I just found out the guy I'm dating right now is pretty allergic to cats. (Thanks to discovering FDS, this will be something I screen for on first dates in the future.)

I love cats (and would never give one up for a man). My mom suggested my elderly cat probably wouldn't be an issue longterm if things get real serious with this guy. Then I could just not have cats in the future after my cat passes away.

You know what? Fuck that. Why should I have to give up having pet cats for the rest of my life? No man would ever be expected to give up something he loves to hang on to a girl. If this means staying single longer, then so be it.

(For the record, I'm channeling my inner FDS energy to have a conversation about this with my boyfriend in the near future. He can decide whether that's a dealbreaker for him or not.)

It’s like condoms don’t exist in conversations about birth control. I guess it circles back to reproductive responsibility being fully put on women. I won’t accept that personally

For me I had done a ton of research and realized that Mirena and Skyla are fantastic choices compared to the IUDs of our mother’s generation. Lower doses of hormones, lower risk of device failure, more effective in preventing pregnancy than a tubal litigation yet far more reversible, and 25% of women using mirena including me have their period reduced to spotting or nothing. I know less about non hormonal IUDs but from what I have seen they are also great options. It is truly the best decision I have made for my health ever, and I don’t even have sex with men that regularly.

For period management alone, it is amazing even if it were not also a fantastic birth control method. Because being debilitated for an entire week every month was just not viable for my life. I feel like my hormones are so much better regulated now than they were pre-IUD. I am amazed and often tell my female friends about the wonders, wish I would have learned slightly earlier about this option. Plus it gives me way more privacy about my birth control and cannot be interfered with like pills can by a disapproving family or abusive boyfriend.
