Sigh. There are ways for a family to offer love and acceptance without being enabling. Pay for her to see a therapist specializing in her form of trauma. Buy her a vibrator and attendance at a self-pleasure retreat or workshop. If she loves to dance and perform, pay for actual dance classes or training in some dance-oriented movement that will help her teach or perform. Objectification and pandering to the patriarchal gaze is NOT healing.

I can see that she is coping in the best way she has been able to find. But I think it's a maladaptive and dangerous coping mechanism, much the same as how I wanted to be choked and bruised to cope with how much I hated myself. Furthering sexual violence with more violence or self-exploitation won't fix or help with the wound. It will still be there, unacknowledged and festering until the self is treated with the kindness it deserves. I hope she finds a better way to healing and loving herself that doesn't involve sex and continual reentry into the place where that pain originated.

Bdsmers and "sex-positive" folks like to legitimize their beliefs by creating research and documenting "their community" and "culture." This way they can assert themselves as experts on sexuality and feminism. You don't understand sexuality until you get anal while tied to the rafters and beaten with a broom. You don't know feminism unless you are fully free to do the most humiliating sex acts that send you to the hospital.

I think the “logic” here is that it’s a way to reclaim their body from horrific and traumatic SA they’ve experienced by also getting money off men who as a group have previously taken advantage of them… but I agree it’s not something to glamourise or promote. Just because the industry exists and she gets paid doesn’t mean it isn’t actively harming other women by keeping the porn industry alive and well. I wonder if vulnerable women were supported more to choose other paths and almost went through more rehabilitation if you will, they’d choose differently and prevent further traumatising themselves
