say it, as that in itself would be the certain ruin of him. (this in itself is also an indicator of the rampant misandry of the system), but he probably wants to defend the men who will inevitably suffer from it and be thrown to the wolves on the basis of pure allegation.

Noone endorses blokes going around sticking selfie sticks up hotties skirts (or whatever the method is), but we also know that any law Involving male/female conflict is just another new arena for men to suffer unjustly, and until that's straight many of us are not going to support you on this. It's not an automatic prison sentence.... just that it is illegal. You will be tried in fair court and receive a MAXIMUM of 2 years realistically I doubt any will serve that much. Or even near that much. 7. Women shouldn't care if someone takes photos of their private parts without consent because some women choose to wear little clothing outside anyways?
8. Even if he blocked the bill it does not deserve such a reaction. I do agree vandalism was not the correct nor a productive response but to be frank he did and asshole thing and so people were assholes to him. 9. Taking up skirt photos is not provable? Surely not in every occasion but in some most certainly and that is why court exists. 10. Women desiring men to not be allowed to take photos of their privates is one step away from it being illegal to take photos of women. 11.
