I am in my mid-30s and have leveled up all that I can (doctorate degree, 6 fig job, volunteer, traveled the world, got incredibly fit, studied meditation and so on). But I am single and have always wanted children. My ex last year future faked me and constantly talked about having a baby with me. I never want to give a man that power. I am dating but the pool is terrible and I am trying to be extra thoughtful with who I spend my time with.

I don’t want to wait until I find a HVM to have a child because I might never meet one. I feel like I will be ready to have a child next year. My plan is to buy a house with enough space at the end of the year, then meet with doctors and fertility specialists to go over my options and hopefully have a child in my late 30s.

I haven’t shared my plans with anyone. But my mom seemed supportive when I mentioned I want a child more than I desire a husband and she would be happy to help me. I briefly brought up the topic with a couple of friends and they think I don’t understand the difficulties of single motherhood because I was raised in a 2 parent household. They also said that a child needs a father/male role model. I understand it will be hard but I have no doubt I can adapt and rise to the occasion. I also have resources.

So FDS ladies, I have read a lot of comments here about not needing a partner to have a child. Has anyone done this or thought about this?

ETA: for the record, I’m not bitter. But I was never a relationship oriented person, I didn’t even start dating until I was in my late 20s-30s. I guess I had higher expectations of eligible me. and don’t feel like the guys I’ve been with added anything to my life, in fact they cause me lose “my peace.” I just honestly want to raise children more than I desire a partner, I think I would be a thoughtful and present mother and have worked with children in the past. I do have dating/relationships options but I just am not enthusiastic about them. I have been a go getter all my life so I can’t imagine just waiting around in hopes that a HVM enters the picture so that I may then pursue my goals.
