A lot of young women who tend to date older men say they are looking for someone mature; the problem is that almost all men who date younger women are not mature and are just manipulative predators.

Like it’s not inherently bad to have an age gap, it’s just that the older men who seek out younger women are creeps. A good man who falls for a younger woman is going to seriously hesitate if not avoid a relationship altogether bc he knows the age difference is potentially making the relationship more unequal.

Also important to note that your brain isn’t fully formed until 25 years old. This affects decision making and maturity which can be a bad dynamic in something like a romantic relationship involving an older man. I dated 24/25 year olds when I was newly 18-20 and one in particular would bring up the fact he knew I was much younger and ‘my brain wasn’t fully formed’ as a way to control and manipulate me. Not saying 18-24 year olds aren’t mature or capable of making good decisions but you’re more impressionable and biologically at a disadvantage, especially in conjunction with things like misogyny

I think people need to remember something too. As I've mentioned in previous posts, I literally had all the characteristic of a parentified child growing up. My parents were both very absent so I didn't have a choice. I have heard "YoU ArE mAtURe FoR YoUr AgE" or "YoU ArE An OlD SoUL" by coworkers, family and friends my whole life and I am legitimately mature. I also have seen how a lot of times I have thought differently than people my age because of my childhood. That being said though, I look at it as even if you legitimately are mature. How are you benefiting from dating someone way older than you? The only times I have seen the younger person benefit in an age gap relationship is if they are in it for the money.

Long time lurker here, but felt compelled to finally comment on this one. Most of my relationships have been age gap ones and they were all controlling and manipulative. One was emotionally and mentally abusive (22 year old me with a 32 year old guy).

I feel gross thinking about it, but even two years ago I dated a 48 year old man (as a 30 year old). He ended up stringing me along and then ghosted me even though we have several mutual friends. I was really upset at the time but found out later from a friend who had known him for a long time that he had very controlling behaviors, even with friends sometimes. His ex girlfriend was younger than me (mid 20s) so that should have been a red flag.

There are so many older men who feel they are entitled to be with younger women. I’ve had so many 40+ year olds hit on me. Recently, a single and divorced 41 year old male acquaintance (just know each other via mutual social interests) casually asked me if I thought he should date women under 25 years old or should stick with 25. I was rather horrified and immediately said dude, please date women your own age. Neither of those are options for you!

I dated a 50 year when I was 25 and in 2 weeks he told me that we were getting married all while complaining about how I looked and talking to me like a child. He wanted to use my credit to buy the row house that he was renting because he had filed bankruptcy and had bad credit. I had no guidance from my angry, mean mother so I didn’t know to steer clear of men like this. Please talk to your daughters , nieces, any younger woman that trusts you. Luckily , I dumped him after about a month because I knew what he was doing wrong but was still stupid enough to not know why it was wrong. Even now at my age , dating a 50+ year old men, they are just as bad to women who are close to their age

I've happily avoided older men my whole life. I'm 45 now and still not interested.

However...I have tended to date men who are significantly younger. I haven't found it particularly problematic (men who behave like they are 33...when they are 33...seem more entertaining than men who do the same at 53). Also, don't have kids, don't want kids, don't like divorced men. Younger men I have been with typically don't approach me as someone who can be manipulated or deceived so easily. They aren't surprised by my strong views on relationships and the world. And I certainly can't be bothered enough to deceive or manipulate them.

Am I just as bad as these scrotes who date younger women?

A 40 year old man who fixates on 20 year old women will still fixate on 20 year old women when you are 25 and he is 45. Meaning, you will ‘age out’ of his age fixation.

Unfortunately what happened to my friend. It didn't help that she was so unsure of herself. On one hand, she wanted a relationship with someone who she thought could pull her out of a toxic family. On the other hand, she didn't want to commit. She was okay just letting things happen as they did. No commitment on his or her part. So many red flags but she didn't care. She finally left when he reacted so horribly to a pregnancy scare. I understood where she was at because I was in a similar mindset in 2019. At least she knows now an older man doesn't mean more mature. He's in his 40s and unmarried for a reason.
